The White Stripes have revealed the details of their forthcoming album. The Detroit duo have titled the record 'Icky Thump', and have just finished mixing and recording it at Nashville, Tennessee's Blackbird Studio. A release date for the follow up to 2005's 'Get Behind Me Satan' has not yet been set, but a posting on the band's website says: "We are doing our best (whatever that is) to release the album as soon as corporately possible. And though we are tired, worn, weary, hungry, cold and left without an ounce of nutrition amongst ourselves, we are in the midst of planning performance type shows around the world." The tracklisting includes: 'Catch Hell Blues' 'Little Cream Soda' 'Rag And Bone' 'Clicky Bump' 'You Don't Know What Love Is (Just Do As You're Told)' 'I'm Slowly Turning Into You' www.whitestripes.com/news/newsExtra.html

www.nme.com/news/the-white-stripes/26791Exclusive - NME.COM hears new White Stripes songs'Icky Thump' tracks previewed in LondonNME.COM has been given exclusive first preview of the new White Stripes album 'Icky Thump' today (March 2). Three song from the the follow-up to 2005's 'Get Behind Me Satan' were aired at a special playback at London's Soho Revue Bar. The duo recently recorded and mixed their new album at Nashville, Tennessee's Blackbird Studio. Here's NME.COM's verdict on the three tracks we heard: 'Icky Thump' Starts with Meg on pounding bass drums, then breaks into an experimental, heavy sounding 70s riff, that at points varies from a 'Black Math'-like rock sound to electronic sounding, processed sections. The vocals almost never repeat themselves as and there's little conventional structure. Jack's vocals are heavily treated in the production with one of the few clear lyrics in this mainly instrumental track, going, "Why don't you kick yourself out, you're an immigrant too". 'What Love Is' A more classic sounding White Stripes song recalling 'White Blood Cells'-era. It's a strong, melodic love song with Jack singing the following for the chorus: "You're not hopeless or helpless/I hate to sound cold/But you don't know what love is/You do as you're told". 'Conquest' The biggest departure of the three tracks previewed. It's an unexpected mix of big guitars and a bold horn section. Boasting a Spanish, Latin feel, it's a third person storytelling song about a serial womaniser, who finally meets his match. "Conquest, he was out to make a conquest" sings Jack. "She was just another conquest, but the hunted became the huntress". Generally the feel with these tracks, is the band are back to big sounding guitars, but allying that with some very experimental, almost electronic sections. Interestingly the three tracks were accompanied by an in the studio video of the duo recording the songs, and teasingly one section even feature a bagpipe player, though the instrument didn't appear on any of the tracks. The tracklisting for the album will also include: 'Catch Hell Blues' 'Little Cream Soda' 'Rag And Bone' 'Clicky Bump' 'You Don't Know What Love Is (Just Do As You're Told)' 'I'm Slowly Turning Into You' A date is still to be set for the album's release, but it is expected to be out in June.

Seems like they're keeping with the experiments that began on Get Behind Me Satan. Hopefully, those experiments will succeed better this time around.

But we are happy to say that it will include all 10 provincesand 3 territories of Canada, as well as the remaining 16 states of the United States the band have yet to play," they explained. "A few major markets that have been journeyed to in the past, will be also be included."
The statement added that "The north American tour will start in the state of Tennessee," referring to The White Stripes confirmed appearance at the Bonnaroo Festival which takes place between June 14-17.

Bagpipes, Trumpets Enliven New White Stripes CD March 26, 2007, 11:00 AM ET Katie Hasty, N.Y. Bagpipes and trumpet work from a previously unknown Latin musician are among the new sounds to be heard on the White Stripes' "Icky Thump," due in mid-June via Third Man/Warner Bros. The 13-track set was produced by frontman Jack White and follows 2005's "Get Behind Me Satan," which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200. "Icky Thump" runs the gamut from arena rock to blues to a spoken-word prayer to Saint Andrew. "Conquest" is set to a hot tango rhythm, featuring a trumpeter that White discovered playing on a sidewalk in South America. The song describes a reversal of roles in a relationship, where "the hunted became the huntress / the hunter became the prey / she with all her female guile / led him helpless down the aisle." Bagpipes and a rollicking Scottish dance structure are applied to "Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn," capped by the refrain of "lai-de-lai-de-li-oh." Drummer Meg White's voice can be heard a number of songs, including her banter with Jack on the playful "Rag and Bone" and on the aforementioned spoken-word track "St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air)." There is no piano on "Icky Thump" despite the instrument's significant presence on "Get Behind Me Satan," though several tracks are punctuated with synths and Wurlitzer. Cuts like "300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues" and "Catch Hell Blues," as suggested by their titles, are a return to the garage-blues that underscored the band's earlier records. As previously reported, the album was recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studio over the span of three weeks. According to the group's Web site, an upcoming tour "will include all 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada, as well as the remaining 16 states of the United States the band have yet to play. A few major markets that have been journeyed to in the past will also be included." www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003562800---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sounds like it's out June 12 in the US. Can't wait.

Jack White to Play Elvis PresleyThe White Stripes and The Raconteurs’ Jack White is reportedly in line to play Elvis in an upcoming comedy. IGN.com have reported the unusual casting choice will be appearing in a parody of recent musical bio-pics, with a current title of ‘Walk Hard’ The film will spoof recent films such as ‘Walk The Line’ and ‘Ray’, with John C Reilly (‘Gangs of New York’, ‘Talladega Nights’) starring as a Johnny Cash-esque fictional character called Dewey Cox. White has recently had small roles in 'Cold Mountain' and 'Coffee & Cigarettes', as well as being immortalised on ‘The Simpsons’.

Hey, if Arcade Fire can make a sketch cameo (which they did!), then the Stripes could probably carry a whole show.

The White Stripes Post New Information About New AlbumThe band posted a square wordsearch style puzzle on their official webiste whitestripes.com. Below the puzzle is a one line sentence following each of the tracks on 'Icky Thump'. With the 'Conquest' clue definitely coming from the song's lyric, there is wide speculation the list are snippets from the new songs. The post reads: 1. 'Icky Thump' - Well, you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too. 2. 'You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)' - In some respects I suspect you've got a respectable side. 3. '300 M.P.H Torrential Outpour Blues' - Sooner or later the ground's gonna be holding all of my ashes too. 4. 'Conquest' - The hunted became the huntress, the hunter became the prey. 5. 'Bone Broken' - They got a white pony in a stable and ride him when the doggie isn't able. 6. 'Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn' - The silver birches pierce through an icy fog which covers the ground most daily. 7. 'St. Andrew (This Battle Is In The Air)' - I'm looking upwards, who is here to greet me? 8. 'Little Cream Soda' - Well, every highway that I go down seems to be longer than the last one that I knew about, oh well. 9. 'Rag And Bone' - Bring out your junk and we'll give it a home. 10. 'I'm Slowly Turning Into You' - I dig your little laugh and I'm loving your quick wit. 11. 'A Martyr For My Love For You' - Maybe these ruby shoes are a little cumbersome for you. 12. 'Catch Hell Blues' - If you're looking for hot water, don't be shocked when you get burned a little bit. 13. 'Effect And Cause' - First you cause a train wreck, then you put me in traction?

^ Speaking of which... From mtv.comThe White Stripes have announced additional details about their upcoming Icky Thump album, due June 19. By now, you're already aware of the track list and the upcoming tour surrounding the disc, but did you know that the cover of Thump features a black-and-white photo of Jack and Meg White dressed as a Pearly King and Queen? For those not in the know — which is roughly 98 percent of you — Pearlies are Englishmen and women who dress in traditional cockney costumes, covered in mother-of-pearl beads. It's a manner of dress that dates all the way back to the late 19th century, when street merchants would sew pearls onto their clothing, and it only further expands the Stripes' growing Anglo obsession — the album's title is a play the Yorkshire slang term "by ecky thump," which is used to express surprise — though that doesn't make it any less confounding. Oh, and also, Thump will apparently feature a song, "I'm Slowly Turning Into You," which, as a Stripes press release tells us, "may be the first song ever written based on a video treatment ... this one is inspired by Michel Gondry."

Rare Jack White recording reissuedPre-White Stripes material back on shelves A rare recording featuring The White Stripes' frontman Jack White on guitar is to be reissued. The Hentchmen released three seven-inch singles which featured White - 'Hentch-Forth', 'Some Other Guy' and 'Ham And Oil' - all in 1998. A collection, 'Hentch-Forth.Five', is set to be released by Italy Records. The set contains an entire Hentchmen album, all the tracks from the singles plus an alternative take of the track 'Psycho Daisies'. The package was remastered by Detroit producer Dan Currie. The band (without White) are planning to play some US shows to coincide with the release. It is expected to come out in the US in the Summer, reports The Modern Age. The tracklisting is: 'Some Other Guy' 'Psycho Daisies' 'Yesterday's Trash' 'L.A.M.F' 'Automatic' 'Gawker Delay' 'Me And My Monotone' 'Big Screen Lover' 'Little No More' 'Carry Me Home' 'R&R Cancer' 'Ham And Oil' 'Club Wagon' 'Psycho Daisies' (alternate take)

NME hears the new White Stripes albumAnd here's the lowdown on 'Icky Thump'... NME has heard the eagerly awaited new album by The White Stripes - and below are our first impressions of the full album. 'Icky Thump', the follow-up to 2005's 'Get Behind Me Satan' , is released on June 18 - and here's a summary of the tracks. 'Icky Thump' A stomping psychedelic opening, Jack wails streams of consciousness over thumping Latin cousin of 'Ball And Biscuit'. 'You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told') A beautiful torch song pinned down by a desert thud, the verses recall Springsteen's 'Born To Run' before giving way to a classic Jack White melody. '300mph Torrential Outpour Blues' A low-slung, five minute lament that manages to sound both totally blues and totally Bowie. 'Conquest' Where the album gets properly playful, this cover of a Corky Robbins song tells a dark tale of sexual politics over a mentalist heavy metal mariachi brass band. 'Bone Broke' A clattering slow-burner that starts off resembling Queens Of The Stone Age's 'Little Sister' before giving way to more blues with a hair metal twist as Jack imagines life without the Coke millions. 'Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn' The next laugh-out-loud moment; a Scottish Highlanders' hoe-down, replete with bagpipes and yodelling. 'St Andrew' More bagpipes dominate this bizarre prog sequence as Meg recounts a prayer to the patron saint of Scotland. 'Little Cream Soda' More balls out rock as Jack screeches a song of nostalgia over a thrash metal cousin of 'Seven Nation Army'. 'Rag and Bone' The album's comic highlight, the song casts Jack and Meg as rag and bone collectors scrambling through neighbours yards for things to sell. Contains as much dialogue as actual singing. "I saw some stuff in the yard, do you think they'll give it to us?" "Oh Meg, don't be rude! They might still want it!" 'I'm Slowly Turning Into You' A twisted love song built around organ and T-Rex-ish guitar. 'A Martyr For My Love For You' As things draw to a close the songs slow down; this is 'My Doorbell' gone desert rock. 'Catch Hell Blues' A stark slide guitar blues workout with a psychedelic twist. 'Effect and Cause' A return to familiar Stripes ground, this finale recalls the nursery rhyme-like 'It's True That We Love One Another'. But heavier, naturally.
