Musical star Scarlett Johansson Mar 30, 2008, 12:00 GMTLord Andrew Lloyd Webber thinks Scarlett Johansson is "a natural star for musicals". The music composer - who is responsible for shows including 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'Cats' and 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' - met Scarlett to discuss the possibility of her appearing in the London theatre production of 'The Sound of Music'. He said: "We had a lunch together - I think she would have been brilliant. She certainly has the voice to do it. "It was a lunch that started off at 12.30pm and went on till after five because it was a lovely sunny day and we were performing various songs from musicals. She is terrific - a natural star for musicals." Andrew also revealed he recently had a hit song in the UK singles charts, but refused to reveal which one. He added: "I have had a chart hit that was not credited to me, yes - more recently than you might think. It went pretty much all of the way. I just love doing things that wrong-foot people." Scarlett can soon be heard debuting her vocal talents on her new album, 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'.

She's calling her debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head – and it looks like Scarlett Johansson is taking a literal approach to her album art. Due May 20, the album features covers of alternative troubadour Tom Waits's music, plus one original composition. Johansson was joined in the studio by David Bowie, who lends guest vocals on "Falling Down" and "Fannin Street." Produced by TV on the Radio's David Sitek, the album marks the actress's recording debut. And Sitek does double duty. A label rep confirms he snapped the cover photo, taken in Louisiana, where they recorded the disc. – Brian Orloff People Magazine

Ugh I hope they change the font... I'm sick of it. Tori & Sheryl did it already - and it doesn't really work with this photo I think

And why is there tree bark/rock/whatever-that-is in a circle around her?

So this is the final shape, etc. I don't like the tree thing around it, and the text could be lower. But it's ok. It's gonna be a low-key project anyway.

The single is horrible. She sings like she has a mouth full of bees.
But then so does Tom Waits...

Scarlett & Ryan Engaged
By Alexis Chiu Posted Monday May 05, 2008 02:15 PM EDT
After dating for more than a year, Scarlett Johansson is set to marry her boyfriend Ryan Reynolds, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.
"They're both thrilled," Johansson's rep Marcel Pariseau tells PEOPLE.
Reynolds, 31, currently filming the aptly named The Proposal in Boston with Sandra Bullock, recently popped the question to Johansson, 23. The couple have not set a wedding date.
The Nanny Diaries star is expected to show off her sparkler at Monday night's Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala in New York. Sources say Johansson is eager to "show off her rock" with her Dolce & Gabbana gown.

Newly engaged to Ryan Reynolds, a glowing Scarlett Johansson shows off a sparkling diamond ring while posing – in an ivory D&G dress – with designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala in New York City.

Billboard:
ARTIST: SCARLETT JOHANSSON
ADVERTISEMENT ALBUM: ANYWHERE I LAY MY HEAD
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Trapped inside Scarlett Johansson's porcelain skin is the voice of a canary -- in a coal mine. A worldly alto pops out of those pouty lips, making her decision to release an album of Tom Waits covers a bit less odd than it might at first seem. Johansson's pipes are surprisingly deep but don't approach the dirt gargle of Waits himself. But she's an actress, and his songs are some of the best monologues ever set to music. Cuts like "Falling Down" come off like a Cambridge girl doing karaoke at the campus bar. But others achieve poignancy: See "Fannin Street," intrepidly plucked from Waits' 2006 three-CD outtakes collection, or album closer "Who Are You," which doubles Johansson's voice with producer David Sitek's bass, hinting at a Waits duet of acceptance. The whole set is heavily dosed with reverb and electro-swirls, perhaps to cloak Johansson's vocal limitations as much as to add psychedelia.

The album is unbelievable. It's haunting, subtle yet all over the place and overall just enjoyable.
She's not the best singer - after hearing this, whether she can sing or not is still debatable. But it's beside the point. The vocals aren't the main focus at all. The songs are. The vocals aren't the life of the songs, they're their characters... and she does bring that much.

She can def sing -> Summertime??? Hello!
But she doesn't need to show her voice, because sometimes a song is better when you keep it simple...

Yes well Summertime was this one obscure recording and some people are still claiming it wasn't her lol. Until I hear her sing like that again, I'll put a question mark on that one.
And yes that's what I was saying. The vocal abilities are beside the point.
NME said it was one of the best 3 albums of the last 4 weeks.

Critics have slammed this album. It'll be interesting to see what it sells. The reviews are quite mixed, actually. NME gave it a glowing review; so has the Daily Mail, the Guardian & a couple of magazines. Most of the reviews I've read have been so-so - like Rolling Stone & Pitchfork. Then you have Times Online and Entertainment weekly who clearly don't know what they're talking about.

Costars Penélope Cruz (in Hervé L. Leroux) and Scarlett Johansson (in Monique Lhuillier) complement each other perfectly at the premiere of Vicky Cristina Barcelona Monday at the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif. "I love the color," Johansson told PEOPLE of her dress. "I just wanted to wear something summery . . . something that had a nice, old Hollywood feel."
