From mtv.com: The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From The Underground Lil Wayne is obviously a front-runner for best rapper alive, but is the New Orleans fireman going for the title of hip-hop's most unselfish MC? Last week in NYC, Weezy F. said he's not releasing his long-awaited Tha Carter, Vol. 3 anytime soon. He's devoting the next several months to doing mixtapes and collaborations on others' albums. "I'm trying to drop my album at like the end of the year," said Wayne, whose latest guest spots include work for Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, DJ Drama and Mya. "I'm a bouncing-around artist, on everybody's track, whatever the style is, I'm on it. I'm being there for them now, and I'mma do me at the end of the year. So next year will be my whole year. But this year, I want to devote to those people, do their videos, come out, do shows with them. These songs are their singles, so if I'm not available, why even make it a single?" Whenever Tha Carter, Vol. 3 does drop, Weezy says you can expect a major contribution from Kanye West. Wayne just signed on to the management company Hip-Hop Since 1978, which also handles 'Ye's career, and there's even a chance the Chi-Town music man could executive produce the project. "I can't clarify it because it's still in the air," Wayne said of Kanye's possible role on the album. "But I can say it's way more than [producing] two songs. But you never know. The new move is definitely a blessing. A new opportunity. Of course I'm gonna use it as much as I can." Two other producers that might make it onto Carter 3 are Just Blaze ("We have a crazy idea," Wayne said of his collaboration with the hitmaker) and former Cash Money Records in-house producer Mannie Fresh. Fresh recently signed a label deal with Def Jam, and it looks like he'll be resurfacing big time soon. "That's a good move for Mannie," Wayne said. "That means the door is open, that me and Mannie could get back to do what we do." "Me and dude been speaking," Fresh exclusively told MTV News about being open to working with Wayne again. (It would be a first since the producer departed Cash Money records a couple of years ago.) "We been talking about it. I told him what my restrictions are. I said, 'As long as it's you, I'm fine with it. I don't have no problems with it. As long as it's paid for and all the paperwork is done, I'm cool with it.' Because just as much as I'm a part of [Wayne], he's a part of me. I don't see nothing wrong with it. I had bad business with one person in that equation, Baby. That shouldn't stop me and Wayne from doing something." That other Wayne album everybody is waiting on seems like it's awhile off as well. Of course we're talking about the duet LP with Juelz Santana, Can't Feel My Face. The project was originally just going to be a mixtape, then they decided to make it an album, but they haven't gotten a big enough offer from a record label yet. Now, while they wait on that proper number, it looks like they'll give the streets something to tide fans over. "Juelz just called me and said, 'Since we waiting for somebody to come to the table with the right money, we have so much material, we should drop a mixtape,' " Wayne said. "So that's what we gonna do, drop a mixtape first. Then probably try to get some big names to do some beats and the album will drop. The mixtape will come by the end of the month. The album, we have to schedule it right. See what a company wants to do. Our plan was to do the whole album ourselves like some starving artists and present it to a company." Last week, as you saw right here in Mixtape Monday, Wayne and DJ Khaled dropped the Drought 3 mixtape. "The Drought [title] came ... when it was quiet for us as far as Cash Money and the South," Wayne said. "I felt it was a drought. So now I just run with it." ...

Lil' Wayne Delivers "Tha Carter III" In Time For Christmasby Janeé Bolden It looks like Lil' Wayne's sixth studio album, Tha Carter III, will be dropping by the end of the year. A Universal Records spokesperson confirmed to SOHH that Weezy's much anticipated project has been given a December 18 release date. The New Orleans rapper recently topped MTV's list of "Hottest MC's," beating out 50 Cent, T.I. and Kanye West for the number one spot. [Watch 50 Cent Reveal His Feelings on Wayne Here] Weezy's coveted position, picked by industry insiders, follows a slew of hot guest appearances and mixtape verses over the past year, all which have increased public interest in Tha Carter III. In related news, Wayne appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre last month for a "Lil' Wayne & Friends" concert. The show was punctuated by his arrest early the next morning on weapon possession charges. Weezy was later released on a $70,000 bond. If convicted, he could be sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail. Tha Carter III is expected to hit stores on December 18.

Aug 29, 8:35 PM EDT Concertgoer Sues Lil' Wayne for Injuries
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A woman has filed a lawsuit alleging she was trampled by a frenzied crowd after a large amount of cash was thrown into the crowd during a concert by rapper Lil' Wayne at Morgan State University last October.
Tyrique Layne was a 17-year-old freshman at Morgan State when she attended the show. According to the lawsuit, someone - either Lil' Wayne or members of his entourage - threw money into the crowd during the rapper's performance, a stunt known as "making it rain."
Layne alleges in the suit, filed Tuesday in Baltimore Circuit Court, that she was trampled, lost consciousness and suffered a "serious closed head injury" that required hospitalization. She has suffered since from memory loss, lapses in concentration and frequent and severe headaches, according to the complaint.
Along with Lil' Wayne, whose given name is Dwayne Michael Carter, the suit names Universal Records Inc., Cash Money Records Inc. and Young Money Touring Inc. Layne is seeking $1 million in damages.
Lil' Wayne was the opening act for Busta Rhymes at the concert. Two other women were injured in the melee, according to reports at the time.
Lil' Wayne and rapper Ja Rule were charged with felony handgun violations after a concert in Manhattan last month.

Oct 6, 7:03 PM EDT Lil Wayne Arrested After Idaho Concert
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Hip-hop star Lil Wayne was arrested in Boise on a felony fugitive charge after authorities in Georgia accused him of possessing a controlled substance, authorities said.
The 25-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was arrested after his Friday concert at Qwest Arena and booked into the Ada County jail. Because of the type of charge, he was not eligible for bond and probably wouldn't get out to make it to his scheduled Saturday night concert.
After his arrest, the jail was bombarded with dozens of angry phone calls from fans, concert promoters and others, said a jail deputy who didn't want her name to be used because of the public uproar.
"Every other phone call that we've picked up have been about him - people who have tickets wanting to know where his concert will be, people calling to see if it's true that he's incarcerated," the deputy said Saturday afternoon.
Carter is scheduled to be formally charged Tuesday and will be asked then if he plans to waive his extradition to Georgia, the deputy said.
An e-mail to Carter's publicist at Universal Music Group was not immediately returned.
Carter's previous brushes with the law include a 2005 drug arrest in Atlanta.
His "Tha Carter II" album, released in 2005, has sold about 2 million copies worldwide. He recently was voted "Hottest MC in the Game" by a panel at MTV.

His performance on the BET Hip Hop Awards was so uneventful. I'm like the only one out of all of my friends not kissing his ass.

Lil Wayne Announces Tha Carter III: The Leak on December 18, with Official LP Coming in FebruaryLil Wayne has announced that he will be dropping a prelude to his highly anticipated Tha Carter III album, rather than the actual LP, on December 18 as was previously planned. Speaking to MTV News, Weezy explains that Tha Carter III: The Leak will contain a number of tracks that have hit the internet over the past few months—such as “Prostitute Flange” and “I Feel Like Dying”—but in slightly different forms. “I’m a perfectionist,” he told MTV. “I’mma change a couple verses, couple of lines. I ain’t gonna change nothing up where it fucks up the song, I’ll just make it more complete. There are songs out there that weren’t finished; I’ll add hooks, third verses. We’re working for the fans.” The Leak will also include four brand new songs that Wayne has recorded especially for the release. The track “Gossip,” which Wayne performed live at the BET Hip-Hop Awards last week, will be the album’s first single. Although many have speculated that “Gossip” is a jab at 50 Cent, Weezy denies that allegation. The actual Carter III album, which will contain all new material, is now slated for a February 12 release date.

Now due in February... Lil Wayne Quietly Unveils Digital EPDecember 28, 2007, 1:55 PM ET Hillary Crosley, N.Y. With his next album, "Tha Carter III," not due until February via Cash Money/Universal, rapper Lil Wayne snuck out a five-song digital EP on Christmas day, dubbed "The Leak." There is no physical product for sale, but the tracks are available as digital downloads from Amazon.com, iTunes and Rhapsody. Cash Money and Universal had no comment about the EP at deadline. Several weeks ago, Lil Wayne told Billboard.com he was pushing "Tha Carter III" from Dec. 18 to February due to widespread leaks, including "Gossip," which appears on the digital EP. Jan 23, 10:19 PM EST Lil Wayne Booked on Drug Charges in Ariz
PHOENIX (AP) -- Lil Wayne was arrested on three felony drug charges Wednesday after federal agents said they found illegal drugs, including cocaine, on his charter bus at a checkpoint in southwestern Arizona.
The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., spent the day at the Yuma County jail on the state drug charges before being released, Capt. Eben Bratcher said.
After posting more than $10,000 bond, the rapper signed autographs for fans outside a bondsman's office.
James Tilson, a local lawyer retained by Carter, said that his client was not formally charged and that his next court date was scheduled for Jan. 25.
"We will find out by Jan. 25 whether or not the (Yuma) county attorney will file charges or not," Tilson said. "He is looking forward to his day in court. That's all I can say right now."
The 25-year-old faces charges of possession of dangerous drugs, narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Carter's bus was stopped about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, Ariz., 78 miles east of Yuma, Bratcher said.
A Border Patrol dog alerted agents to the presence of illegal drugs on the bus, said Drug Enforcement Administration spokeswoman Ramona Sanchez. Among what a search yielded: nearly 4 ounces of marijuana and just over an ounce of cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia. DEA agents then arrested Carter, who was traveling with 11 others.
Officials also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida. Authorities are looking into whether he violated any weapons laws in Arizona.
Two other men were arrested with him; they each face a charge of possession of marijuana.
In October, Carter and several other rappers were named in a federal lawsuit filed by music publishing companies, accusing them of sampling other artists' songs without paying licensing fees.

Jan 25, 5:13 PM EST Felony Charges Filed Against Lil Wayne
YUMA, Ariz. (AP) -- The Yuma County Attorney's Office filed felony drug and weapons charges Friday against Lil Wayne.
The 25-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was charged in justice court in Wellton, Ariz., with one count each of possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is scheduled to appear Feb. 12 at a preliminary hearing.
Carter was in court, where a judge lifted a bail restriction prohibiting him from leaving the state. He was arrested after his tour bus was stopped in southern Arizona late Tuesday and is free on bail.
Carter's lawyer, James Tilson, said his client was mostly staying positive, adding: "He is very concerned about the charges."
Free to travel outside Arizona until his next hearing, Carter was on his way to perform in Richmond, Va., Friday night.
"He absolutely will be present at his next court date," Tilson said.
Carter's bus was stopped at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, Ariz., 78 miles east of Yuma. He was traveling with 11 other people.
Ramona Sanchez, a spokeswoman for the Drug Enforcement Administration, said earlier that a Border Patrol canine unit alerted agents to the presence of illegal drugs on the bus. A search of the bus yielded nearly 4 ounces of marijuana, just over an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.
Officials also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida.
