She does sound sane but still talks in circles...I kept getting distracted while listening...LOL Anyway it doesn't sound like a solo album is coming any time soon...that sucks... I think it's getting closer. She says she'll record as soon as the tour's over, and she has been recording (with JL and Joss Stone) recently, definitely more than we've seen in almost a decade, plus Lose Myself. I think she's starting to get things back together. Here's a recent vid of her singing "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face." She sounds fantastic. I think she still has it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyUOcp7DtTc&NR=1I see where you're coming from though, I'm just going to optimistic for now. :)

The woman is a genius, but I wish she would stop being so damn vauge and evasive. She's dodging questions and enigmatically going off on tangents. I know no more about her or her plans than I did before the start of the interview.
I WANT NEW MATERIAL! Ahh..it's so frustrating to be a fan sometimes.

We'll probably never hear another Lauryn Hill or a complete Fugee album ever again.

wow, i thought i was the only one who didn't understand a damn thing in that interview. she does go off on a tangent a lot. she is getting better though. i hate what she has become though. she will not let the issue with the industry go, even talking about it puts a apprehensive look upon her face. she must have really been to hell and back over the years. but she had a lot of valid points. i just hope she don't focus on one subject with her new material and yap about nothing.

I think she probably did complete a new solo album but it was rejected...I just think she is unwilling to make any kind of commercial music anymore but she has no problem doing a track on Surfs Up for money...I mean...c'mon Lauryn...

idk, I think Lose Myself really spoke to her. It definitely sounds more commercial than her previous music though.
I actually wish they would send this song to radio.

I don't know what's happening to her. Lose Myself was good but she's still losing herself til now. What does she want anyway?

Yes, it's a common rumor now that she had major, major help on her solo album. Lauryn takes credit for being the sole writer/producer/arranger on all the songs. The case never went to trial. After denying it from the beginning, the day before the trial started, it was settled. The Rolling Stone article from 2003 is definately an eye-opener. And it sounds like she hasn't changed.

Yet the only thing they were compensated for was a small amount of drum work and light post-production. Can't help but think that if they had had a significantly bigger role, they wouldn't have accepted that title, nor the small pay-out.
No commercial album is produced Solely by one person, but I think people understand Lauryn's role as writer/producer/arranger as a PRINCIPLE/DOMINATING/CREATIVE one, rather than literally a solitary one. I also think that to be true.
Lauryn had a few very questionable interviews a couple of years back (Trace and Essence come to mind), but I think sometimes you have to forgive people for their flaws. Lauryn is certainly flawed, but she's utterly brilliant, and the two often come hand in hand.
Got to love Lose Myself though, it's my summer jam and gets better with every listen!

At this point, I'm just glad Lauryn's alive. I don't expect anything from her, and I take what I can get. She's such a genius. She made an album ten years ago that has kept her star for a decade with little else to follow. That's how amazing she is. I'll always believe in her. She's just one of those rare legendary geniuses that comes along every ten to 20 years or so.
But I do believe every word Wyclef said. Why would he lie? He's not asking for royalties. He doesn't even really care. You'd think he would have sued her if it was worth lying over. But he wouldn't do that to her over something so small. Forget about the accusations of stealing for a second.
Obviously she is the reason the Fugees have not gotten back together. Wyclef has also done a lot more than you're giving him credit for since the Fugees split up. Shakira didn't put Wyclef on the map. Perhaps you just have not been following his career. He's been steadily making good music. He's never had a big album like Hill did and that's because he's not as talented as she is. He admits that though. He even says it. He's basically saying, "look I have my strengths, and she has hers." He was very fair in what he said. Don't think he should remember the title to the song "So High". Why would he care to remember it exactly. It was a remix and he produces on a lot of stuff. If he was lying, he'd definitely remember the title. When people lie about those things, they usually get that part right. You have to remember that Wyclef knows Lauryn personally, he still has feelings for her as a friend. Despite this interview, he still wants to work with her, he still remembers the good old days.
The Fugees were Great! together and Lauryn was even Greater!! on her own, but I think you guys are right, she's one of those geniuses who has just kind of lost it. Maybe she will find her way some day and if not, I can live with it because I can always pop in the Miseductation and it's such a great work that I am always satisfied.

I don't think she lost it... it's not like she's not a great singer anymore... or that she can't bust out great material.....
I think she just doesn't care...... it seems like she got very disillisusioned with the music industry and that affected her in such a negative way that she just decided to step away..... it also seems like her personal life changed dramatically with her child....
She's a performer and she has a passion for music - that's probably the only reason why she's still around, why she still tours, and what not....
It just seems now, with how the music industry has changed so much, that she kinda doesn't fit in. In a world where she remembers her drive being about a purpose, about a message, about passion - that just doesn't prevail anymore in this day in age.

Heard 'Ex-Factor' on the radio yesterday. What happened!?! This woman was a musical genius! Drugs are bad people! :'( She was never on drugs, she just had some mental issues (breakdown, etc.). And no she hasn't retired, she's still working on a new album.

^Yeah, but wasn't she working on a 'new' album like 3 or 4 years ago? How long does it take to work on a new album? She's worse than Whitney.lol

Whitney's lucky she has her family and (darn I have to say it...) Clive ( ) to help get her back on the right track. Part of Lauryn's problem, I think, is she doesn't have anybody.
