Pssh. I'm a huge Madonna fan, but I like Lily, too & I don't really mind if she talks s**t. I listen to her music, not her opinions. Same. I'm not the biggest Madonna fan; but I own a lot of her albums and I thoroughly enjoy her music - but that doesn't stop me from liking Lily.

I remember reading an article or two about her over the summer, and she was bashing the Pussycat Dolls for not being good role models... However, in this week's issue of Billboard (page 49), she says: "I never went into this to be a role model. These girls see the honesty of me saying, 'Yes, I've taken drugs and I drink and I have sex and give my boyfriend blowjobs occasionally.' That's just what it's like being my age - and I won't change for America." Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

I copied that directly from Billboard Magazine so anyone else who gets it can back me up. January 27, 2007 issue, page 49, second column, last paragraph. I thought it was awkward too.

OC WeeklyLily Allen, Alright, Still, (Capitol Records)By KATE CARRAWAYAlready a superstar in the UK (and an Internet pop darling among the informed KCRW elite), Lily Allen will soon be a pretty big thing in the rest of America, too: the cute, kicky hit “Smile” is playful and funny, all the while featuring her recognizable jagged British accent and punchy self-awareness (similar to that of a tamed Lady Sov or even a junior M.I.A). The song—and the collection of frothy pop that follows—weaves populist narratives that are a little bit Amy Winehouse and, well, a little latter-day Spice Girls. Which has its downs and ups: most of Alright, Still seems to tiptoe around wispy jazz, relying heavily on the middling sounds of reggae and standard pop that just can’t keep up with Allen’s weighty singsong-speak. A few tracks, namely “LDN” and “Not Big,” feature light-stepping ska, while “Shame For You” is a sassy cabaret-ready tune that would be miles better if it had been banged out a little more in the vein of Regina Spektor. Lyrically, too, Allen swings with the inconsistency of a lazy child prodigy. “Everything’s Just Wonderful” is a resigned sigh about the young urban existence and “Take What Take” is just a tepid wreck. Its grating ahhhhhhhs would be better suited for an orange juice commercial. The track “Littlest Things,” however, is a definite sweetheart, best demonstrating Allen’s finer points, among them the musings of a shy ingenue with a stocked costume trunk. I really do want to love a girl who publishes a blog entry titled “Twats,” is hated by a great deal of the British music industry, and seems to have less concern for any good PR than Britney-come-lately, but overall Alright, Still just seems to be a well-disguised lack of musical oomph hiding behind a catchy pop sound.

Let's just ignore the 2007 American reviews for this album. Especially any that may came from the brain-drain state (California).

She talks crap about someone every week practically. She's a stupid little poser ho and was trashing people as soon as she got a hit. That stops me from being able to stomach her. And the idea that her music is something amazing and worthy of endless praise is pushing it a little.

I'm not saying I'm okay with her going around talking sh.t about everyone but I love her music. Like highly evolved said, She is very outspoken but she has the tunes to back it up.

I don't care what artist say as long as they have good music. And Lily does.
And personally, I'm around Lily's age and I really don't care much about Madonna either. She's a legend in her own right, but doesn't do anything for me. I guess I understand what she means. The Madonna I care about is the one my cousins grew up listening to and her new stuff isn't exactly like that.

I think she'll sell about 45k. Enough to get her in the Top 10, but Norah Jones and Katharine McPhee are definitely going to keep her out of the Top 2.

BillboardPictures Of LilyLily Allen knows precisely where she was when she first realized her "Smile" single was taking off in the United Kingdom, where she was for most of the landmarks in her pop career: on the Internet. "I was in America and Jo Whiley played it on Radio 1 back home," Allen says. "My MySpace [page] just went insane. It was first thing in the morning where I was but there were hundreds of comments and I thought, 'This is it now.'" Since that moment, 21-year-old Allen has become the poster girl for social networking sites in the United Kingdom, reaching platinum status (300,000 units) for her Regal/Parlophone album, "Alright, Still," on the back of a hugely innovative digital campaign. "MySpace A&R'd my record," she says of the set, due this week in the U.S. via Capitol. "I'd do songs, put them straight up and if people liked them they went on the album. The record company didn't think my musical direction was right at all until I set up the site." In fact, the album's snapshot of British urban life stands as a rare pop record to attract heavyweight critical acclaim and across-the-board sales appeal. In the United Kingdom, Allen's forthright views on other artists and bared-knuckle lyrics about teenage sex and drugs have given her cult hero status among her young fan base, while making her a target for the notorious British tabloid press. "I never went into this to be a role model," she says. "These girls see the honesty of me saying, 'Yes, I've taken drugs and I drink and I have sex and give my boyfriend blowjobs occasionally.' That's just what it's like being my age -- and I won't change for America."

MTV EuropeJamelia wants Lily for BritWe like to see celebrities put a spat behind them and Jamelia's doing just that by backing Lily Allen to pick up best female at this year's UK Brit Awards. The pair had a verbal fall out last year after Jam asked the gals' record label Parlophone to make a clean version of Lily's 'Alright, Still' album for her daughter, Teja.At the time an incensed Lily told MTV, "Maybe she should pay for that to get done herself. It's not coming out of my expenses." And sources at a recent recording of Never Mind The Buzzcocks which starred both girls, told us the atmosphere between them was decidedly frosty. So it's nice to see Jamelia has let bygones be bygones. Talking to MTV News, the 'Beware Of The Dog' diva said, "I'm really happy with the nomination. But I would love to see Lily win. Lily will walk away with it. She definitely deserves it." And the compliments didn't end there. "Lily is a huge character," she told us, "but I think that's what makes her and gives her, her appeal. She is a brilliant artist as well."
