Ozzy Back In 'Black' On First Album In Six Years April 11, 2007
Christa L. Titus and Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Ozzy Osbourne's first new studio album since 2001, "Black Rain," will arrive May 22 via Epic. The set was tracked Osbourne's home studio in Los Angeles with his touring band of guitarist Zakk Wylde, bassist Blasko and drummer Mike Bordin. Fans can sample some of the new tunes on Osbourne's Web site.
The new record is milestone for Osbourne since it's the first in his entire career he recorded sober. "I thought I'd never write again without any stimulation," he admits to Billboard. "But you know what? Instead of picking of the bottle I just got honest and said, "I don't want life to go [to pieces]."
Beyond first single "I Don't Wanna Stop," "Black Rain" also includes the songs "Not Going Away," "Civilize the Universe," "Trap Door" and "Thank God for the Almighty Dollar," a number of which were co-written with Wylde.
Osbourne says, "People say, 'Why do you keep goin' to Zakk?' 'Cause you know what? There ain't no one else like 'em. He comes up with the stuff, plus the fact he's a family member. If he said to me, 'Ozzy, I need you to do this, will you do [it]?' I wouldn't think twice."
Before his headlining his stint on this year's free Ozzfest, Osbourne will play international dates beginning May 27 in Moscow. He is also one of the subjects of VH1's "Rock Honors," to be taped May 12 in Las Vegas for a May 24 premiere on the network.

Billboard review:
Black Rain OZZY OSBOURNE Producer(s): Kevin Shirley Label: Epic
Like Ozzy Osbourne says on the opening track of "Black Rain," he's "Not Going Away." He underscores that intention with infectious, chugging lead single "I Don't Wanna Stop." The song also signals the return of Zakk Wylde as a co-writer. Every gleeful zing of the guitar solo shouts, "Yeah, I wrote this!" Osbourne shows his environmental consciousness on the slinking, bass-heavy "God Bless the Almighty Dollar," but free Ozzfest aside, the antigreed anthem will induce snickering in the wake of "The Osbournes." The title track is a "War Pigs" for the new millennium, which is where Osbourne has both feet firmly planted. With him abstaining from the damaging excess of his past (he addresses addiction's dangers on "Trap Door"), his music reflects his current phase in life: neat, clean and on track. —Christa L. Titus

I finally heard the single on the radio, and I love it. I have never cared for Ozzy.at.all. But this is really good. He is even easy to understand, for a change.
His voice is shot, but it is so buried in effects, and the song is just so dang good, it really doesn't matter.

Billboard.biz:
• Ozzy Osbourne's first studio album in nearly six years gives the legend his highes-charting set, as "Black Rain" bows at No. 3 with 152,000 units. That's not quite 1,000 less than his SoundScan-high week of 153,000 when "Down to Earth" started at No. 4 in 2001 ...
Figure that the solid sales for the new album are owed partially to a hot single ("I Don't Wanna Stop") and how a limited run of the set contained an offer that increased one's chances to secure tickets for the Ozzfest tour, which may explain why 24% of the album's first-week sales came from Internet retailers. Why roll the dice with going to a brick-and-mortar store and hoping they had the limited edition in stock when one could pre-order that set online? "I Don't Wanna Stop" is spending its sixth week at No. 1 on the Rock radio airplay chart (formerly known as the Heritage Rock chart).
Osbourne's chart career dates back almost 37 years to Black Sabbath's self-titled set bowing on The Billboard 200 Aug. 29, 1970 ...

I read on the internet he backed out of the American Idol finale because they wanted him to sing with Sanjaya who he said was an idiot- supposedly they had to get the other guy at the last minute.

Osbourne fears for his legacySinger Ozzy Osbourne fears he will only be remembered for his stunts on stage when he dies. The Black Sabbath frontman is one of rock music's most enduring figures and prays he's remembered for his musical achievements. He tells London's Time Out magazine, "I hope when I die that it doesn't say on my gravestone: 'The man who bit the head off a f**king parrot'. "I wanna be buried with Sharon. She's gotta have her hands out the coffin, though, or she'll be going through my pockets when we're dead!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh poor man, Sharon's going to harass him in the afterlife too... And, BTW, was it a dove, parrot or bat head he bit off? ;)

Oct 9, 9:13 AM EDT Osbournes to Auction Contents of 3 Homes
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are doing some housecleaning.
The 58-year-old rocker and his wife are selling art, furniture and collectibles from their homes in Malibu, Beverly Hills and England.
The Nov. 30 auction will also feature items from their MTV reality show, "The Osbournes," including son Jack Osbourne's black leather bedroom furniture and a cast-iron crucifix that adorned Ozzy's den in various episodes.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation.
"It's time to unload," said Sharon Osbourne, who celebrates her 55th birthday on Wednesday. "We just have an overabundance of possessions that we do not need."
With their three children now grown and out of the house, the couple have changed their style and moved to a new home, she told The Associated Press, adding that parting with hundreds of items has been "one of the most refreshing things I've done."
Ozzy, however, doesn't share his wife's enthusiasm.
"I don't know why we are selling everything as I want it all," Osbourne said in a statement.
He will perform a benefit concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Nov. 30, the first night of the sale.
"Ozzy gets very attached to things," Sharon explained. "He doesn't like change at all."
Highlights from the auction will be shown at The 02 arena in London on Nov. 5.
The sale, administered by Julien's Auctions, will be held Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Gibson Guitar Showroom in Beverly Hills. Bids can be placed in person, by phone or over the Internet.

Nov 4, 1:04 AM EST Ozzy Angered by ND Sheriff's Sting
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Ozzy Osbourne wants an apology from the Cass County sheriff for staging a sting operation in the rocker's name without his permission.
Osbourne claims his reputation was tarnished when Sheriff Paul Laney invited 500 people with outstanding warrants to a phony party at a Fargo nightclub before the rocker's concert with Rob Zombie at a nearby arena. More than 30 showed up and were arrested.
"Instead of holding a press conference to pat himself on the back, Sheriff Laney should be apologizing to me for using my name in connection with these arrests," Osbourne said in a statement.
"It is insulting to me and to my audience and it shows how lazy this particular sheriff is when it comes to doing his job," Osbourne said.
Laney said Friday that it's his job to arrest people with outstanding warrants.
"We meant no disrespect toward Mr. Osbourne or his show," Laney said. "What we did was a very creative law enforcement technique to lure individuals who had active criminal warrants to come to us."
He said mentioning Osbourne's name in the invitations was no different than a bar advertising a Super Bowl party by mentioning the teams playing in the game.
Laney said Monday's sting was done to let the community know his office was doing its best to serve about 3,000 outstanding warrants it must deal with.
"They get very creative in how they abscond from the law," the sheriff said of the wanted individuals. "We just got real creative in how we reeled them in," Laney said.
Not everyone is taking the sting personally, Laney said.
"Three people called to say, 'I got one of those letters. Since you're being so creative, I'm turning myself in. Give me a court date,'" Laney said.

Dec 2, 5:43 AM EST Osbourne Cleans House With Garage Sale
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Heavy metal fans aren't usually seen making bids at high-end auctions, but they turned out in numbers to snatch up a coat with embroidered bats, sneakers with skulls on them and other items put up for sale by Ozzy Osbourne.
"We had Ozzy fans bidding against these sophisticated fine art buyers, which you don't see every day," said Darren Julien, whose company, Julien's Auctions, ran the charity sale Friday and Saturday. "For the most part the metalheads were outbidding the art crowd."
Bidders came from as far as Germany to try and buy belongings from the Beverly Hills mansion formerly owned by the rocker and former star of "The Osbournes" reality show.
Items featured on Osbourne's hit MTV show were the most popular, Julien said. The bat coat sold for $3,300, the skull sneakers brought in $2,625 and a pair of the rocker's trademark round glasses went for $5,250.
Julien said the "Ozzy factor" made ordinary items command big-ticket prices. An oversized coffee cup that Osbourne often clutched while the cameras rolled sold for $1,625.
A dog bed given to Osbourne's wife Sharon by Elton John brought in $2,375.
Fine art buyers were interested in items like a sculpture by French artist Edouard Drouot ($10,500) and a painting by Gabriel Joseph Marie Augustin Ferrier ($5,312).
Julien said Osbourne almost did not want to part with his prized pool table because he cherished the memories of playing with his kids as they were growing up. The table eventually ended up on the auction block and it brought in $11,250.
The auction brought in $800,000 - more than twice the amount Julien predicted. All proceeds from the sale go to The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
"For a celebrity garage sale, it was pretty spectacular," Julien said.
