The more I listen to "Irvine" the more I get a Patsy kind of vibe. That one take perfect vocal, that takes most artist 4 hours to record.
I mean, Joss, Gwen, Patsy, Benatar... I can also hear Alanis vibe in some songs. I can see P!nk in songs as "Chivas" and "How I Feel" song writing wise and vocally. Plus I think on some of the harder stuff, (some parts of Sober and Hole) she reminds me of Ann Wilson. Having the softness, while the amazing power. I can't think of not a one female in todays music who that could be said about.
Absoluty stunning album. Musically, vocally, production, lyrically... STUNNING!

Be Still totally owns me. I remember when we got the lyrics I didn't think there was anything there, so I didn't think much of it. But now when I listen to it I stop everything else I'm doing just to admire it, soak in it, enjoy every breathy note...
My other favorites are the heavy rock tracks - Hole, Haunted, Judas, How I Feel, One Minute (and Sober)
My two least favorite are Don't Waste Your Time and Yeah, the two co-written by Malcolm Pardon and Fredrik Rinman. Possibly just a coincidence, I don't know their involvement.

Be Still stands out so much to me and it's my current fave right now. My second fave so far is Irvine, I can't decide the order of the others yet.

Irvine reminds me of Christina's "I'm OK," which was also a very emotional song.

Still may move some around since I've only listened to it twice through... but I just LOVE the album!! It usually takes me at least 5+ listens to really get a sense of how much I like a song.
LOVE: Irvine Haunted How I Feel Don't Waste Your Time Be Still Sober Chivas
Like a Lot: Never Again
Like: Maybe Can I Have A Kiss
Don't care too much for / possible "growers": Hole Judas Yeah
Don't care: One Minute

^^ nice comparison OU! I'm ok is probably one of my all time favorite songs EVER by ANY artist and I put Irvine right up with that one for sure!
Be Still is so amazing too! Such a beautiful, loving, emotional song! I'm glad to see there are actually songs on here that aren't bitter and angry, not that I'm shocked, kelly said that NA was the most bitter song on the album.
I'm loving this CD, with the exception of Judas, which I'm not crazy about but probably wouldn't skip.
Kelly's got a winner on her hands, no matter what it sells IMO.

^ haha, I'm glad you can go to sleep now. All afternoon I kept thinking "this reminds of another song, similar voice..." and it just came to me a little while ago.
shannon, the stripped CD is amazing, one of my favorites. B2B was also fantastic, so I'm a big fan. Where Xtina loses me is in her live performances when she almost always goes over the top and doesn't seem accessible, but Kelly does. That's in no way meant to be negative toward C, it's just an explanation of why I don't follow her career (and every move) like Kelly.
This part from "How I Feel" always makes me giggle with the way she uses her voice during it, and it does remind me of No Doubt.
It seems every time I find a good man He’s got a good little wife I’m not jealous but I won’t lie I don’t want to hear about your wonderful life And babies everywhere I look Trophy wives with their little black books At this rate I’m gonna end up alone It’s probably all my fault, all my fault

Jordan, you should at least listen to Be Still and How I feel.... it will put any doubts you had about the quality of this CD to rest. Those two songs are f'g amazing! Also Hole...what a stunner that one is! Much more Pop than I would've thought just reading the lyrics but still edgy and different.
Irvine, also amazing! That one had the ability to make you weep just hearing the pain in her voice.
OU, I'm with you on CA! she was my favorite before Kelly came alone and the only difference between the two that I can come up with is their personalities. Following Kelly is like following a friend's career, she's real and open and accessible....Christina just seems to much the "star" for me to care about her personally. I adore her voice and think she, along with Kelly, has the best voice of this generation of female singers.
I keep listinging to How I feel...what a fun song that is!! It's getting harder to pick a favorite the more I listen to them.... the only one I'm just not feeling is Judas.... (haven't listened to OM or Yeah cuz I didn't really like those to begin with so I'm holding out on those LOL)...

Well, I think "My December" is 10 times better than "Breakaway." This is the first real album than any of the Idols have done. IMO, it's the only one that has any real artistic value. So far, Kelly has recorded the two best Idol-alumni CD's: "Breakaway" and "My December."
I think "My December" either matches or exceeds her genuine ability. She went above and beyond. I agree that Kelly outdid herself. The third time IS the charm. I'm glad she didn't take the $10M. I applaud her for believing in herself and believing in the songs she recorded. Sales aside, I think Kelly made the right choice.
MY ONLY CRITICISM: I would have left off "Irvine" and "Chivas" and left it at 12. IMO, they sound like they're from a different album. It makes it a little long with those 2. I'll definitely skip those. But I would have taken off "Breakaway" and "Beautiful Disaster (Live)" from the last one for the same reason. They didn't fit with the other 10. For me, the album always started with SUBG and ended with "Hear Me."
Yeah, I pretty much agree with this. But I still like "Never Again" as the first single. I love the video.

Anyone know where i'd find individual tracks uploaded?

Great reviews! Love it! Especially the Irvine and Hole and How I Feel news! I KNEW the album had alot more amazing sounding tunes and single potentials and that NA wasn't the most 'radio friendly' song on the track - to what you guys are sounding like. (Yah I'm one of those guys who refuse to listen to leaked album tunes even though I'm gonna buy the album).
Sorry about the loss of the last thread, but once the album leaked online that shoulda been a red flag to lock it up (especially with almost 100k views, and no I'm not dissing the administration, it happened too fast for them to react so its not their fault)

Jordan, do you like Rock with a funk bass line? If you do check out "Hole". That and "Sober" are my favorites. Kelly should be in the Chili Peppers..lol.

The chorus melody on "Be Still" is a copy of a popular hit song- maybe 70's- but I can't place it- but it is definitely from another song.

I'm actually realy impressed with this album. I've followed Kelly's career since the beginning but never have really been apart of like KCE(cause i think some there are really mean towards other artists but whatev). I'm not much of a "pop" person but still loved "breakaway".. MD is excellent and I think she'll get some serious criticle cred but I don't know if it'll sell that well..but who cares....It's a great album and irvine owns me..I can't stop listening to it. Best Kelly track Evah...Absolutly beautiful.
Shannon, don't yell at me...

Well, I don't know WHAT to think. This is different from "Breakaway" and there's no shame in liking "Breakaway"- it was the album she wanted to make and it was very much her at the time- this change just seems sudden- all of a sudden the sound is totally different and it's a bit hard to adjust to that. All this talk of "Breakaway" being "commercial" and "radio friendly"- they were damn good songs- nothing wrong with that. When I first heard "Behind These Hazel Eyes," I said to myself, "this is a great song but it will never be picked as a single." But it did- that those songs were smashes is because they were GOOD.
Lot of good songs here but it's just different feel. I like Judas, How I feel, Irvine, Chivas, Sober, and I like One Minute. Whether I'll end up playing them over and over again like I did the "Breakaway" songs, I don't know. We'll see.

fischbone, I'm glad you like the album, and I hope the critics love it too.
(I'm just not really sure why the dig at KCE is necessary, but whatev...)
P.S. I can't stop watching the CMT Crossroads SUBG video!! Cracks me up!
