Toni Braxton's Vegas Return PostponedFri., May. 9, 2008 2:00 PM PDT The R&B diva won't be returning to her long-running show at the Flamingo Las Vegas for at least another month, after what was initially supposed to be a three-week break for health reasons, according to a rep for Harrah's Entertainment. Toni Braxton: Revealed is scheduled to close in August, but the titular star hasn't been onstage since she was hospitalized with chest pains on the evening of April 7. No one is commenting on her current medical condition, but Braxton has been treated in the past for pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining of the heart. Donny and Marie Osmond have inked a deal to put on a greatest-hits-style variety show once Braxton's two-year run at the Flamingo ends.

Drop that towel, ho! I still love this woman and never forget how my best friend hated her when she first came out because she said she looked and sounded like a man but then grew to love her.

May 29, 11:33 PM EDT Braxton's Vegas show canceled amid health issues LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Las Vegas hotel has announced that the rest of Toni Braxton's scheduled shows have been canceled so the singer can focus on her health. The show, "Toni Braxton: Revealed," at the Flamingo Las Vegas had been dark since the 40-year-old entertainer was hospitalized April 7 with what hotel officials said at the time was a complaint of chest pain. The show had been scheduled to resume June 6. Harrah's Entertainment spokeswoman Deanna Petit says she could not comment on the singer's current medical condition. Braxton has been treated in the past for pericarditis, a viral inflammation of the heart.

From Ask Billboard:
REVEALING BRAXTON
Hi Keith,
I'm a big Toni Braxton fan and just wanted to know if you could possibly tell me where she ranks in terms of best selling artists in history, both in R&B music and overall.
Thank you so much, Marvin Phidd
Hi Marvin,
As you are a big fan of Braxton's, I hope you were able to see her in Las Vegas during her long-running "Revealed" show at the Flamingo Hotel.
Unfortunately, her continuing undisclosed health issues forced the closure of the show yesterday (May 29). The show had been dark since April 7, when the singer was hospitalized due to chest pains.
The "Revealed" show opened in August 2006 and was slated to continue through August of this year.
Let's now focus on Braxton's album sales. Since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991, Braxton has sold 14.5 million albums in the U.S.
That makes her the No. 111th biggest-selling artist overall and the sixth best-selling R&B female singer since 1991. Among female R&B singers, since 1991, only Mariah Carey (51 million), Mary J. Blige (21.4 million), Janet Jackson (19.7), Sade (16.5) and Alicia Keys (15.1) have sold more albums in the U.S. than Braxton.

I'm guessing the "Revealed" set will be taken down soon (if it hasn't already been): The Time Lands In VegasWednesday, Jun 4, 2008 2:02PM
Eighties funk funsters The Time will kick off a run in Las Vegas this summer that brings all of the band's original members together for the first time in 20 years.
The group is stepping into the spot vacated when Toni Braxton was forced to cancel the remainder of her two year run at the Flamingo Las Vegas earlier this month.
The Time's limited engagement kicks off June 24 and runs through July 5, with a second set of dates launching July 29 and wrapping August 2.
Tickets are available at FlamingoLasVegas.com.
The band, Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, Jerome Benton, Jelly Bean Johnson and Monte Moir, was inspired to reunite after rehearsals for a show-stopping performance at this year's Grammys revived long-forgotten camaraderie. The group began rehearsals for the new show in Los Angeles this week.
Irrepressible frontman Day described the experience of preparing for the run in his trademark style.
"We don't know what the show will be like yet. It's just like the beginning of sex. You know what the goal is, but you don't know what the path is to get there."

MIKE WEATHERFORD: Braxton run shows the rigors of VegasJun. 08, 2008 Copyright © Las Vegas Review-Journal By the measure that counts most on the Strip, Toni Braxton's run at the Flamingo Las Vegas was an unqualified success. "It was very profitable, and especially in these times, that's a good thing," says Flamingo Las Vegas president Don Marrandino. "There was never a weekend when we weren't full." But I wonder how many people who saw the show felt the same way? How many left, as I did the couple of times I saw it, with the feeling that what could have been great instead wavered between "OK" and "pretty good"? That Braxton's Las Vegas story was still one of unrealized potential? Braxton seemed quite the coup in May 2006. Here was a singer with 16 million sales of her first two albums. A singer whose hits weren't tied solely to a teen audience. And above all, a singer who hadn't already worn out her casino welcome through overexposure. As it turned out, Braxton had been starting a family. She was optimistic at the onset of a run that allowed her to play working mom in the Celine Dion mode. "The dry heat is perfect for me because I'm asthmatic. I'm the opposite of Celine," she said. The singer was personable and engaging, both offstage and in her stage banter. But the chatter -- if not the skimpy outfits -- turned out to be the best part of "Revealed." The voice wasn't the one people remembered. In fact, people Braxton pulled up from the audience often outsang her. The show did pull in "a market niche that was never really served here," Marrandino notes. It was extended for a full contract term, until Aug. 20. But Braxton last performed on April 7. A heart scare sent her to the hospital, and after a long wait-and-see, it recently was decided not to risk further aggravation of her heart condition, pericarditis. Does that explain everything? I still wonder if her heart wasn't in it on another level. The whole thing reminds me of the difference between pop stars and that rare breed of entertainer who has both the stamina and the zeal to perform week in and week out. As Marrandino concedes, Vegas can beat the stuffing out of an entertainer. "In retrospect, if I were to design the show, I'd make it a little bit less physical," he says. And it's really hard to get this Vegas-showcase thing just right. If the performance is too rote, the trouper comes off a hack. If it looks too difficult, the star comes off a diva. I wouldn't be surprised if the year-round headliner becomes a rare creature; Cher and Bette Midler are attacking the Strip more modestly. And those who do get a full-time post on the Strip need to be here not merely because they want to stay in one place, but because they simply can't stay away. Mike Weatherford's entertainment column appears Thursdays and Sundays. Contact him at 702-383-0288 or e-mail him at mweatherford@reviewjournal.com.

Braxton Removed:04:33 PM PDT on Saturday, June 21, 2008 The multi-story building wrap of R&B star Toni Braxton, which long had adorned the Flamingo's western facade, has been taken down. The visage of magician Nathan Burton is now displayed. ================================= Toni B. -- Heart Acher to Heartbreaker!Posted Jun 25th 2008 9:05AM by TMZ Staff Ain't nobody that can work it out with a sick heart like Toni Braxton. She's been in hiding since she canceled her Vegas show last month for health reasons -- but last night Toni showed up to a BET after-party at Mr. Chow looking flawless.

Nice to see LIBRA wasn't completely slept on: www.caraudiomag.com/features/caep_0807_focal_polyglass_165_cxv/index.htmlFocal Polyglass 165 CXV - Web Exclusive MSRP: $299.00 writer: Casey Thorson Avid readers of CA&E know Focal's reputation, hence the reason so many systems we feature--those belonging to the money-is-no-object guys and serious SQ competitors--choose the brand. And, no - it's not because they suck. While many of Focal's products are priced out of reach for the masses, such as the ultra exotic Utopia Be, you can still find carryover technology in their entry and mid-fi lines. A good example of the trickledown effect can be seen in the Polyglass 165CVX coaxial. While its tweeter dome is derived of aluminum, it still keeps the same inverted design of the Utopia Be. Although this is a coaxial, I found the tweeter mounting to be unique. It stands upon a pole jutting from within the woofer's voice coil as most do, but in a fixed-angle position. From there, the entire stand-off rotates approximately 270-degrees to focus its output in the desired direction. The driver's DIN size chassis, featuring multiple bolt patterns to fit a variety of vehicles, is derived from fiberglass filled ABS. While designed to squash resonance, users must be extremely careful not to mount the speaker to an uneven surface since plastic frames damage easily. Other strides were made with the Polyglass cone which consists of hallow silica microspheres deposited over cellulous pulp (paper). This makes the cone stiff, light and well damped. The best feature has to be the innovative built-in -12dB "audiophile" crossover. Incorporated into the rear of the motor, it's said to add no mounting depth (although it is set in a plastic cup at the rear of the driver, so I can't see how) and yet is constructed using high quality polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors. ListeningAfter some serious break-in and set-up time, I was ready to rock `n roll. But were the Focals? With the speakers appropriately off-axis, tweeters up and centered, I dialed in "Shadowless" by Toni Braxton to begin my interrogation. My first impression was one of imbalance, as the tweeters demonstrated their superiority over the woofers. This made it hard for Braxton's voice to scale upwards without blooming through areas of her higher range, producing vocals that sounded overly thin. It also affected the hard strikes of the guitar strings, yet the softer strums were executed with notable detail. With Coldplay's "Clocks," the tweeter superiority complex was cured, somewhat. Martin's vocals were a little too open on the top end, but the details of the guitar were easily perceived at any volume. An encouraging find, the piano was well controlled, particularly at high volumes--no doubt a byproduct of using good components in the crossover. Switching gears, the bass-heavy tracks of Ziggy Marley were relatively uncompromised. In other words, pretty damn good for 6 " drivers. Yet tracks with a elevated energy in the upper range, like "Fragile" by Sting, the high frequencies became excessive. It almost appears as if this was the designer's intention as a way to bring out the details in music, but it comes at the expense of sounding unnatural. ConclusionEven with their robust upper range, I liked the 165CVX's. They imaged well, had good high frequency resolution, and served up a rather brawny low-end. They also offer stunning build quality and attention to detail. At $299, they're certainly worth considering. Additional sizes: 4", 5.25", 6.5", 6x9" "Look for other fullrange speaker reviews in the Oct. issue of CA&E on sale Aug. 19th."
