Oasis enter studioOasis will begin recording their new album next month, Noel Gallagher has announced. The band are due to commence work on the follow-up to 2005's "Don't Believe The Truth" on July 3. Noel says the intention is for the record to be released next summer, but admitted that maybe "wishful thinking". He explained: "The songs are written... but don't hold your breath because the last album took three-and-half-years and three goes. "It would be great if it was done by the end of the year and we could get out on the road by next summer, but that's insane wishful thinking", Noel told the BBC.

Oasis exclusive: new album and single details announcedThe Gallaghers' new album will be out in October Oasis will release their next studio album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', on October 6 on their Big Brother label. The album will be preceded by a single, 'The Shock Of The Lightning', on September 29. The LP, which will be the band's seventh studio effort, was produced by Dave Sardy, who also worked on Oasis' last album, 2005's 'Don't Believe The Truth'. It was recorded in London's Abbey Road and mixed in Los Angeles. Comeback single 'The Shock Of The Lightning' was written by Noel Gallagher and features his brother, Liam Gallagher, on lead vocals. Speaking about the album Noel Gallagher said: "I wanted to write music that had a groove; not songs that followed that traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight. "I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic; more driving. Songs that would draw you in, in a different way. Songs that you would maybe have to connect to – to feel." Of 'The Shock Of The Lightning', Gallagher added: "If 'The Shock Of The Lightning' sounds instant and compelling to you, it's because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. "'The Shock of The Lightning' basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best." www.nme.com/news/oasis/37588

I like "Bag it Up"; haven't formed an opinion on the album as a whole, but upon my first listen it seemed decent, if not mind-blowing. Which is to be expected.

Street Pulse's first day sales reports are predicting a #2 debut for them on The Billboard 200. If that happens, it would equal Be Here Now's debut week in 1997.

What are you seeing? It's an editorial. I liked the key lighting & silhouette effect.

"What are you seeing?" Well, Dr. Freud, what I see is the image of a grieving girl. More specifically, a girl grieving over lost love. The black tones and the fact that she has a veil pretty much gave it away. Well, seriously, the image did come across to me that way. But what truly brought my attention was the fact that you didn't write any text below it. And with such an evocative and visually strong image, it did look to me like YOU were trying to say something through the image. There you go: I WAS seeing things! Now back to our regularly scheduled Oasis program.

Well, actually, the whole editorial had a funereal theme. Which is right up my (and apparently Karl Lagerfeld's) alley. But it was more an elegiac homage to 17th century tranquility, stoicism, & desolation, a la Hawthorne. Although, because I'm nearly sure it was shot in Germany, sturm und drang literary references spring to mind as well. Whatever the intent, it is a moody, somehow poignant result.

Debuts at #1 in the UK with 200k sold. All of their studio albums debuted atop the album chart there. They scanned 13 million copies of their albums in the UK alone.
Also, they were playing the album at my local store when I went shopping on Saturday. I have to say that, while absolutely nothing new, the album isn't bad at all.

I have to say that, while absolutely nothing new, the album isn't bad at all. Yeah, since 2005, they've experienced something of a minor rebirth. Improvement, in their case, is not about exploring new creative territory. It's about revitalizing their songwriting approach and taking advantage of technological improvements to strengthen their aural attack. Don't Believe The Truth succeeded on the strengths of the former, making it the stronger of the two albums. Dig Out Your Soul's music is less nuanced - it mainly shocks the senses into submission, but that too is a specific, integral part of Oasis's intitial appeal. They have finally figured out what they lost after 1995 and are trying to rebuild it. It all needs to be pieced together into one project. They'll never have the cultural resonance they did at their peak, but if they can still produce strong material, they should keep cracking at it.
