Thanks for doing this. I really enjoy reading it! :) You can say it's 'living country history'. I recognize that there are many folks younger than me and who never heard most of these songs and artists when they were FIRSt on the radio. Most of the songs I mention I really DO remember for the first time on the radio. Thanks for the compliments, and all comments are welcomed! :)

April 30th.
Today's Country Birthdays: Willie Nelson (1933) 75 years old The 'Red Headed Stranger" celebrates a birthday today. Willie played in Ray Price's band in the 1950's before being on his own. Known early as a song writer, Willie's songs were recorded by Claude Gray (Family Bible 1960 #10), Patsy Cline (Crazy #2 1962) , Ray Price (Night Life 1963 #28), and Narvel Felts (Funny How Time Slips Away 1975 #12). Chart wise, Willie's first two singles both hit in the T10; Willingly (1962 #10 duet with Shirley Collie) and Touch Me (1963 #7) then the drought hit. Willie failed to hit the T10 until 1975, when everything changed. Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain (1975 #1) became a country and pop hit (#21)and a Grammy winning male performance. In 1976, Willie and Waylon hooked up for Good Hearted Woman (#1) and that song became the CMA Single of the Year. Strange that as a solo artist, Willie's best effort has to be On the Road Again (1980 #1), yet, speaking about the Billboard chart, Beer For My Horses (2003 6 weeks @#1) with Toby Keith is ranked as Willie's best chart run.....with help from Toby!
Among his songwriting, television, movies and the Farm Aid concerts starting in the 1980's, Willie Nelson has certainly left his impact on country music for many generations to come..
Robert Reynolds (The Mavericks) (1962) 46 years old The Mavericks, from Miami, Florida, began their chart career in 1992 with Hey Good Lookin' (#74). Although the group never had a T10 hit, they held a large following due to the vocals of Raul Malo. The Mavericks made six T40 appearances and All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down (1996 #13) is at the top of the list. Their last chart appearance was in 2004 with the pop remake, The Air That I Breathe (#59).
Carolyn Dawn Johnson (1971) 37 years old Carolyn has had six chart singles and Complicated (2001 #5) has been her best. Die of a Broken Heart (2004 #52) was her last chart appearance.
Cole Deggs (Cole Deggs and the Lonesome) (1976) 32 years old Newcomers to the charts, Cole Deggs and the Lonesome has had two singles: I Got More (2007 #25) and Girl Next Door (2008 #49).
Tyler Wilkinson (The Wilkinsons) (1984) 24 years old The father, daughter, son Canadian trio placed seven singles between 1998-2001. Their first single 26 Cents (1998 #3) is their most recognized single and only T10.

May 1st.
Today's Country Birthdays: Sonny James (1929) 79 years old James Hugh Loden (aka Sonny James, the Southern Gentleman), appeared on the country charts a total of 72 times. Sonny had the distinction of having 16 consecutive number one singles from 1967-1971, until the group Alabama broke that streak from 1980-1987 with 20 consecutive singles (excluding Christmas entries). However, Sonny's biggest single was not among that amazing sting of number one hits. Young Love (1957) spent nine weeks at number one during the Spring of that year. Sonny James was elected to the Country Music Association Hall of Fame in 2006.
Other big hits by Sonny James: You're the Only World I Know (1965 four weeks @#1) Behind A Tear (1965 three weeks @#1) Only the Lonely (1969 three weeks @#1) Don't Keep Me Hangin' On (1970 four weeks @#1) Bright Lights, Big City (1971 #1) Is It Wrong (For Loving You) (1974 #1) his last number one single
Tim McGraw (1967) 41 years old Samuel Timothy McGraw charted for the first time in 1992 with Welcome To The Club (#47) and became one of today's country superstars. His first T40 hit was also his first T10, Indian Outlaw (1994 #8). His follow-up single, Don't Take the Girl (1994) became his first number one single. Since then Tim has had over 20 number ones, some of which were with his wife Faith Hill. Yet, it was Live Like You Were Dying (2004 seven weeks @#1) which is his greatest hit. Currently he is at #19 with his single Kristofferson.
