Saw Eric/Justin Moore/Kip Moore In Frisco, Houston, and Austin last weekend. Best Texas crowds they've ever had, though still pretty small compared to the rest of their tour stops. Justin has a great voice live, wasn't too impressed with Kip but he was a nice guy.
Hey Carriekins, Cadillac Black is just 3 guys and they aren't country at all, but if you like Southern Rock you'll appreciate what they do. They're awesome at it.

I've seen Cadillac Black ... 5 times, I think, with Dierks. I don't particularly love them, but I don't particularly loathe them, either. They do have great energy, and are genuinely nice guys. I'm still trying to figure out if I want to see Kip/Justin/Eric when they're here in November. I like Kip. I've seen Eric enough to not have to see him again, though. I do not, at all, like Justin. Maybe if I win tickets I'll go. Eh. And thanks, Jonathan. Typo. ;)

I have not (yet), but I know many who have, and they definitely agree with that, Joey.

So I have this tour idea that I'm wondering if it's ever been done or why people don't do it. It's a stadium tour, but on college campuses. I feel like it would be a huge hit and something unique. Someone like Aldean or Church or Luke Bryan could kill it at football stadiums like UNC, University of Virginia, Kentucky, anywhere in the SEC, things like that. Something like that would be super cool. Of course it could just be the college student talking in me.

Dierks did a "Back to College" mini-tour of SEC schools to support his Country & Cold Cans EP back in August. I went to the show at USC and it was insane. Obviously his was a much lower scale (I think he played to about 3-5,000 on average but it was the week school started back and peeps were going crazy.
Actually, now that I think about it, Dierks plays a lot of shows at colleges - Tennessee Tech just had him play, and he played at Applachian State last year.
I definitely think your idea has merit, I think it's a cost thing. A lot of times the schools have very limited budgets with which to recruit talent, and I don't know how the stadiums factor into that.

I mean I figure these schools have 40,000, 50,000 even 100,000 seat stadiums that they use maybe eight times a year. Why do they have to be empty 357 nights of the year? Someone make me president of colleges everywhere.

Unless the stadium is the property of the city/town they're located in, it's probably up to the school to foot the bill for the artists. Tennessee Tech got Dierks who came in #2 in a student vote. Eric was #1 - and they flat out couldn't afford to pay him to play.
I'm not disagreeing with you, so I don't want you to think that. It's like race tracks - they sit empty like 350 days a year because they're so big literally all they're good for is racing and racing-related events. But schools only have so much money to spend on artists, and an artist like Jason Aldean or Eric Church is going to command a much higher price tag than a Jake Owen or Dierks Bentley currently does.

Saw Carrie at the Staples Center last night.
If she's coming to your town or to a town near you, GO. She works the crowd, the stage set-up is fantastic, her setlist is perfect, and it all gets completely tossed aside by how amazing her voice is. Even when you try to focus on the animations behind her on the stage, her voice still draws you back.
Flawless concert. Go see it!

I'm a big fan of Carrie's. I've been a fan ever since her first tryout on AI. Her voice is awesome and her personality has always seemed genuine. I don't know why She doesn't win female vocalist every year. In my opinion, no other female comes close to her in vocal quality, control, pitch, and range. Popularity contest, sure, but not based on vocal merit. There are some times that her vibrato seems a little over the top (like on "My last name")...but I look past it because it isn't consistent like say...Toby Keith? lol. I need to go see her in concert. I don't go to many concerts to be honest. In fact, I can count on one hand the concerts I've seen in my lifetime other than Eric. Don Williams, The Statler Brothers, and JD Sumner and the Stamps about sums it up for me.

Saw the Moore, Moore, Church concert last night in Roanoke. Church has got the art of the live act down.

I have been to many concerts over the last few years, but I'm really excited about this new monthly concert series they are doing at Murray State University where I got to school in Kentucky. It is a monthly acoustic show with upcoming country artists in an intimate setting. It is usually only about a 100 people and you actually sit on the main stage with the artist in a theater we have on campus. For students tickets are only $7 and I just picked up Greg Bates tickets for this coming Tuesday. Being we are only 2 hours from Nashville they have gotten some great partnerships with record labels to bring these small upcoming acts here.

I love Greg Bates! That's awesome, I hope you have a great time. Just got back from the concert. Thought Greg Bates was great and has some great vocals. Liked the more traditional sound to him. Also interacted with the crowd great. Was lucky enough that him as well as is producer, manager, and agent held a mediated panel discussion before hand for music business students. They called him "special" and made it sound like Big Machine is working to make him the next big thing. Also got to ask them about the new Billboard charts and the implications on him since he is more traditional sounding. Greg basically said he was really disappointed when he heard about it. His management said they don't know what the effect will be and said they care about mediabase.

I am going to see Dierks Bentley for the first time (cough carriekins cough) at the Iowa State Fair on August 11! Justin Moore is opening...I wish it were someone else but oh well, I think I can endure Justin. I'm super excited about seeing Dierks but the other 2 country concerts might be better. Toby Keith has Kip Moore opening for him on Thursday August 15, and Gary Allan opens for Alan Jackson to close out the fair on Sunday the 18th. I couldn't go to any of those dates though and I REALLY like Dierks so I got tickets with my family, even though Dierks' opener is by FAR the worst (Kip and Gary are awesome, and WAY better than Justin, imo). Speaking of Justin Moore though...I see he's headlining a 57-stop tour later this year with Randy Houser and Josh Thompson joining him.

Have you ever seen Justin in concert? I know a lot of people aren't fans of his music, but I think he puts on a great show. Seen him open for Miranda and seen him at the Kentucky State Fair last year as a free concert. Was actually one of the best free concerts I've seen, he had a capacity crowd of 22,000 and came out in the middle of the stands at one point to sing.
