I adore her "indie" sound. I always knew she had potential to be more than a teen pop flash in the pan. :) Wild Hope was a huge step forward, and based on reviews, Amanda Leigh will further her career as a musician. Usually I love when pop stars get more serious and drop the commercial ish, but Mandy's new stuff never did it for me. I didn't mind some of the tracks on coverage but I didn't really like Wild Hope and I'm liking Amanda Leigh even less. I feel a like a fool for saying it because I hate when a pop artist does something different but everyone just whinges for the radio hits back, but in all honesty I love Mandy's trashy pop. I'm a big fan of her best of LOL

I've enjoyed her new sound but I wish she could somehow strike a balance between the "indie" sound she's going after and something radio would at least be willing to play more than once.

Her new song is poppy though and could find radio play, the only reason it won't is because it's a hot mess. Cheese-o-rama

It was very different than her usual sound, and to see a former pop star taking risks like that makes it seem like she's serious about her music. She isn't in it for the fame, or the money, she's doing it because music is what she loves. People grow as artists, and the more risks they take, the better. Instead of sticking to one generic sound for their whole career, it's very interesting seeing artists branch out from the sound they are comfortable with.

I agree with you 100 percent and I never for one second though that Mandy was in it for the fame and money. I just don't think her new sound is any good lol, except for the title track "Wild Hope". But that's just personal taste, I have nothing against her and I agree with everything you said

She'd rather do this folk-pop-rock thing despite it not being that much of a success, then the fluff pop that might be in. That is exactly why I think she is a real artist.

Lol I know she prefers this or else she wouldn't do it! I just meant I personally don't like it and prefer everything Coverage and before.

The show was pretty cool. Ben Lee was her opening act, and he was funny, performing songs NOT on his "label" album that's due out next Tues, saying some jokes, and even playing a song from his iPod of a new-favorite band ("When I Died" by The Thermals).
Meanwhile, Mandy looked gorgeous as usual (brown, shoulder-length hair). She performed a lot of songs from her upcoming album, one cover (mentioned above), and two past songs ("Wild Hope" and "Candy"). I wasn't sure if her that was indeed her hubby in the front row (maybe he was backstage), but she was great. A lot of the new material is a lot more mellow as compared to the "Wild Hope" album, with perhaps "I Could Break Your Heart..." and "Fern Dell" being the only two up-to-mid-tempos.

She looks like a lesbian.
Anyway, on the old Mandy vs. new Mandy debate, I far prefer the new Mandy. "Candy" was fun, and I loved "Crush," but I was never a fan of teen pop Mandy. I loved Wild Hope.

"Wild Hope" was definitely a step in the right direction for her, no matter how tentative and clueless that step might have been. I fully expect her to improve on this new album though (surely she's learned a thing or two from Ryan?), and I will look into this album when it comes out.

I'm REALLY surprised she still performs 'Candy', considering she's renounced her old pop music time and again. Does she remix it at all, or does she do the actual single version? I'm curious.

I love Old Mandy and New Mandy, but let's face it... Mandy doesn't have the type of personality to carry those kinds of songs anymore. "Wild Hope" was my favorite album of 2008. I still listen to songs off that album regularly. That said I can't wait for her new album to come out. It'll be the first album I buy this year.

It's probably good that she still performs "Candy."
Some people have bashed P!nk for not performing stuff from her first album anymore.

During her "Wild Hope" tour, Mandy was performing "Candy" as a stripped-down, blues version. Like this: However, during the Largo show, she had the string quartet and a live band, but it still had that signature instrumental. Singing it that way makes it sound so dirty, LOL. She's a freak!

"Pocket Philosopher" leaked and it has to be the best track I have heard thus far. It sounds a little bit like a musical song, but it's pretty epic. She emotes the song brilliantly. Fucking epic. Wow. I'm seriously fucking impressed.
Sorry for the cussing. I felt it was necessary in this case.

I think the first part of the Mandy write-up is a bit unfair. Aside from So Real and I Wanna Be With You, all of her albums have been very well-received from a critical standpoint. Basically saying that her music career has been a joke is kind of uncalled for. That picture sure is hot, though.

Just listened on imeem.. thanks for the link! This how I rank them...
Everblue Love To Love Me Back Nothing Everything Merrimack River Song About Home Bug I Could Break Your Heart Any Day Of The Week Fern Dell Pocket Philosopher Indian Summer
Every song on the album is absolutely beautiful, but "Everblue" is just classic. Really surprised. It's just perfect. The whole album is just perfection. Wow. Best album I've heard all year.
I do think she should've introduced everyone to the new album with "Love To Love Me Back" as the first single. It's beautiful and quite catchy.
And once again "Everblue" is just amazing.
IMO...

This album is so creative - musically, vocally, lyrically. Such an amazing step forward for her - I view this as her debut album. Coverage hinted at her musical interests, Wild Hope showed us what she wanted to do, and Amanda Leigh is a declaration of her new path.
I really hope she can get the respect she deserves with this record because it is seriously fantastic.

So after an initial listen, what are everyone's favorite tracks on the album? Mine are Everblue, Pocket Philosopher and Nothing Everything.
