Well actually the original statement I was disagreeing with in the first place was that "Justin started the trend [of this new pop-sound]" which in my opinion would be false.
Timbaland's sound has been reproduced with so many artists by now that for me personally it has really taken away from any brilliance FS/LS had when it first came out. I guess that's where I'm coming from in that Timbaland seems to be the only factor in all of these similiarities between songs. You hear about people wanting to work with Timbaland, not Timbaland and JT. Timbaland just seems to take JT with him wherever he goes at this point though. But I respect your opinion too as I used to somewhat share it back in late 2006.

Lets comare the singles... SexyBack vs Gimme More: They are both good tracks, but SexyBack became a pop culture phenomenon and made Timbaland the hottest producer on the block (i know Promiscuous came out first, but SexyBack was more recognized as a Timbaland original. 'Gimme More' is a good song, but now it's mostly associated with that VMA performance. My Love vs. Piece of Me: The winner here is 'My Love,' another great song by Timberlake. The melody is just right. Britneys song is like 'Overprotected' and 'My Prerogative' put together. It was nothing new for her. What Goes Around vs. Break the Ice: I will give this one to Britney. It is a brilliant track and should've served as the 1st single, but mistakes happen. To me WGACA was the blandest single released off of his album. Nothing but a Cry Me A River copycat, and i hate copycats. As for the rest....we have 'Summer Love' 'Lovestoned' 'Chop Me Up' 'Sexy Ladies' which are all more superior than 'Radar' 'Hot As Ice' 'Get Naked' and 'Toy Soldier'. Although 'Radar' is really the best of these rests...the other ones drag down the album. I agree that 'Hot As Ice' isn't all that great but then neither is 'Chop Me Up'. 'Get Naked' is actually a sleeper hit track IMO, a lot of people seem to like it a lot and it's a bit unique. Same with "Toy Soldier". "Summer Love" and "LoveStoned" are both above average pop but they really cover no new ground at all or standout in any way. If "Gimme More" had been released during ITZ it would have been huge and even still the phrases "gimme more" and "it's britney bitch" caught on without the song being a massive hit. SexyBack is almost as great as GM for me but I like the hook in Britney's song more. "My Love" I agree is better than POM. And, well, BTI is an obvious winner over CMAR pt. 2.

SexyBack vs Gimme More My Love vs. Piece of Me: As for the rest....we have 'Summer Love' 'Lovestoned' 'Chop Me Up' 'Sexy Ladies' which are all more superior than I don't agree at all. Gimme More sounds much better to me then Sexyback does. I love the lyrics, Britney's performance, the production and most of all the sound and quality of the song. Hell the "It's Britney Bitch" line alone shows more charisma, attitude and personality then Justin's entire album. Spears' has always been the more charismatic singer even back in the Nsync days critics said Britney had more personality in her songs and was able to emote more in the pop genre then her boy band boy friend. Furthermore Justin doesn't sound believable at all when he tries to be sexy. Yes it has it's catchy beats and it's hooks but it has nothing on Gimme More. Britney is perhaps the most skilled pop artist when it comes to delivering a good hook and her seductive chant in Gimme More is no different. Piece of Me is a pop/dance master piece. The lyrics are aced, the beat is amazing and the digitalized voice is also a great tool used. Spears performance ranges from disinterest to anger to sadness and even the music itself in the breakdown comes to a sympathetic sweeter tone and then turns back to a harsh grit it was before. Piece of Me is a brilliant song that deserves a grammy. It was brilliant produced, performed and written. It also shows introspective insight into Britney's life and it's much more personal then "My Love". I will say My Love has a nice tune and it is a sweet love song but it does nothing in terms of depth, influence and insight for the artist. This song is like Britney's biography or mission statement. It's a staple for Spears catalog and is a brilliant song that details her life. In that respect it is much more then Overprotected or My Prerogative. Britney has finally found her niche and it's a brilliant song. My Love doesn't show that at all. Chop Me Up and Sexy Ladies are horrid songs that show no character, personality or soul to Timberlake. He doesn't even sound interested in his own material i'll add all of his lame love songs to the mix as well: Until The End of Time, Another Song All Over Again and Losing My Way are all uninspired, tired songs that don't sound personal or reflective in anyway. Radar, Heaven On Earth, Get Naked, Freakshow, Toy Soldier, Ooh Ooh Baby and Why Should I Be Sad are all much fresher, solid and prime cuts from the album. Toy Soldier alone demolishes CMU and SL just on originality, versatility and sound alone. It sounds like nothing else done before. Summer Love and Love Stoned are quality works. However I don't think they even begin to compare to Freakshow, Get Naked or Radar. Especially since the songs on Britney's new album all sound different, experimental and fresh. Justin just pimped the synths until they couldn't play anymore.

Justin's album was a bit too Timbaland for me... although, What Goes Around.... and that one other ballad are really great tracks...
This would be a better poll if it was up against Nelly Furtado's "Loose"..... She did a better job in incorporating her style into Timbo's sound...

However I don't think they even begin to compare to Freakshow, Get Naked or Radar. Especially since the songs on Britney's new album all sound different, experimental and fresh. Justin just pimped the synths until they couldn't play anymore. Oh my GOD! Hold up please! What you just said was probably the funniest stuff I've heard in a while. I really don't even know where to begin. Okay lets start... 'Spears has always had more charisma'-Oh really? That's very odd considering i remember that people used to always complain that Britney Spears was always too robotic during her prime. She was fabricated, told what to say, and told what to sing, and told not to have an opinion. The thing that kept her on top was NOT her Charisma, it was her innocent but not that innocent game that she was playing with the public. She rode that act out for 4 years and people were buying it. Then when the 'In the Zone' era came about...it became pretty clear that Britney starting losing the fascination of the public. Getting trashed for her Onyx Hotel tour which was probably a big let down for her performance wise. Meanwhile Justin Timberlake was always getting acclaimed for having the most charisma out of any of the teen acts. It's not even about his songs. Him as a person...he has so much charisma and that is his #1 charm. He can go on stage, make you laugh, make you dance, make you sing, with no direction whatsoever. Britney can follow a teleprompter and still screw up badly. 'Britney is the most skilled pop artist when it comes to delivering a hook?'-Really? If a pop artist was that skilled at delivering catchy hooks, you'd think they'd have more hits under their belt wouldn't you? Even at Britneys prime, she was no Rihanna when it came to punching out hit after hit. She's had a handful of hits...for an artist who's suppsoed to be known for delivering catchy hooks...that's sure ain't a lot of hits. The reason for that my friend, is because you are wrong. She's not known for her catchy hooks. As i said above, she was known for something totally different. She was known to play mind games with the media, she just used her music to hide behind that fact. The last 5 years of her career with not that much music, that's why now it's gotten worse. 'Piece of Me is a pop/dance master piece. It was brilliant produced, performed and written'.-This quote by FAR takes the cake. 'Piece of Me' a masterpiece? Are you freaking kidding me? You want a pop masterpiece? Then you need to look quite far awar from 'Piece of Me' darling. Britneys delivery on this song is nowhere near Brilliant, in fact it is barely passable. She does not switch from emotion to emotion like how you claim. In fact, she sounds like she's being a hypocrite in this song because it's no secret that she's used the media to get further in her career. This song will only be remembered by her fans, and will not serve as a big part of her back catalog (the fact that you used that word is funny too considering Britney doesn't even have a big back catalog of hits). And as for the production, would Britneys management had even considered working with the producers they worked with on 'Blackout' had they not been used by Justin a year earlier? I really doubt that. As for the rest of the 'Blackout' album, again you are giving Britney too much credit. At one point last year, she couldn't even put on a wig correctly when she had to perform, do you really think she was anywhere remotely close to being involved with the production of her album? Do you really think she picked any producers? Do you really think she wrote any lyrics? Do you really really believe that she even wanted to make an album? The only thing Britney did on 'Blackout' was show up to the studio, do her part (which probably isn't much since she wasn't capable of much last year), and then the producers spent months and months trying to 'fix it'. Please don't give credit to Britney for making a 'brilliant album.' This album had nothing to do with her. It was nothing more than a record label trying to prove that a fallen pop start hadn't fallen. The plan backfired compeletely.

If a pop artist was that skilled at delivering catchy hooks, you'd think they'd have more hits under their belt wouldn't you? I don't agree. lol. I don't remember critics criticizing Britney for being robotic. I know that in the early 00's when the grunge rock/pop girls like Michelle Branch, Avril, Pink ect. became popular was when critics starting saying that teen pop was fabricated and that pop in general didn't seem to level off to artistic expression. This criticism was no more or less then all pop artists go through. I don't see that as a big criticism. Since pop in general during that time period (and previous time periods as well) was more about teen fun, ect. It wasn't meant to be taken serious. Critics did attack her for being "shallow" and "fabricated". Just like every other pop act. However none of them during that period criticized her emotive abilities nor did they comment on her personality. That didn't come until later on when Britney began to become more sexual. Many musical critics actually praised her music calling her a pioneer of the late 90's pop trend. She was compared to Debbie Gibson, New Kids On The Block. Just look at the reviews for studio albums: ...Baby One More Time has its share of well-crafted filler, but the singles, combined with Britney's burgeoning charisma, make this a pretty great piece of fluff. Hell Rollingstone alone write an entire critic for the album "Oops..." which details her persona and character in each song comparing her to: "Britney is a solo starlet working the girl-group shoop shoop, and if she's no Dusty Springfield yet, she's up there with Lesley Gore, Connie Francis and Claudine Clark." "Oops! . . . I Did It Again is fantastic pop cheese, with much better song-factory hooks than 'N Sync or BSB get." "but that brutal growl is all Britney, articulating a violently ambivalent sexual confusion her audience can relate to, kicking and screaming for the right to figure out her desires before the world decides for her. She's in the dressing room, trying on various styles of adult sexuality that don't quite fit yet, and her fans know how that feels." "Britney's demand for satisfaction is complex, fierce and downright scary, making her a true child of rock & roll tradition." This alone states that Britney was considered a charismatic and emotive singer from the get go. Much more so then her peers. I don't see how Britney getting two top twenty singles in 04' shows that the people weren't interested in her. If anything that shows people want more of her. Britney has always been a sufficent seller. Just because she doesn't get major radio play doesn't mean she isn't in demand. The fact that she is still putting out platinum selling singles alone shows that people are still interested in buying her music. This is all with no promotion mind you. The Onyx Hotel Tour was successful so I don't know what your talking about their. Critics may have not liked sexual Britney but that's always been a form of controversy since she was a teen idol back in 99'. Justin has NOT been acclaimed for his performance vocally. Just look at his reviews for Nsync and his own albums: sounding suspiciously like a low-rent, American Take That, the Orlando, FL-based *NSYNC came bursting out of roller rinks across the U.S. in the spring of 1998 with their eponymous debut. " *NSYNC don't have the charisma or tunes of the Spice Girls or All Saints, nor do they have a visionary like Gary Barlow or a sex symbol like Robbie Williams in the group. " " *NSYNC still can seem a little ordinary, lacking a truly charismatic punch à la Britney or Christina" "he's uneasy as a suave, mature loverman, particularly because much of his stance is borrowed directly (and rather improbably) from Michael Jackson." "he's still too much of a showbiz kid -- all technique and surface, not much substance. His falsetto may be smooth, but it's utterly without character, which unfortunately describes the songs too: pretty on the surface, but devoid of memorable hooks" I believe I proved my point. Britney has always been skilled when delivering hooks and emoting the meaning to her songs. She knows exactly which roles to play what to emphasize and embellish or strip to tailor to the song. She may not be the best technical singer but she is one of pops bests when it comes to emoting a feeling, deliver a hook or a catchy phrase.

Agree with Legend here, on pretty much everything.
In ten years FSLS will be considered a classic album of it's time/genre. Blackout won't.

Gotta go with FS/LS. It works much better as an album than Blackout. The interludes are done very nicely as well and keep the album flowing. Blackout's good, but some of the songs could be in any order (aside from GM because of the opening line) and the last song and it wouldn't make too much of a difference imo. As for Classics, Sexyback is looking to be the Physical of our time. It won't get much recurrent airplay in the decades to come, but I can see it being used in TV shows, commercials, etc. which will keep it alive. I can't see the Blackout singles sticking around, they've all been overshadowed by her. Another problem is that on most of Blackout, Britney is a vessel for the producers to project their sound, so while it may be strong, they're not definitive songs for her.

I don't think you guys are going to change each other's opinions, so we might as well move on. My point was to show that Britney has been favored by critics for her charisma and personality on her records. Something Legend completely denied. Most of the critism in fact comes from Britney's "airy" voice which critics have been rather harsh on her for. He also made the blanket statement that Justin was always the preferred pop act when it comes to personality, charisma and emotive abilities. Which simply isn't true. Justin and JC Chasez didn't get praise for their vocals until their very last album in N'Sync and even to this day Justin is still called out by critics for being cold, calculating and contrived in his personality and emotive abilities. So he isn't this critical darling like Legend is proclaiming. Their are actually many critics who praise BSB, CA, BS and SG more so then NSYNC. As seen above. They have called him an impersonator of MJ and Prince.

And Britney has been called an impersonator of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Tiffany, even Debbie Gibson at times. To say that critics have been harsher on Justin is not true at all, if anything he comes out slighty above Britney. If I selectively picked quotes from different magazines, I could make it seem like Justin was the greatest musician that ever lived (obviously not true). I understand that YOU think Justin is calculated, cold, has no emotion etc. but showing me a few quotes from a few magazines proves nothing. You could do that for any artist.

Only on pulse will you ever find an album that spawned 3 #1 singles and sold 8 million copies losing to an album that was released by an artist going through a public meltdown and sold 2 million copies. More commercial success does not mean it's better - on any music board. I choose Blackout, but I think both albums are pretty fantastic.

Successful albums are sometimes shunned in terms of less successful ones, people being able to credit merit rather than sales. In any case, FSLS is the better album, that just happens to be the more successful one too.

God, FS/LS by miles.
That album will be remembered for a long time. Only Britney fans will remember that ever Blackout existed.
This board is so heavily biased toward female pop stars, though.

And Britney has been called an impersonator. To say that critics have been harsher on Justin is not true at all, but showing me a few quotes from a few magazines proves nothing. You could do that for any artist. There are going to be comparisons for all types of music. People with big vocals will be called out for channelling Carey or Houston, people with big sexual charisma on records will be called out for being a Jackson or a Madge, people with sqeaky clean personalities will be called out for being Gibsons and Tiffany's. They're are going to be comparisons regardless. My point was Britney has never been called out for being lifeless on her records. Yes she has gotten criticism for being overtly sexual. However critics have always praised her for her personality or charisma on her records say she had a vocal presence. I could find more quotes but it's kind of pointless. My point was to show that critics haven't always seen Justin as a critical darling like Legend says he was. Nsync was looked at as being behind the curve alot of the time. Like I said before it wasn't until Celebrity that critics started giving Justin and JC their dues. Even when Justin came out with his debut album as a solo artist their were several critics who said Justin's charisma was more or less to be desired. Even now critics still say Justin's latest effort felt forced rather then a natural progression. But yes you could find a rave and a rant anywhere. My point was just to show that Justin wasn't as well recieved as Legend protests he was. He still has his detractors today.
