And how is she meant to prove that she deserves BNA? If Carrie Underwood can win I see no reason Leona can't. Both are talented singers first and foremost, and they have both written bits and pieces. I think you will find that was "Dave Clark Five" ;)

In my smallest opinion, Leona has no chance of winning BNA. She definitely is a Best New Singer, but she hasn't been yet to prove that she deserves Best New Artist. I agree, If there was a BNS category she would win. The thing is if not Leona then who ? Sara Bareilles ?

BNA doesn't have to be the one who was commercially successful and boomed up on chart during eligibility period. Seriously, it is all up to how Grammy people think.

I really don't think Mariah will be nominated for any of the major categories (RY, SY, AY). We'll see though. Alicia Keys will be nominated in all of those categories though. Alicia will get a nom for AOTY, but she'd need "Like You'll Never See Me Again" to get nominated in SOTY and ROTY, since "No One" was up at last year's Grammys. It'd be tricky for her to get that song in there since it wasn't as big a hit as "No One," at least on the pop charts.

She will be on her fourth single by then. Teenage Love Affair (and hopefully Tell You Somethin' - which would be the best contender) will also be in contention.

I'm thinking current chart-toppers Coldplay & Lil Wayne could both be nominated for Album of the Year. I also think In Rainbows can get nominated...possibly As I Am
Rap Album should be fun...Lil Wayne, Flobots, Jay-Z, Nas, The Game, Lupe Fiasco, Snoop Dogg, TI, Ludacris, Missy - I think Tha Carter will come out on top.
As I mentioned earlier, the R&B categories are going to be CRAZY: Chris Brown, Neyo, Usher, John Legend, Robin Thicke, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Estelle, Erykah Badu - any R&B favorites that aren't gonna be eligible this year?? INSANE
Coldplay should have an easy time with Rock Album and Radiohead with Alt Album. I'd also love to see N.E.R.D. get nominated for Alternative Album.
Pop Female Vocal will have Love Song, Bleeding Love, Tatoo, Pocketful of Sunshine, Take A Bow, Underneath, I Kissed A Girl, See You Again. I could see Chris sending Take You Down to the R&B categories and have With You & Forever at Pop Male & Dance Recording...or WY at R&B and Forever at either Pop or Dance. Dance Recording could potentially have Chris Brown, Britney Spears & Rihanna all at once. Pop Duo/Group should have Coldplay, OneRepublic, Danity Kane, Gnarls Barkley. Pop Collabo have 2 locks - 4 Minutes & No Air.
Record/Song of the year could see...Bleeding Love, No Air, Lollipop, Superstar, Viva la Vida, 4 Minutes, Last Name, Disturbia, Handlebars, Apologize, Mercy etc

I think Viva La Vida would dominate the nods. For Song/Record, I can see Apologize, Bleeding Love and Viva La Vida getting the nods. BNA - Leona, Adele (maybe), OneRepublic...

Taylor Swift was nominated Last Year. I wouldn't be surprised Miley gets nominated, since Breakout is her first Miley Album

who actually votes at the grammys? The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The nominations are determined by members voting only in their field of specialization; Songwriters select the Song of the Year noms, the engineers and producers control Record of the Year, performers handle Best New Artist, etc. After the noms, the entire Academy is eligible to vote in each category for the winners, but they only get to vote in 8 categories of their selection. The Producer and Engineer wing of the Academy has the most voting power, they're 6,000 members strong, which is why the awards so often go to the technically slickest product, as opposed to the most artistically accomplished.

Does anybody think Blackout and Hard Candy will score nods for Best Electronic/Dance Album? Depends how it's submitted...if it's submitted for it yes...but if submitted for pop it can get that also. Madonna and JT will for sure get the pop collaboration.

Do you guys think it's possible for Britney to get at least 1 nomination this year? I definitely think it's possible for Piece of Me to get a Dance Recording or Pop Female nod. The Grammy's have given her a few nods - BOMT, OIDIA, Overprotected & Toxic have all been nominated - that's 1 per album. Plus didn't Britney the album get nominated?

Viva La Vida definitely has a nom in the bag (and I think it's probably going to win at this point)

Anyone want to take bets that they screw up "Record of the Year" for the 8th consecutive year?

Anyone want to take bets that they screw up "Record of the Year" for the 8th consecutive year? The only years I think were really bad were 2002, 2005, and worse of all, last year. But at least I expected the outcome last year. I hate when songs that have little mainstream success win the big awards. Not saying I'm some super music listener, but it really irks me when songs that I've never even heard of, let alone have an opinion of, win. There are other categories for random songs by big name artists. Reserve the Big Four for people/songs/albums that were ACTUALLY THE SONG/RECORD/ALBUM/ARTIST OF THE YEAR. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?! [/rant]

Exactly what I was thinking xD, if Britney is nominated, it'll only be in 1 and only 1 category and for me Piece Of Me is the best candidate for that. Yes, Britney (album) was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album ;)

Anyone want to take bets that they screw up "Record of the Year" for the 8th consecutive year? I think Rehab & Boulevard of Broken Dreams were great deserving picks. Both songs were truly the record of their years - great songs by high-profile artists that conquered charts/airwaves/tabloids etc. I think they REALLY misstepped with the Ray Charles win and Don't Know Why...and I think Fallin should've won over U2. If I had my pick to select the nominees, choosing the best and most important songs of the year... 2001 - Lady Marmalade, Fallin, Don't Tell Me, Drops of Jupiter, Drive 2002 - No More Drama, All You Wanted, A Thousand Miles, Hero, In The End 2003 - Beautiful, Crazy In Love, Clocks, Unwell, Hey Ya, Lose Yourself 2004 - My Immortal, 99 Problems, Yeah, This Love, Toxic 2005 - Since U Been Gone, We Belong Together, Gold Digger, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Mr. Brightside 2006 - One, Promiscuous, Crazy, Dani California, My Love 2007 - No One, Welcome to the Black Parade, Rehab, Umbrella, Stronger 2008 so far - Bleeding Love, No Air, Viva la Vida, Disturbia, Apologize
