9 KELLIE PICKLER BNA/SBMG NASHVILLE 43,454 -- KELLIE PICKLER
At least she'll get her second # 1 album on the country charts, I just wish the total had been higher because the album is really good, I love it!!

okay, so where has this song charted as of now...? It reached a new peak of #25 in its 20th week this week. I honestly don't think this song is going to get much higher. For her sake, I hope the label has single #2 ready to go, because they're going to need it any time now.

While I think she's as cute as a button, she is reaching Julie Roberts status. All hype and no bang. She is a decent singer but other than I Wonder, she hasn't really impressed the country music playing public or me. Given the amount of press she gets, you would think she was an A-list country hit making machine but she's not. Will she ever be? I would love to see her get some hits but what else does she need to do?

I'd go even further to say that "Break Down Here" was Julie's "I Wonder".

I think Kellie is doing just fine. She has outshined/outsold many of her fellow AI contestants(Josh Gracin, Kristy Lee, Bucky, Katharine, ect) I think she will get a few more top 20 singles and I hope BDOYL is a top 10 smash. But I really hope Kellie released "DYKHMILY" I love that song, it's my favorite ever of Kellie.

I think this is wrong because Julie Roberts didn't even crack the top 15, Kellie already had 3 top 20's and one more this coming chart, she's clearly sold more than Roberts and Roberts didn't have a standing ovasion at the CMA's, in fact her "Last to Never Know" was the worst performance of the 2005/2006 show... Pickler is doing her thing and if she keeps doing what she's doing she' ll be around...

i don't think Kellie is ALL hype...I just think that poor promotion and weak single choices have affected her impact. I wish to God they released "Small Town Girl" and "DYKHMILY" on the first album and that they chose something better than "Beautiful" for the new one....its like the weakest single on a fantastic album!

I think "Best Days" will be a big hit for her. It's already had a few hundred spins and it was Top 10 on iTunes Country for the first couple weeks after the album came out.
"Rocks Instead of Rice" has gotten a lot of good reviews also. And I think it'll be a hit as well. Especially if it's the follow-up single to "Best Days" and is able to keep the momentum going if "Best Days" is the hit I think it's going to be. And radio stations should be paying a little more attention to her at that point.

Poor promotion? She has been on the cover of every magazine imaginable. She has been everywhere. I think the music speaks for itself. I think it's because, while everyone else is behind her, BNA is ignoring her just like they're ignoring every other act on their roster not named Kenny Chesney, so she's not getting the radio push she should get. I also wonder why Martina didn't jump on this song. Maybe because she thought she already had cut it?

I would love to see her get some hits but what else does she need to do? You have some valid points. Truthfully, if not for the exposure from the American Idol machine this girl would be nowhere. She is an average singer kinda cute but she gets more press and still her sales are low.I did like I wonder(she has a sweet gentle sound in it) but her cheesy dumb act and off key singing is really annoying.

I think it's because, while everyone else is behind her, BNA is ignoring her just like they're ignoring every other act on their roster not named Kenny Chesney, so she's not getting the radio push she should get. I don't see much evidence that BNA pushes Kenny all that hard -- I don't remember the last time I saw a trade ad for Kenny, for example. He doesn't really need the push, he is basically a core artist for country radio and his songs are practically automatic top-10s and maybe even top-5s, aren't they? I saw a few trade ads for Kellie when this single was launched, and haven't noticed her getting less support in that respect than, for example, the Lost Trailers or Craig Morgan, who are also on BNA. Overall, I don't think Kellie has suffered from "poor promotion." She has a stronger TV presence than most country artists and a growing Internet presence being at least partially facilitated by some cross-promotion with Taylor Swift (which will no doubt become more significant with the release of "Best Days of Your Life." I do have to disagree with bamafan2102 on one point, though -- I don't think Kellie has seen too many magazine covers, at least not mainstream national magazine covers. I think Kellie has operated somewhat in the shadow of Carrie and Taylor in radio programmers' eyes while lacking the critical buzz of someone like Miranda Lambert. That, coupled with a voice that sounds more tinny recorded than it does live, is why neither "I Wonder" nor "Things That Never Crossed a Man's Mind" fared as well on radio as they did on callout, in my view. But to bring things back to the current single -- "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" is faring better on radio than it is on the callout chart (where it is at #30 this week, with less than 50% Total Positive response). "Red High Heels" also outperformed callout (it didn't make the top-20 on R&R Callout America). I think another issue for Kellie is a current lack of coherence in establishing her "brand." It seems like Kellie has moved away somewhat from the goofy but sincere image that carried her through her debut album cycle, but I don't think anything coherent has replaced that musically (which I mentioned in reviewing her album) or in terms of image. As far as image, I'm still trying to understand why an old-school black & white Hollywood glam look was chosen for her album cover. I don't think that fits with the way Kellie has described her album or the lead single. I could see that cover if "Lucky Girl" had been the lead single, but it doesn't make sense to me otherwise.

I saw a few trade ads for Kellie when this single was launched, and haven't noticed her getting less support in that respect than, for example, the Lost Trailers or Craig Morgan, who are also on BNA. That's the point. BNA doesn't seem to give a rip about their artist roster. Kenny seems to get by with everything hitting #3 or higher, while acts like The Lost Trailers have to fight their way up the charts. Have you noticed that ever since Lonestar dropped in 2006, The Lost Trailers have been the only BNA act besides Kenny to score a Top 10 hit? That seems a little unbalanced. I do have to disagree with bamafan2102 on one point, though -- I don't think Kellie has seen too many magazine covers, at least not mainstream national magazine covers. Case in point. She's not on every third cover of Country Weekly like Kenny is. I agree about the "in the shadow" argument, but really, is Kellie's lack of singing skill that more obvious than Kenny, who flattens the hell out of his voice in the studio and always sounds sick live? I think another issue for Kellie is a current lack of coherence in establishing her "brand." It seems like Kellie has moved away somewhat from the goofy but sincere image that carried her through her debut album cycle, but I don't think anything coherent has replaced that musically (which I mentioned in reviewing her album) or in terms of image. I agree with you on that. I'm not big on her goofy side, but her first three songs all worked well (even if "I Wonder" went way against the goofy personality, it was still a strong song). DYKYB seems to be just a flat piece of girly country pop, and judging from the reviews I've seen for this album, the rest of Kellie Pickler seems to be along that same line. It seems like every female in country music wants to be a bland blonde these days.

Kellie is doing just fine! She is always gonna be in Carrie & Taylor's shadow, but they get massive radio support, and have alot of pop crossover appeal. Kellie will never go 2x Platinum but if this album goes gold it will be quite a feat. Kellie did get helped from AI but so did Taylor, Katharine, Josh, Kimberley, Kristy, Elliot, ect and where are they? Taylor & Katharine the top 2 from Kellie's season both got cut from their lable so the AI "hype" wasn't enough to save them.

I don't quite get how this song stayed on the chart this week. It lost over 200k in AI, and I'm fairly certain that it also lost audience last week. In any case, it should be gone next week.
I agree that Kellie hasn't seemed to establish herself. I think the Julie Roberts comparison is a good one. A lot of hype, a gold record, but no major hits to back it up (although Kellie has had more radio success than Julie).

Hopefully they don't wait until the Christmas music starts to release "Best Days". They should have Kellie and Taylor (back-up vocals and guitar) perform it at the CMA's and release it right after. I've thought all along that was the only thing they would choose for to sing on the show, even if DYKYB hadn't peaked. They haven't announced all the performers yet have they?
"Best Days" on the chart would also give the album a big Christmas boost. Come on, BNA....

I wouldn't be concerned. It seems like this is done, so they should have plenty of time to get a follow-up out. Generally labels will release songs right up until Thanksgiving week before holding off until the new year.

But I have the feeling it'll be mid-November before they release it.

I loved the debut, but the second cd is so much better! "Beautiful" could have fit right onto the first cd real well, because it is "flat country pop", as you say. I mean, i like it, but there are some songs that are just way better on there that definitley could give her more of an edge if realesed, maybe thats what BNA is afraid of though, they think she won't sell if her stuff if it isn't in a certain format....

Kellie will be on 'Ellen' Wednesday to talk and perform.
I'll be very disappointed if they have her perform DYKYB. For one, it's officially dead on the charts now. So there's no point in promoting the song. And secondly, it's not the kind of song that makes people want to go out and buy an album. So its not really promoting that very well either.
Hopefully it'll be the debut of the new single.

"Beautiful" could have fit right onto the first cd real well, because it is "flat country pop", as you say. Like I said, though, the singles from her debut were hardly bad. "Red High Heels" and "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind" were fun confections, and "I Wonder" was excellent. I'm a little off-put by her "dumb blonde" image, and her voice isn't anything particularly great, so I wasn't exactly compelled to buy Small Town Girl. I still haven't yet found much that convinces me of her talent. She just comes off to me as young, cute, bubbly, and formulaic.
