I think David's album is going to be more male pop-rock, kinda of like a male "Breakaway", but maybe even more pop than that. Or a Gavin DeGraw-ish type of album, maybe? I just don't see him doing the Nickelback type of rock given his strengths and weaknesses IMO.

David Cook Sizzles With Record Chart Debuts image David Cook May 28, 2008, 2:15 PM ET Silvio Pietroluongo, N.Y.
Season seven "American Idol" champion David Cook will set a record for debut entries on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs tomorrow as 11 titles enter the former, while 14 songs jump on the download tally. The onslaught is led by a No. 3 Hot 100 start for his original recording "The Time of My Life," which shifts 236,000 downloads to easily take the No. 1 spot on Hot Digital Songs.
"Idol" runner-up David Archuleta lands three songs on both charts, led by his cover of John Lennon's "Imagine" (No. 36 Hot 100, No. 16 on Hot Digital Songs, 71,000).
Cook's takeover of the Hot 100 shatters the mark for debuts set by Miley Cyrus (as Hannah Montana) in the Nov. 11, 2006, issue, when she placed six new titles on the list. The 11 songs on the chart are the most in a week by any artist in the Nielsen Music era, which began in December 1991 when the chart converted to Nielsen BDS and Nielsen SoundScan data.
His haul also marks the most placements on the list since the Beatles charted 14 songs on the Hot 100 in the week of April 11, 1964.
The 14 tracks on Hot Digital Songs also gives Cook a record for debuts and total songs on that three-year-old chart, besting Hannah Montana's total output ( on the Nov. 11, 2006 chart, and Bon Jovi's six debuts in the May 19, 2007, issue.

Thanks for that info. It will be very interesting to see what direction his career goes in. I must say the more interviews I see, I just adore/admire him more and more. I have to agree with Music4aw, he is shaping up to be my second fav Idol, after Kelly. In fact, David reminds me alittle of Kelly as far as his down to earthness, and his hopes to make music that matters/substance. Let's see what happens once his album comes out and what RCA will do.

I can't wait to buy his album-- when is the release date?
I expect him to sound like a cross between Daughty/Nickelback, and My chemical Romance...he sounded just like Chad Kroeger when he performed Hero at the finale. I think he needs to write radio friendly pop/rock songs like Daughty-- with a touch of altrock maybe, to stand out. :)

Hi kcchica. :) Yep, he does remind me of Kelly in the ways you mentioned. I hope RCA doesn't saddle him with a lot of empty fluff songs, but I don't think that will happen. David seems to have a really solid sense of what he wants to do musically. I'm really looking forward to his album, and to tracking his career.

The newly minted "Idol" winner will record this summer. "American Idol" winner DAVID COOK will start recording his debut album over the summer with an eye for a fall release, reports Daily Variety. The 25-year-old champ will cut the album while on the road with the "American Idols Live! Tour 2008," which kicks off July 1 in Glendale, AZ (last year's winner JORDIN SPARKS' hometown) -- and hits such locales as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Detroit, Baltimore and Philadelphia before ending Sept. 13 in Tulsa, OK. Cook signed with 19 Recordings/RCA Records and is currently burning up the digital songs chart with 17 tracks in the top 100, a record for a solo artist. His first single, "The Time Of My Life," sold 236,000 digital tracks on iTunes in four days, sending it to No. 1 -- the best single debut of any "American Idol" since the second season. www.etonline.com/news/2008/05/62158/index.html

Here's an interview with TV Guide that David did last week. www.davidcooktheamericanidol.com/In every interview I've seen of "Cookie" since the AI finale, he comes across as a smart, thoughtful, genuinely humble and nice person. I think I'm going to really enjoy tracking his career. Thanks to Neally on the Kelly Clarkson thread for this link.

I think he will be a big success- and he is already, it seems. I never bought into that "a rock star will lose credibility if they win Idol" meme. It was always said by those who tried to "spin" their losses as if it was a good thing.

From OK MagazineDavid Cook is a major hottie. The main reason he's totally earned that status is because he would never classify himself that way-even when virtually every girl in the OK! office (and most of the guys!) lined up to snap a pic with the 25-year-old Idol winner when he stopped by yesterday. "I'm just a nerd who plays music who got lucky on a TV show," he said. (Yeah, one that makes us want to break out our dictionaries, stat!) OK!'s Oliver Coleman and I got a chance to chat it up with the newly crowned Idol, who kept up his spirits even though he was fighting off a cold. "I've gotten a little bit of sleep," he shared. Idol runner-up David Archuleta also put in an appearance (causing virtually every gal in the office to want to give him a big-sister hug!). "I learned so much from [David C.], just as a person and as a musician as well," Archuleta revealed. Just as David-mania ended, third-place Idol finalist Syesha Mercado sashayed in, her hair looking fiercer than ever! "David is remarkable; he really takes the time to connect with his fans," she said of Idol's winner. "I'm really happy for him." Your entire family was at the finale. How great was it to have all that support? My brothers are my bookends. I don't know if I would have been able to do this without either one of them. I'm happy to have my family be there for that, so I think from here on out, it's just a matter of trying to stop and embrace this for a minute. I've got a great family to help me do that. How is your brother Adam doing? He's doing great. How did you feel about your brother's illness being in the public eye?My brother's illness is his own, and I didn't want to make him deal with all of this on top of all of that. That was really my motivation going in, to keep it a private issue. I love him to death, and obviously I am behind him. It was just announced that your album will be out this fall. Have you been in any talks on what it will be like?I'm going to be involved in the writing process, but at the end of the day I just want a record with as many strong songs as possible. However that happens, I'm open to it. What's the theme of the music You write?Lyrically, I've always just written from a place of trying to take negative energy and turning it into a positive source. A lot of my songs revolve around "that girl." I really don't see any reason to reinvent the wheel now, just kind of keep on doing what I'm doing. There is a certain girl you've been spotted out with [TV Guide Channel host and Idol alum] Kimberly Caldwell. Are you officially off the market now?Kim and I went out on a date and had a good time. Past that, there's really not too much to say. If schedules warrant, we may hang out again. Are you getting started on your album right away?Yeah, I'm really excited I get to work with Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace because I'm a huge fan of that band. To be able to work with Raine is huge for me. How did that come about? He actually was really cool and reached out to me after I sang his song ["Innocent"], and we've managed to kind of correspond a couple of times with email, so it seems like there is a mutual respect, which is cool. Are you going to re-release your indie album, Analog Heart, or use any of the songs from there on your new record?I've actually submitted some of those songs to be used on this record. We're going to see where the vibe goes with the new stuff and see if they fit. As far as re-releasing, I don't think there are any talks right now. That record was great; I had a lot of fun making it, but I'd rather not dwell in the past. I think if the songs fit in with what I'm doing currently, great, but if not, that was just a moment in my life. www.okmagazine.com/blog/post/6997/Two-Idol-Davids-and-a-Syesha

He looked like Blake at his audition too. Yeah, he looked more like a emo punk rocker before - the sweater and tie outfit and I could've sworn he had a red streak in his hair? I think that's his original style before TPTB decided that they want him to have an edgier rocker look rather than an emo punk rocker look. Anyway, there's an article about him at the latest RS issue: www.rollingstone.com/news/story/209...ction=rate#rate

Honestly, the way the rock world likes to pump up its creds, you'd think they were Mozarts and Beethovens instead of mostly drugged out crazies, many of whom died early from OD's. Like any other field of human endeavor does periodically, the rock world could use fresh talent and a fresh perspective.
