Best mix I've heard of this is done by Garth Jensen, it's 120 BPM and he actually sped up the vocals - with GREAT success....very faithful to the album version, a nice classic-house mix. This contest kinda sucks because the Top 10 finalists aren't chosen based on talent at all, or how good the mix is -- just how many tone-deaf people they can get to mindlessly vote for them via Myspace or whatnot. There's some crappy-ass mixes that have way more votes than Garth's mix. Listen to it and vote for it here: www.indabamusic.com/submissions?page=2&short_name=mariah&sort=votes#submissions -- scroll to the bottom of the page, he's currently in 193rd place, out of about 1250 entries. Take a second to follow the link & vote - all you need is your email address for verification and who knows, maybe he'll make Top 10. Seriously a really REALLY nice mix.

Garth sounds like he could have used some help with the time stretch... but yeah, it's cute.

Already voted for yours earlier today. After hearing a bunch of uptempo/club-oriented mixes, I think yours is the best. :)

production is absolutely brilliant, vocal effects are great (esp. the extended note at like 4:00 or so) but I just can't get past the comatose slowing down of the vocals :(

Slowing the vocals on this track was really the only option. If you try speeding them up to the point shes tongue tied, you still only end up with a bpm of 120-125 which will not work for club play. Also I decided to slow it down because it is no more extreme than what was done to "Touch My Body" or "We Belong Together" or most other mixes for that matter. It is definately taking me some getting used to though to hear it at this speed!

Slowing the vocals on this track was really the only option. If you try speeding them up to the point shes tongue tied, you still only end up with a bpm of 120-125 which will not work for club play. on the contrary, I think the penduluum is beginning to swing the other way, and BPM's in dance clubs are getting slower and slower as the years go by. The disco days were 110 BPM, late 80's and early 90's of Frankie Knuckles mixes were a bit faster, maybe 114 BPM, mid-90's 124 BPM, and late 90's up to 130 BPM or so. In 2000 it wasn't unheard of for a TP or Hex mix to be 136, or even 140. Nowadays, 120 is no problem at all - most gigs I do I'll hover right around the 124-128 mark, give or take. On the other hand, I've always thought if you're going to slow down the vocals at least make the BPM's 138 or 140 (or more!) so the artist doesn't sound so asleep. That way a DJ can fit it in with their stuff like DJ Sammy Heaven, No Air (Nevins), DHT, etc and the "fast" set. Kinda like what Jack D. Elliot did with N-sync "It's Gonna Be Me" which was brilliant.
