^Well, you know what he means. The Dixie Chicks already had several albums under their belt before Fly, but they were still new to radio when "I Can Love You Better" came out. Eli Young Band is still new to radio as this is their second single, and "When It Rains" hardly got played outside Texas.

Ten Pound Hammer,
the Dixie Chicks were a new band once they dropped the bluegrass and 'stage show' look and signed Natalie. She didn't sing on those old records.
As for "When It Rains," that song went Top 40 with the help of other markets. Texas was already 'done' with the single as a major single when it was released nationally.

Part of the reason Texas was "done" with it so soon is because it was just a slightly remixed version of a remake from one of their previous albums. In my opinion it should have never even been released. They should have started right off with ATLS and then gone into Guinevere.

So, I don't know much about this band at all, but I have been hearing this song a lot on the radio in the past few weeks. I must say I really enjoy this song. It's very catchy and I find it gets stuck in my head a lot.

Does everyone think Guinevere should be next? I waffle a little on that. I do think it's by far the standout track of the album -- it's a terrific song. The problem is that radio often turns a cold shoulder to ballads from non-A list artists, especially if it's during the summer. Radio Waves is a good track that's much more summer friendly and somewhat the same sound as ATLS.
On the other hand, ALTS seems to have gotten them a lot of buzz nationally (they're on Leno on Monday), so maybe now is time to go for the home run with Guinevere. Like I said, I go back and forth.

They're likely to go with "Radio Waves" or something of that ilk than "Guinevere."

This will be fighting for the final top 10 spot with Lady Antebellum next week.

I think it was 8 weeks ago that I posted this one would have a hard time making the top 10 in 33 chart weeks due to all the songs lining up to pass it. OK, hasn't gotten there yet; but it's still chugging along after 36 weeks, finally in a position to make the top 10 in week 37 if it can just outrun Lady A. And if it loses out to Lady A this week, maybe in week 38 it can outrun AJ.
Amazing ability to keep moving up. I didn't see how it could last this long. Wonder what the modern-day record is for "most chart weeks for career first two single releases, combined."

Wonder what the modern-day record is for "most chart weeks for career first two single releases, combined." I was wondering when the last time was we had two groups with the name "Band" (ZBB, EYB) in the top 10 at the same time...? :)

^Have we ever even had two acts with the name "Band" on the entire chart at the same time?

Tracy Lawrence's "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" has the record for longest run up the charts. Good on Universal South for sticking with this song.

Tracy only has slowest climb to #1. Longest run is tied between "Baby Girl" and "Before He Cheats". I don't think this song will make to 46 weeks, but who knows.
Of all the indies out there, Universal South seems to have the hardest time with repeat success. Joe Nichols looked like he was on track a few years ago after "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" zoomed up the charts, but all the follow-ups tanked (except "It Ain't No Crime", which was more of a flameout). Phil Vassar managed to get #2 with "Love Is a Beautiful Thing" but its successors tanked. Cross Canadian Ragweed hasn't been able to get any airplay outside Texas still. The Clark Brothers haven't even been working on their album as far as I can tell, and their website is still a placeholder. Why can't Universal South get any momentum?

You're right about Universal Records South other than the whole "indie" thing since they're simply Universal Records' 'country' division yet are separate from Universal Music Group Nashville which is MCA/Mercury/Lost Highway. Also, Randy Houser seems to be doing pretty well and they're currently starting to see some success with Jonathan Singleton.

Looks like "Always the Love Songs" is finishing up this week. The bullet is down from about 280 to 5 in 3 days. Maybe the label took the same approach as Martina Mcbride's label did with Ride, which is to get the song to the top 10 in at least 1 of the 2 main charts, and then release a new single. ATLS did get to #10 on Mediabase this week so Universal South probably won't be pushing the single anymore.

Good explanation, Eric. They didn't care whose #10 they got, as long as they got the song a #10. Too bad from my point of view, as one more week just staying still would have gotten them there on Billboard.
Maybe next time.

I'm really disappointed in his label's decision to pull this wonderful song, if that is indeed the case.
With the top ten jammed with format megastars, I was really hoping that this song and the current singles by Lady Antebellum, the Zac Brown Band, & others would result in a better mix within the top ten with songs by newcomers vs. songs by format heavyweights.
It certainly doesn't do the format any good when the format's eighteen most played artists, as Lon Helton pointed out last summer in Country Aircheck, are responsible for a full 50% of the airplay within the format, does it?

This seems to be happening a lot lately with record labels just settling for the spot they're looking for in 1 out of the 2 charts. ("White Horse", "I Told You So"...) I agree with you guys about this though.

This tune's not bad. Is the rest of the album good? I bought it on Amazon for 1.99 and haven't even listened yet.
