God. This whole fan voting thing is ridiculous. This year had some of the worst nominees (and winners) in MTV history.

God. This whole fan voting thing is ridiculous. This year had some of the worst nominees (and winners) in MTV history. They are taking all the credibility out of these shows. Fan voting doesn't even determine popularity much less who's actually deserving to win. It's all about who has the most dedicated fanbase with the largest amount of stans.

Nominations will be released at the end of September 2008, thus voting for the nominations will commense until end of September.
And a huge promotional campaign is scheduled for this years installment, including BBC, Liverpool Music and the corky Perez Hilton, who by the way is the Official web host of the Awards this year. And the Europe Music Awards always spur a huge sales surge for winners, nominees and performers after the live televised show, just like the Grammy's in America.
Forget the VMA's, this is THE Awards to watch and look out for! I cant wait.

Coldplay, Duffy and Britney Spears lead the nominations for the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, at which Beyoncé is set to perform. MTV today revealed finalists in seven of the eleven categories, including album of the year and act of 2008. Coldplay, Duffy and Britney Spears go head to head in the former category, while Coldplay, Britney, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and Rihanna will compete for the latter. The remaining performing artists at the awards, which will be broadcast live from the Liverpool Echo Arena in Liverpool on Thursday November 6, will be announced in the next few weeks. Between September 29 and November 2, MTV viewers will be able to vote at www.mtvema.com to decide who will win in each category. “The range of this year’s finalists really does demonstrate the breadth of taste of the MTV audience,” says MTV Europe Music Awards executive producer Richard Godfrey. “Alongside such superstars as Beyoncé, Pink and Britney, MTV viewers have recognised the massive talent of bands such as The Cure, Greenday and the Foo Fighters as well as new artists Katy Perry, Duffy and Jonas Brothers.” Album Of the Year Alicia Keys – As I Am Britney Spears - Blackout Coldplay – Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends Duffy – Rockferry Leona Lewis – Spirit Headliner Foo Fighters Linkin’ Park Metallica The Cure Tokio Hotel Most Addictive Track Coldplay – Viva La Vida Duffy – Mercy Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl Kid Rock – All Summer Long P!nk – So What New Act Duffy Jonas Brothers Katy Perry Miley Cyrus One Republic Act of 2008 Amy Winehouse Britney Spears Coldplay Leona Lewis Rihanna Ultimate Urban Alicia Keys Beyoncé Chris Brown Kanye West Lil Wayne Rock Out 30 Seconds to Mars Linkin’ Park Metallica Paramore Slipknot

Astley up for MTV gong after internet trick (Thursday October 02, 2008 08:25 AM) Forgotten pop star Rick Astley's 'Rickrolling' phenomenon has stepped up a gear - he is a surprise contender for the Best Act gong at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards. The singer's Never Gonna Give You Up pop anthem from 1987 was adopted by online jokers in April, luring music fans to sites promising exclusive videos by current artists - only to blast them with remixed versions of Astley's song, or his old video. The computer trick was dubbed 'Rickrolling' by YouTube.com users who were caught out by the prank. But it seems the joke has paid off - Astley, who hasn't had a hit record in two decades, will go up against pop superstars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day, Tokio Hotel and U2 to win the award for the Best Act In The History of the MTV EMAs. A spokesman for the awards says, "The audience has spoken and MTV has been well and truly 'Rickrolled'. "This surprise nomination truly demonstrates that the MTV Europe Music Awards is the most democratically selected awards show there is. Rick's fans have obviously decided that he deserves recognition as a pop icon and no doubt they are determined to make sure he wins on the night." The show will be held in Liverpool, England on 6 November (08). ema.mtv.tv/vote/#__best_act_ever

Nominees For "Best Act Ever" Britney Spears Christina Aguilera Green Day Tokio Hotel U2 Vile. U2 are the only ones there who even approach being deserving of such a title.

I think you forgot Rick Astley! ;) Together Forever was #1 on my birthdate so I'm somewhat more biased towards him too. Even if his career was marginally bigger than Kylie's in America - give or take a few singles.
