"Learn to Live" is finally certified gold. www.dariusrucker.comLEARN TO LIVE GOES GOLD! A huge congratulations to Darius as his smash debut country album Learn to Live surpassed the 500,000 in sales mark and has become RIAA-certified Gold! On this incredible achievement Darius said: "I want to thank everyone at McGhee Entertainment and Capitol Nashville for all they have done to get us to this point," says Rucker. "Also, a huge thanks to Frank Rogers and all the writers on this record. Gold records are hard to come by these days, and I am proud of this accomplishment. Now let's get back to work!"

"Also, a huge thanks to Frank Rogers and all the writers on this record. Gold records are hard to come by these days, and I am proud of this accomplishment. Now let's get back to work!" Assuming "All I Want" and the title track both become followup hits as well, I think there's a good chance this album will go platinum when all is said and done, which in this day in age is a grand achievement. More importantly, however, I hope he does eventually reach Platinum status, as that could provide Darius some clout going into his sophomore era, and he could try and encourage his peers at Capitol Nashville to let him put at least two or three traditional sounding country songs like he originally wanted to record for his debut but were rejected because he was told his label simply wouldn't be able to get them played on radio. With increased name recognition, like Sugarland has done, he can make a compromise with Capitol Nashville, record more contemporary country singles that are tailor-made for Country radio, and in addition have the songs Rucker wants to make himself added to the mix. That would likely make the ingredients for a sophomore record superior to his debut. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

^ he managed to get a song or two on the debut album that i think sound fairly traditional for this day and age... I agree that "All I Want" and "Drinkin' & Dialin'" sound traditional. www.armytimes.com/entertainment/music/gns_dariusrucker_103008/The point I was making is that Darius originally wanted to record a traditional-sounding country album altogether, but Capitol Nashville wouldn't let him, and was instead coaxed into writing a contemporary country album where a majority of the tracks could work as radio singles. But now that he is gaining some clout, he might be able to gravitate increasingly to recording more traditional-style tracks for subsequent releases, even while he'll remain a singles artist for the considerable future. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

yeah...though i think he would have to gain a clout similar to kenny chesney or brad paisley before he released something too different...

It appears definite now that Darius Rucker will collect his second solo #1 in the next one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half weeks, depending on how long "Sweet Thing" remains at the summit before scaling down the chart with Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney's latest releases.
There is now about a 550-spin gap separating "It Won't Be Like This For Long" and "White Horse", which the latter was Rucker's only likely competition going into the Top Ten. Now I'm certain Rucker will go two-for-two with chart-topping single releases this debut era.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Looking like Darius' is in pole position for the best new artist awards for the ACMs and CMAs. He wasn't nominated for the ACMs because he isn't eligible. The nominees for Top New Male Vocalist are: Jamey Johnson, James Otto, Jake Owen. Here are the criteria: [/b] An artist may be a nominee for a period of two consecutive album releases. If an artist is a winner in this category his first year on the ballot, he will not be eligible in this category for a second year.[/quote]

Moves up to #2 on the country chart.
Looks like #1 might be in reach next week.

I used to like this, but then I literally heard it 10 times a day on the radio while in Florida for spring break. I can't stand it now.

i haven't looked too closely at the numbers, but I think it has a pretty good chance at #1 next week - especially with Keith Urban releasing a new song...

It's currently #1 on the Real Time Tracker, while "Kiss A Girl" is the greatest gainer, so I would expect Darius to hit #1 next week. I don't know if he'll hang on for a second week, but he should have one week on top with no problem.

I think so too. I just checked the Mediabase chart and IWBLTFL is already number one with Keith Urban plummeting and the challengers are still pretty far behind. Number one is a given.

Taylor is next in line for #1, and she'll probably be at least 6 million behind Darius on next week's chart. Darius should get at least two weeks...maybe 3 weeks if Capitol goes for that, but that doesn't seem likely given all the short #1 runs we've been seeing.

Three weeks looks pretty solid to me. I'm inclined to predict that it will stay at #1 until the end of creation.

Congrats to Darius on his new #1! I like "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" a little bit more, but it's great to see him having so much success.

If this one doesn't get at least 3 weeks, then nobody will all year. Perfect timing, and slow-moving challengers.

While my guess is "White Horse" will be the next #1 after this single, I must say I wouldn't be surprised either to see "White Horse" fall short, and "It's America" ends up being the next #1 instead, given Taylor Swift is now exploding internationally in popularity and that ubiquitous success could slightly hinder her chart performance here. I'm predicting three weeks at #1 for this track. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Ex/ LeAnn Rimes, Faith Hill, Shania Twain...

Taylor Swift will still chart quite respectably I'm sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if she has a lot of singles winding up performing similar to those from Brooks & Dunn as of late, where they consistently peak high a majority of the time, yet just can't seem to make it all the way to #1 and have to settle for a #2 or #3 peak. "It's America", as it is, has garnered surprisingly strong digital downloads this past week, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the song make large net gains in the coming week. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

^ I'll go even further and predict 4 weeks at #1 for Darius! I disagree about Taylor's future singles. Her album is absolutely loaded with radio friendly upbeat songs such as "You Belong With Me" - which I think will have much faster and stronger performances on the charts than "White Horsey".

The current crop of new females just aren't making music that the format's core audience can relate to, as numerous consultants, PDs, and researchers have told Lon Helton in recent issues of Country Aircheck.
The format is having a heck of a time trying to please three very different listening cells; adults 18-49, women 35-44 (#1 core audience demo for thirteen years), and adults 25-54.
It's still the most-listened to format out there (seventeen years and counting), and that's not too shabby either.
I'll concede Darius two weeks at #1, and possibly three.

He's also the recipient of one of the two standard 'extra spins' on Lon Helton's 'CCUSA' this weekend, the other one going to guest host Jake Owen.

I think Taylor is next week 2 and in 2-3 weeks Nr. 1.
