Yeah the AC nod for Jordin is quite odd. Colbie or Sarah should've gotten it. Leona being totally snubbed is quite odd too. But I'm super happy with the Daughtry and Carrie noms!

Pretty decent nominations. The only person truly snubbed was Leona. She'll be getting plenty of Grammy nods, though.

I guess the American Music awards are for American artists, no? The Brits are mainly for British artists in the same way apart from the obvious couple of international awards. Even so, some of the noms are just weird.

The AMAs are always very sloppy and usually misrepresentative of the nation's taste. The amount of acts nominated is always very limited too. It's also as if they gather a group of 50+'s and ask them for their opinion on the youth's perception.

Yeah at Mimi! Im pissed that Natasha Bedingfield was snubbed though, same with Leona aswell. What if this is a forcast of what it is to come for Leona at the Grammy;s....I would laugh, then probably cry though! Leona & Nat for the win!
As for these awards Mimi, Alicia, Jordin are the only one's I care about......and y did the Joe Bros win Breathrough already? I mean they would have won regardless but thats strange.

Im disappointed! I wanted Sara to at least be nominated for Break Through Artist not even Leona was nominated and I dont even like her that much! This sucks at least we have the performances to look forward thats the only reason ill be watching other than carrie underwood win some.
These stupid Jonas Brothers fans are going to go crazy through the text in award thing and break through artist. WTF they dont even deserve it! I cant wait till there 15 minutes is up and they fade in with the rest of the boy bands.

^Hopefully Carrie Underwood, Nickelback, Chris Brown, Usher, and maybe One Republic will perform... or Coldplay if they attend.

The Mariah nominations are just strange as are the doubling up of artists and albums in different genre categories. None of those people even crossed my mind so I can't say I'm surprised. The Mariah nominations aren't very strange to me. If they base the nominations off of sales/success then she would have the upper hand on all of those three mentioned.

Jonas Brothers for the breakthrough artist? Didn't they released their debut album in 2006?

www.marketwatch.com/news/story/2008-american-music-awards-nominees/story.aspx?guid=%7BA614D2CE-7AA9-4D08-9072-53D7CC837428%7D&dist=hppr"About the Voting -- Initial nominees were selected by using ballots containing names compiled from data supplied by the music industry trade publication, Radio & Records and Nielsen Soundscan, which tracks retail music sales. The ballots were then sent to a national sampling of more than 15,000 people based among other things on what type of music they listen to, what they buy and how many albums they purchase per year. The top three vote getters in each category were determined to be the nominees for this year's American Music Awards (except in the Artist of the Year and T-Mobile Breakthrough categories which each have five Nominees). Winners will be determined by online voting at ama.abc.com as well as at amavote.com (votes will be collected from October 14 to November 7)."

Julianne Hough is performing? why? She is not even a nominee and is not big enough yet for this slot. That just confuses me.

Julianne Hough is performing? why? She is not even a nominee and is not big enough yet for this slot. That just confuses me. I reckon she is a clear favorite of the hosting ABC network, being a big part of their Dancing with the Stars show. She got one of the TV presenting (and performing) roles on the CMA fest, as I'm sure you know, again televised by ABC.

^ true. I also keep forgetting that Disney owns ABC, right? That explains the miley performance slot, taylor, and the jonas brothers, etc.
Other than Rihanna and Pink, it does look like the teen choice awards so far. lol They need to add some artists that appeal to adults.
