What's so weird about those? "Sweetness" only scraped the Top 50, but otherwise I agree with you.

What's so weird about those? Nothing, at least I don't think there's anything weird about them. I just thought we were posting songs we heard at stores. Granted none of those artists are that obscure, but the songs themselves are slightly aged.

I agree. With a slight few exceptions, most songs that come up in this topic -- however recent they may be, and however well they may have performed on the charts -- are seldom heard on the radio anymore.
That being said, I heard U2's "Even Better Than The Real Thing" at TGI Friday's last night.

I was at Cost Plus and I heard Tatiana's "Frosty The Snowman" (in Spanish) TWICE in the same 20 minutes! :o SHOCKING.

Wilson Phillips' "You Won't See Me Cry" at Albertson's (if that's considered obscure)

Wilson Phillips' "You Won't See Me Cry" at Albertson's (if that's considered obscure) Considering it was their lowest-peaking single - at least until the single that came after it - I'd say it is.

It definitely is, because of that and the fact that no radio station plays it anymore (Needless to say, they don't play "Give It Up", neither, and it seems to me that I heard that song not too long ago - not sure where, though.
And, though not obscure, yesterday, I was having lunch at Ponderosa and heard manyChristian AC songs (such as "You Are So Good To Me" by Third Day, "Everything To Me" by Avalon, "The Word" by Sara Groves, "Smile" by Chris Rice, and a few others that I can't remember at the moment). It was pretty cool, to hear them mixed in with Christmas and Pop songs. I wonder if that's the way Pop is going to go in the future. It was off to a pretty good start last year, with "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe on the Pop chart and a few Christian songs on the Hot AC chart earlier this year.

Paul Carrack - I Live By The Groove almost 3 years ago at the Timberlodge Steak House
Yesterday at my job(if it counts) Siouxie & The Bansheee - Kiss Them For Me (their only US top 40 hit, yet "Peak - A - Boo" really is their biggest US hit when you get down to it.)

When I was at the supermarket recently, I heard "Alive" by Jennifer Brown. This is the song that Paul Van Dyk used for vocals in his hit "We Are Alive." At first, I heard the Jennifer Brown song in the store, and thought, "whoa, they're playing Paul Van Dyk in the grocery store! The local radio stations don't play it that much." Then I noticed on the 12" for "We Are Alive" that it contained a sample from that song. I heard a sample of JB's original and realized that was what I heard in the store.

OMG, shopping today was so much fun cuz the musak was playing some tunes I hadn't heard in years.
Paul McCartney's "Goodnight Tonight" - Don't say it, don't say it, say anything but don't say goodnight tonight.
Boz Skaggs' " Lido Shuffle"
And a lot more. It was actually fun shopping for a change!

Me too. I mentioned that song at the start of this post because it came right after a very obscure song and I hadn't heard LS for awhile.

When I was at the supermarket recently, I heard "Alive" by Jennifer Brown. That reminds me - it seems like sometime during the course of the past two years (seems to me like it was April, 2003), I heard the song of the same title by Jennifer Lopez (which only charted at AC radio, surprisingly) at Meijer. Since I've been shopping there regularly pretty much ever since the song charted in early 2003, I have no idea exactly when it was, but somehow, I associate hearing the song with my computer crashing, which happened on April 12, 2003. One hell of a way to wrap up an otherwise great week, huh?

I was eating breakfast yesterday at our local McDonalds, and I heard "My Everchanging Moods" by Style Council. It was a number 26 hit in 1984. Then I heard "Got It Made" by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, a number 69 hit from 1989. I gotta eat there more often!

Taco Bell is also a good place to hear obscure songs. I heard "Right Beside You" by Sophie B. Hawkins the other day (some kid was laughing at the weird sound effect at the beginning) and then they played "Take Time" by Chris Walker.

What a coincidence, I was just thinking about that song and how good it would be to hear it once again.

Actually, he sounded more like Rick Astley to me.
The song, however, does sound like it could have been recorded by Bobby Brown.

Today at McDonald's I heard Wilson Phillips, "The Dream is Still Alive". It sounded like "Hold On", only without the uplift in the chorus.

Lillix' "Tomorrow" was on at Stop & Shop today. I hear a lot of obscure songs at Stop & Shop. Earlier this week, I heard Bryan Adams' "Do I Have To Say The Words?"

OK, I heard several obscure songs today, and all within twenty minutes of each other.
At the K Mart in Mishawaka, Indiana (right next to South Bend), I heard "Too Busy Thinking 'Bout My Baby" by the Manhattan Transfer featuring Phil Collins.
Then, a few minutes later, I went next door to Martin's Supermarket and heard "My Ever Changing Moods" by the Style Council and right afterward was "Alone" by the Bee Gees. The latter of the two was played as I was at the checkout area and I toyed with the idea of pretending I forgot something so I could walk around to hear if the next song that they played was obscure or not, but I wanted to get home, so I just let it ride.
I remember in an 1984 AT40 Flashback topic, after listing the "songs we won't be hearing", I mentioned that most of those songs were so obscure and you'd need to go to the grocery store to have the slightest chance of hearing any of them. "My Ever Changing Moods" was one of those songs, as I recall. Who knew?
