A little over-rated, but still, a decent credit on her resume.

I'd take this one over every other ballad she put out.

Calling this song a little overrated is the biggest understatement I have ever heard. Possibly one of THE MOST overrated songs of all time. It's nothing that special and the overplay this song received was just disgusting.

I second that, though I'm not quite as harsh on it. It only did as well because Mariah sang it.

It's alright, but nowhere near as good as "Vision of Love" and some others.

We Belong Together was the #1 song of the year for 2005

This was the best song to come out of 2005 and ranks in my top ten Mariah songs.
I'd have to disagree that this song is overrated. Normally when a song gets this much praise, I'd say it's great but not that great, but I thought it deserved all the praise it got. The song is classy and sublime, and I think it's one of a handful of Mariah's hits that will be remembered decades from now. Also, I think the song still has that magic despite all the play it has received.

This is one of my favorite Mariah ballads. I agree it was overplayed but I never got tired of it. It was a breath of fresh air on the radio because rarely were ballads of this caliber played. The success this one received was totally deserved.
I enjoyed the original album version and that Desert Storm remix with the additional rap and new vocals. That was a well-done mix. One of Mimi's best urban mixes.
And I really liked Peter Rauhofer and Tony Moran's dance mixes of this song.
One of the highlights of Mariah's' career!!

One of my favorites from 2005. I loved it, hated it (for a month), then loved it again. The remix with Styles and Jadakiss was perfect for the summer.

#1 on the Hot 100 for 14 weeks #1 on CHR for 11 weeks #1 on nine different Billboard charts at the same time #1 on CHR, Rhythmic, Urban, and Urban AC.
32.8 million impressions in one day. 223 million impressions in one week.
And that's just the BEGINNING of it.
A song that colossal from an artist completely written off deserved every bit of the success it received. Incredible!

Yeah it is kinda overrated, but I wouldn't go as far as John did. I still like it though.

I heard this on regular rotation today, and it still sounded fresh competing with all of the other songs.

Hated it back when it was released, but I do like a bit of Mariah nowadays... I personally prefer Don't Forget About Us, but you can't make any excuses for the success of this song other than its appeal. She'd basically been written off up until this point. Sure, she had hype driving her to an extent, but It's Like That didn't perform nearly as well as this and surely that single would have benefited most.
As I said, not a personal favourite, but it's a classic and a hit single in it's own right.

2005 was a really solid year for music and this song was the best of them all. A modern-day classic.

Ugh, what I would give for another ballad that I could love as much as I loved WBT. Amazing song.

It had nice and somewhat understated production, good lyrics and good vocals. I think it definitely deserved to be a hit. I didn't like the fact that it was overplayed to death, though. I actually prefer "Don't Forget About Us", even though it was basically a carbon copy of WBT. lol

*the following is a satire, this in no way reflects the opinion of the NLP, DRAMATIZATION*
Overrated, Mariah is the all time greatest. She has been through so much, and this was such a great hit for her. This song is gospel, r&b, pop, hip-hop, soul and so many other genres, no one else can even touch this! So all the hataz and the naysayerzz can back off Mariah!

I don't think We Belong Together is overrated at all. It still sounds great, and for me, still has the magic it did when it came out. It's maybe my favorite Mariah song ever.
It was awesome when it came out- as soon as I heard it once, I knew it was going to be a hit.

Does this still hold any of the airplay records it set then?

For me what makes this song great is the second verse and that note at the end. It's a very well-crafted pop song. It's simple, but that's the beauty of it, I think.
Like others mentioned, I think this song was so successful not just because of it's appeal but because it was a return-to-form for Mariah. People have been waiting for something like this from her for years, and for it to come after 2 flops and her being counted out, it's understandable that it would be as well received as it did. It's nothing completely original or unique but for what it is, it's fantastic.
I don't really listen to the radio that much, and it wasn't as much as a giant here in Canada as it was in the US, so I didn't really hear enough to the point where I was sick of it. But with 16 weeks at #1 on airplay in the States, I could see how people would be sick of it, lol.

Nothing special about "Vision Of Love (Part 56)".

Nothing special about "Vision Of Love (Part 56)". I know, right? Seriously. Mariah is the most commercial artist of all time. That probably isn't her doing, it's most likely a record exec's doing, but still, when I think of the most influential artists of all time, Mimi doesn't make the list.
