I could never really relate to Jefferson Airplane. Their music was too blusey & psychedelic for my tastes. They got better in the '70s when they changed to Jefferson Starship; and I think they were at their best in the '80s with songs like this, as well as "Sara" & "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now".

The best musical year of the '80s, in my opinion, was 1985. This is proof that even that year had a couple stinkers. That being said, there is a little bit of a guilty pleasure factor for me. But I'll get it off my radio when I get the chance.

The "stinkers" of 1985 IMO were "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, "Angel" by Madonna, and "The Goonies R Good Enough" by Cyndi Lauper. But most of the tunes that hit #1 were pretty decent.

I was young when this came out, but I remember hearing it later in 80s movies and liking it.

I wasn't even alive when it was out but I think it was still getting played by the early 90s and stuff.
Cheesy but not really that bad. Mildly entertaining even.

I actually didn't like this song at first. Everytime I would hear it on the radio, I would just change the station, but I grew to like it overtime. lol

I first heard this about 13 years ago while closing at work and loved it. I had no idea this song was so hated until much later, but it's too catchy for me to ever hate.

One of the worst 1980s songs of all time. Cheesy, over-commercialized dreck with hypocritical lyrics when one realizes Starship's ties to the 1960s psychedelic band Jefferson Airplane. Starship's other big hits "Sara" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" aren't much better due to both being over-the-top and being overplayed on AC/Adult Top 40 radio when I was younger. Can't turn the dail fast enough whenver I hear "We Built This City". Both Jefferson Airplay and Jefferson Starship are okay but Starship was so cringeworthy.
