I like it... hit #2 on the Hot 100, and made it all the way to #5 on Billboard's Black Singles (R&B) chart.

I love it. It's one of my favorite Sheena Easton songs. It sounds just like Karyn White's songs from that time though.

I never liked this one. It sounds so much like most other material on the radio back in 1989.
I liked her earlier hits, like "For Your Eyes Only", "Telefone" and "Almost Over You". Her music from the mid-80s on never really impressed me.

This song, if I recall correctly, debuted very low on the Hot 100 and lost it's bullet early on. Yet somehow it managed to regain momentum enough to crack the top 5. Very unusual for that time period!

Very unusual for that time period! "Hands To Heaven" by Breathe did the same thing a year earlier. Lost its bullet twice, actually, but became one of 1988's biggest hits.

I love the song, too. I heard it one early morning in '95 via WJDX-FM (Mix 96).

Brilliant. Sheena had a lot of good hits, shame she doesn't really get remembered as fondly as other singers from the 80s.

Almost as good as "101", which IMO, is a Prince classic.

The entire album was crackin'! I loved it. She worked with not only LA & Babyface, but also as I recall Prince & Angela Wimbush. At the same time she's no Annie Lennox, now she's the real Scottish Blue -eyed soul singer, for real.

^ Amen you better preach, the whole album is bumpin'. It blows my mind to think that this is same chick who "For Your Eyes Only" and delivers a true urban-esque album like she did. Prince, Angela Winbush, Babyface, Allee Willis, etc did their shit on that album. "The Lover In Me" is hands down my fav. Sheena song... it just still sounds fresh to me even if it's "old" lmao. The urban/dance side of Sheena's catalogue as always been what I have preferred more than her squeaky pop/adult contemporary side from the early start of her career. The Lover In Me, 101, No Deposit No Return, If It's Meant To Last, Fire and Rain (<3),, Days Like This are my overall favs from the album. Heh I got it on vinyl and wear it out occasionally lmao and also jocked some mp3's of the album.

I love this, but then I love most LA/Babyface-produced songs.

I love Sheena and the LaFace sound of the time, so this is really high up in my book. She also does a terrific job of singing it.

It sounds just like Karyn White's songs from that time though. Karyn is one of the background singers on this, btw. Love this song... the intro, verses, chorus... the whole thing.

This is probably my favorite song of hers. This song, if I recall correctly, debuted very low on the Hot 100 and lost it's bullet early on. Yet somehow it managed to regain momentum enough to crack the top 5. Very unusual for that time period! I haven't seen the Hot 100s from that period (well, not the ones straight from the magazine, anyway), but it indeed debuted at #99 on a week in November 88 (I want to say it was the 19th).

Yeah I remember this took its sweet time getting to the Top 10, definitely not typical of the era when the charts in 1989 were back to 74-75 rates of quickie chart runs and turnovers. It's run was....
Date: 11/05/1988 - Run: 99-91-84-77-61-52-41-34-34-30-24-18-14-12- 7-5-4-*2*-8-21-34-51-68-79-100 (25/5 wks) UK:#15/8
Hitting the top 10 in its 15th week was odd since the rule back then seemed to be most tracks were peaked by week 13.....
Great track although I've never warmed to the rest of the album. Will pull it out tonight and see if my opinion has changed.

This song must be the most forgotten #2 song in history. I've asked many people who grew up in the 80's about it, (it's one of my all-time favs) NOBODY remembers it. Anyone have any idea why??

Great tune. Some solid songs on the album
