This isnt' really the best song she's done, but it was a fun first single. It was old-school and Jay-Z had some pretty cool raps. But Rainbow didn't really have a lot of good songs on it. I loved the music video. I also loved the "Ain't No Fun" remix and it's hot music video. Well maybe expect the part where she is wrestling herself. This song taught me the words "euphoric" and "incessantly". lol The single cover was hot! US - #1 Canada - #1 Japan - #1 UK - #5

One of her more likeable singles. Does this sample "Genius Of Love" by the Tom Tom Club? I know Fantasy does more overtly, but this sounds like it has a similar rhythm, and i remember reading somewhere about Mariah liking the song so much she's sampled it twice.

I think it samples "Attack of The Name Game" by Stacy Lattisaw
Hmm.. I also remember seeing a music video with Jay-Z in it... I'm not sure though

I Hate it. Number one song or not, this joins the ranks of "Loverboy" and her material from Charmbracelet as being her worst.

There were two videos. The cartoon one has Mariah shopping and stuff. I liked the cartoon part. The other one showed Jay-Z on the cinema screen, I believe.

Loved it.
There were two versions made because of contract problems with Jay-Z. I can't remember exactly WHY he couldn't physically appear in the video at the time of the single release. It had something to do with contracts, and that's why the cartoon Jay-Z was made in his place...

I love this song a lot. People always bicker about this song being so unoriginal. Who cares? It's fun, and it doesn't remind me of any other song.
The Junior Vasquez remixes were HOT as was the video and the DJ Clue remix.

I never even recognized any similarities to any other of her songs before everyone started talking trash.

I thought this had decent lyrics, better than some of her other first singles.

I never even recognized any similarities to any other of her songs before everyone started talking trash. This is true. Everyone said it sounded exactly the same as her other lead-off singles "Dreamlover," "Fantasy," etc. But that couldn't be further from the truth. "Heartbreaker" was a breath of fresh air from Mariah. It may have been a throwback to her pop roots after her departure in the "Butterfly" album, but it still had a very unique sound to it.

I didn't care about this song when it came out but it grew on me lot! I love this song and the video was cool. The remix was hot!

The song and the video are pretty cool, especially the fight scene in the video. Probably my favorite in the hip-hop Mariah era.

I really like this one for being so fun, but Mariah does have stronger songs. I do think this sounds a bit like "Honey," too, which I like a little more.

Not my favorite single. I loved the music video. That was just so cool.
But the real highlight of this single release was Junior Vasquez's monumental remixes. Mariah resung the vocals and in the middle break with the slow-down, she sung a bit of Val Young's "If You Should Ever Be Lonely." That was totally appropriate. On Junior's dub version, he made use of Mariah's high notes and just looped them all over the place. Totally epic.

This was hot. I prefer the DJ Clue remix though. I heard that one the most.
Jay-Z didn't appear in the video because he signed a contract with Epic Records. At that time he was promoting "Girls Best Friend" from Blue Streak SDTK. He did appear after his contract was up.
The remix video was something else. It was the first video where Mariah shows off more than her voice. She's washing Snoop's car and wrestling with "Bianca". I loved Da Brat and Snoop's wedding scene. lol.

This takes me back to the TRL years, mostly because that's where I heard it the most. I remember this being maybe the only video that retired that wasn't by a teen act from the years that I watched (1999-2001).
I much prefer the original video to the one for the remix. Same with the song itself.

One of my favorite Mariah lead singles. Jay's rap is probably the best out of every featured rap verses in Mariah's catalog. So catchy!

I heard it and had to buy it so I could listen again and again. Otherwise, I pretend the Rainbow era didn't happen.
