My third favorite band ever!
What does everyone think about this album? and this time in their career?
I have to say that this is a great album. It's an A album... thought not an A+ like the one before it or after it.
However, I don't like the singles from this album except for "Stay Together..."
"The Rock Show" was such a disappointing first single that it almost killed my anticipation for the song. It's not bad, but Blink has soooo many better songs.
"Stay Together For the Kids" is brilliant. Enough said.
And "First Date" was good too, but I think kind of plain. I wish they released "Everytime I Look For You" instead of this one. It would have done a lot more.

This is just me, but I don't think we should do "era" topics for old albums. I'm not against discussing whole albums in this forum, but the word "era" in the title is a bit much.
I don't own this album, but I'll talk about the singles.
"The Rock Show" was good. One of the best songs of the summer of 2001.
"Stay Together For The Kids" was awesome. That's not enough said, though. ;) The first time I heard it, it was one of those "Whoa" songs. I guess also because it was a very relatable song for me, and that's always beneficial to liking a song. It's probably the most significant elevation of a song any feature can have. But musically, I loved the guitar riff entering the chorus. It really smacks you upside the head especially with Tom's voice. I also liked the contrast between Mark's verses and Tom's choruses.
"First Date" was their worst song in my opinion. I grew to eventually like it, but it was disappointing at the time. I don't know, I just couldn't get into it.

I loved the "Enema Of The State" singles. Then this came and I honestly couldn't stand a single song released from that album. I ended up listening to it a lot over the summer because a lot of people I knew had the album, but I didn't like any of the album tracks either.
Now with the "blink 182" album, I'm more impressed than I ever was.

Those are my feelings exactly. "Stay Together For The Kids" was the only song I could actually stand. Which is too bad because I loved "Enema Of The State. I really have only heard there first single from their latest release and I am not that impressed. But I might pick it up anyways because I have yet to hear a bad review of the cd.

I like all the album tracks, that's why I don't understand "The Rock SHow" being released as the lead single.... unless the record label made them do it, to try to get another Pop hit. I HOPE that's not the reason though! But I might pick it up anyways because I have yet to hear a bad review of the cd. Definitely pick it up, you won't regret it.

I loved "Stay Together for the Kids" and "First Date." :) I especially love the bridge in "First Date."

I agree that "Stay Together..." was the best single from this album. The other two were nowhere near good. Someone should have told them how lame it sounds to "name-drop" entertainment forms in songs, let alone sing an entire song about them. That's what lowered the otherwise C-type bland "The Rock Show" down to an [red]F[/red]. Aside from being painfully generic, "First Date" was not horrible, but there was nothing redeeming about it.

"Give me one good reason" is the best song Blink's recorded. The singles off this album, though, were sork of weak. I went to a show a little bit after this album was released, and they hardly played anything off it - Rock Show, First Date, and Give me one good reason. The rest was stuff from "Enema" and "Dude Ranch"

That's what lowered the otherwise C-type bland "The Rock Show" down to an [red]F[/red]. But the song isn't about rock shows in general, it's about meeting a girl at a rock show. I mean, they mention the Warped Tour, but that's about it, and the context is recounting the fact that that's where the person first met the girl. Giving it an [red]F[/red] simply because of the title seems like splitting hairs to me. I don't understand how saying they met at "The Rock Show" as opposed to, say, "The Mall", should make it any worse (assuming the general context isn't altered as a result).

Ha! I just remember Casey mentioning that album title.
On at least 2 occassions, Casey mentioned "Take Off Your Pants And Jacket" with no shame at all in his voice. I don't think it registered as to what he was really saying.
I guess that's understandable because senior citizens don't always keep up with the times.

I don't understand how saying they met at "The Rock Show" as opposed to, say, "The Mall", should make it any worse (assuming the general context isn't altered as a result). They mention "the rock show" too much to make me think that it's mainly about a girl and not a rock show. They also get major points off for the cheezy mention of Warped Tour. If they said "the mall" instead of "the rock show" it might be dropped down from a C to a D for stupidity, but not quite an [red]F[/red] because it's a different medium. Because as a general rule, singing about music and/or concerts, especially when mentioned overtly, is a huge turn-off, but that's just me.

Well, HowieDayFan, in the same sentence that "the rock show" is being repeated, it says "the girl at the rock show" ;)
Either way, I don't care for that song at all. Seems way too simple, and musically leaves something to be desired as well. "The Rock Show" was bland and typical, as even the topic creator stated.
That is why "Stay Together For the Kids" was easily the best. It doesn't try too hard, and has a good message.
And that's even now that I like them a lot. And I liked all the Enema singles, although I can't say I like it nearly as much as the former. But that album did help it warm up on me some. I did hear the songs from the album this topic was dedicated to, but I can't say that I remember those songs very well.

Why is this thread here? Shouldn't it be in Music News? The CD came out about three years ago...Nostalgia seems as good a place as any. But regarding reception's post...you're right, that's more Music News info...

I prefer the "Dude Ranch" and "Enema of the State" eras, but this album wasn't bad. I liked "The Rock Show".

I never did like "The Rock Show". It never did anything for me.
I loved "Stay Together For The Kids" right from the first listen. It's by far my favourite single from them.
"First Date" is alright, but like "The Rock Show" there's not much to it.
So Nick, when's that in-depth reply coming? ;)

I loved this album when it was new, but it hasn't really stood the test of time that well. I do think it was better than Enema, which was just too bubblegum and really only had "Adam's Song" to redeem it. But I agree that the singles from this album were weak. and that "Every Time I Look For You" should've been a single. Maybe "Anthem Part 2" as well.
