1986 - 25 Or 6 To 4/Chicago
And yeah, I remember "Seal Our Fate". That song got a lot of initial airplay (on CHR and AC stations) and then just hit a brick wall. Apparently, at AC radio, it was deemed unplayable at many stations. Today, it would probably be a Top Ten hit.

"Seal Our Fate" is definitely not AC Neither are some of the other songs that have been hitting the AC chart. It definitely wasn't AC by 1991 standards, and it's not really AC today, but it wouldn't be quite as out of place at the format now as it was back in 1991. The AC format was three years away from being split into two separate formats. Most stations that were playing "Seal Our Fate" would be considered Hot AC a few years later. WHFB in Benton Harbor, which played that song, was always sort of in between mainstream AC and Hot AC, although they reported as a mainstream AC station.

I saw the topic heading and was gonna mention "25 or 6 To 4" from 1986. Oh well! Ulij20 beat me to it.
Have to question your number one song of 1988. "Without You" by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle? Never heard of it. And I thought I knew every song from 1988!

2002 - A New Day Has Come - Celine Dion So, was that just Rick Dees' chart that deleted Celine? 'Cause it hit #25 on R&R's pop chart...

I'm 99% sure that "A New Day Has Come" hit Rick's chart.

Never heard of it. And I thought I knew every song from 1988! I believe there's a full clip of the song somewhere in the Nostalgia forum. Though the song did hit Top Ten on the AC charts in early 1988, it went nowhere at Pop radio, so I can see how you might have missed this one. And yes, "A New Day Has Come" did indeed chart on the "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40". Remember - it was usually rap songs that he kept out of his chart back then.

Two weeks after "Seal Our Fate" was the sure shot, the Bee Gees' "When He's Gone" was picked.
Eric Clapton's "Motherless Child" 10-15-94 Crash Test Dummies "Afternoons & Coffeespoons" 7-2-94 Katey Sagal's "Can't Hurry The Harvest" 4-30-94 Breeders' "Divine" Werid Al's "Headline News" 12-3-94 Bananarama's "I Can't Help It" 11-21-87 Jane Child's "Welcome To The Real World" 6-9-90
Not Sure on: Garth Brooks' "Hard Luck Woman" Huey Lewis & The News' "Some Kind Of Wonderful" Gloria Estefan's "Always Tomorrow" I'm sure there's more out there.....

Ryan, the only one you mentioned in the "not sure on" list that didn't hit the Rick Dees show was "Always Tomorrow" by Gloria Estefan.
"Headline News" was kind of weird. When Rick introed the song, he said it was the Sure Shot. But coming out of the song, he said it was an extra. "Weird Al", who was a guest on the show, said, "Hey, I thought you said it was the Sure Shot. What happened, didn't my check clear?"
I remember "Can't Hurry The Harvest" being the Sure Shot, though I don't remember how it goes. I do remember liking it a lot and putting it on my Personal Top 30 chart.

That reminds me, another Moby misfire was "We Are All Made of Stars" in 2002.

1986 - 25 Or 6 To 4/Chicago This song was from 1986? Man, I always thought it was from the 70's. Guess that's why it didn't chart.

This song was from 1986? Man, I always thought it was from the 70's. Guess that's why it didn't chart. It was a self-remake, from their first post-Cetera album. Odd choice for a single, definitely.

Two weeks after "Seal Our Fate" was the sure shot, the Bee Gees' "When He's Gone" was picked. Speaking of the Bee Gees, back in the early '90s, they had a song as a Sure Shot titled "For Whom The Bell Tolls." I thought, "What a stupid name for a song." Later I found out it was some sort of cliche that was around before the Bee Gees were.

I seem to remember the following songs being Sure Shots in 1989:
Steve Winwood -- "Hearts On Fire" Robert Palmer -- "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" (remake of the Jermaine Jackson song from 1984)

I think there was a song from The C and C Music Factory from 1994 that was an uncharted sure shot.

Wasn't "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" by Clivilles & Cole a Sure Shot one time? I don't think that made it.

There were a bunch from the past couple years, but the only one I can think of right now is the latest FeFe Dobson song.

There was one by Luther Vandross in 1993. It was something like "Heaven Knows."
