I never liked it, it was boring and hookless.

I could do without it.

I'm shocked this didn't become a smash. I really liked it. But radio didn't give her another chance after she came back from "retirement".

I'm assuming that you're talking about the Pop chart, as at Hot AC, this song spent months at #1. It would have been the top song of the year had it been released a little earlier. But that damned Enrique Iglesias whinefest took the gold instead. >:(

Yes I was referring to the Pop charts. But thanks for reminding me that this was huge on AC formats! I really didn't think her "break" would kill her chances of a comeback at CHR. She was only gone for two years.

I don't think her break killed her chances. By the time she came back, she was passe for the format, since rap and R&B music had dominated the format. Even if she hadn't taken a break, her songs would slowly start peaking lower and lower. "New Day" might have peaked a little higher than it did had she kept making music, but only a few spots higher.

One of Celine's best! Too bad it didn't break the all-time record at #1 on the AC charts. If memory serves me correctly, it was in a 3-way tie with "You'll Be In My Heart" and "I Knew I Loved You" at 19 weeks each. "Drift Away" passed them all up and then "Heaven" passed that one.

I was surprised it made the pop chart at all. She had good timing, coming right off Enya's success with "Only Time".
I don't think her break hurt her either. As ulij20 said, it's unfortunate, but she's not the type of artist pop will touch anymore.

Though it isn't her best, I still like this song by her. I disagree that it's lacking a hook. It may not be one of the most catchiest songs out there but certain parts of it always got stuck in my head. CHR/Pop was on the verge of heading in a new direction at the time and stuff like this was no longer "in." Had this been released in the 90s, I'm sure it would have done much better than it did.

I remember REALLY liking this song. I'd always go to bed with the radio tuned into the local AC station, and they had Delilah on, and she had a habit of playing that song quite often in summer 2002.

I really liked this song, though I'm not a big Celine Dion fan.

Well, I'm not sure which chart you are talking about here. But, on the R&R chart, Phil Collins first took the lead with spending 19 weeks @ #1 (non-consecutive, thanks to the battle with I Want It That Way). Then, "I Knew I Loved You" also spent 17 weeks @ #1 (remember, for R&R, the two week break DOES NOT COUNT because there are no chart reported on which it is #1). But, then Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come" came up and spent 19 weeks @ #1 (non-consecutive, thanks to that one stupid week where Hero snuck back in... URGH). Celine and Phil held the record for over a year together, but then Drift Away went on to spend 23 weeks @ #1 (again, non-consecutive), which is now tied for the most weeks @ #1 on any R&R format (ties Smooth's run at #1 in 2000 on the HAC chart). Heaven *only* spent 20 weeks @ #1, so it is in second place on the AC chart.

They included the two frozen weeks going from 1999-00 so "I Knew I Loved You" got 19 weeks. Then in 2000-2001, they briefly used a chart that wasn't R&R.

I thought it was a great song to mark her return. Shame radio became ignorant when it came to music around this time and only got #25 on pop. It definitely deserved higher. Also my #1 song of 2002.

I like this one! It's a beautiful song, and I disagree that it lacks a hook- the whole song draws me in.

Yeah, Celien from Galien!
BTW, I noticed that I didn't include my opinion of this song. I liked it a lot. Takes me back to the summer of 2002.

This along with I Drove All Night is my top two favorite Celine songs of the 2000s. This song is so great.

This was a great comeback single for her. Shame it didn't do better on pop, but this is actually her biggest AC hit I believe.

I like it but not one of her best. To be honest I think Celine started going downhill after "That's The Way It Is".
