Gwen is only #21? Pink at #4? Hmm, could this imply radio is pushing us what we don't necessarily want?

^maybe. It took me a little bit to get what you were meaning. lol I was like, was that a dis against pink? but she likes pink? lol I hope radio starts playing UUH a lot more since it is getting a good call out score now.

No, I guess I should clarify. I mean, Gwen is #7 in airplay but only #21 according to call-out scores (aka most favorable reactions), and Pink is #31 in airplay but apparently 4TH most popular amongst those polled. Seems a bit paradoxical, if you ask me. Airplay SHOULD reflect popular opinion - and callout scores often prove this isn't the case. But this is the reality of radio. I agree, this high call-out score for Pink should strike a note of confidence in any PD STILL reluctant to spin this track.

LOL! I got what you meant. It just took me a little bit! haha Radio is stupid. It shows people wanna hear P!nk, but they aren't playing her.

Downloads don't dictate the full story, either. Somewhere between airplay, requests, poll feedback, downloads, and album sales lies the truth, LOL. We try so hard to objectify popularity through #s because it's the only way we know how, and yet, often those numbers conflict with what the "street consensus" is. It's a huge problem in every aspect of media. There's not a lot we can do about it, except maybe to take things like charts less seriously, while taking things like individual subjectivity & preference into greater account. That works for the laypeople, anyway. The industry wants the bottom line, and to them, numbers are as good as hard evidence in terms of what they should invest their money in.

I don't really know much about callouts but I assume they are just samples and generalizations on the overall population right? But part a huge part of downloads is people actually being aware of the song. The song hasn't really been spun much around the country and has gotten little to no promo. I think more of both would definitely help downloads.

^agreed. Visibility (unfortunately) accounts for so much. People respond to what they are made aware of. iTunes is the digital equivalent of a guilty pleaure candy shop, with your download being the impulse purchase. You probably will buy something you are already familiar with, unless of course it is a "freebie" (analogy: a free stale box of Russell Stovers [okay, that's one from personal experience ] equals a free download of "Le Disko"). For 99 cents, people will indulge their seedier tastes; for free, they will download absolutely anything. Of course, if EVERY song were free all the time, we'd get the ultimate idea of what really is popular - you'd have to employ selectivity once again (once the novelty of being able to stuff your proverbial pockets with candy mp3s wears off). I daresay Soulseek and the like, if they could be monitored, would possibly serve as the most valid indicator of what music the online community truly seeks out.

^yeah, Pink's downloads and airplay should start going up alot. If you look at the previous call out scores she wasn't even on there. Now she is #4! So that shows people are just starting to take notice.

Pink's song is a hit-its already selling decent downloads with like...NOTHING to fuel it. I mean, seriously this song had zero hype, no one thought it would do well, she is coming off of how many airplay flops (or disappointments) an older dead album that failed to go platinum...it just amazes me that the song is getting a chance at all. But with positive reactions, decent downloads, and the album even gaining a wee bit of momentum...and a huge bullet...I hope she can go top 20 at least!

I would be careful of call-out research also. It's what a 15 sec part of the song and artists that are already played a lot get better scores. It's called familiarity.

Wow she will take the top spot soon as it gains audience or familarality. Her audience is about 50 million lower than the #1 and I think the only burn it has is like at my city lol, since we been playing her since November >< (Course I didn't rank it as such, I'd rather here this all year long than some of the songs people are still loving like than Irreplaceable, My Love and GITM
