I was at the John Kerry rally the other night and as we walked away the song "All Right Now" was blaring from the speakers. My friend and I sang along to it and then I asked her who sings it. She had no idea either. Then, tonight I'm working at my computer and I decided to play the soundtrack to the movie "Now and Then" (I picked it up for a buck). And there it is "All Right Now" by FREE. I don't think I've ever heard anything about this band, but I know all the words to that song. Does anyone know what other songs of theirs were hits, if any? I'm assuming this was their biggest hit. Anyone know how it did on the charts? What do you think of this song?

This was indeed their biggest hit... their only top 40 hit on the Hot 100, peaking at #4 in 1970. Free's lead singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke later formed Bad Company.
"All Right Now" is the song that most people assume was sampled for Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina", but the guitar riffs in "Medina" sound more like Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" to me.

The track was taken from 1970's 'Fire and Ice' album. I'm not familiar with the above-mentioned soundtrack, so I'd advise you to be sure that the track you have runs 5:30. If it's substantially shorter, you have the short version which omits the best part of the song.
This was considered hard rock in its day, and it was one of the first hard rock tunes to make a big splash on dance floors. It's always been one of my favorite 70s tunes.

OMG! :o I had just added thsi song to my playlist, well decided to just two days ago. Listen to this : I made a "Classic Rock" CD and included this song on it, but used the UK 1991 single version instead of the 1970 original version. I was wondering why it sounded so "modern", anyway, I kept playing without a care. Now and still it's headed for the number one position on my personal chart, and I'm so sure it's a good idea to replay a popular song like this even if it's been slightly remixed.

This song was what made AM radio great in the early 70s, and became ripped apart by FM classic rock in the late 70s-80s. such a super riff, and if u listen carefully, steve miller kinda ripped off the riff for his mega hit-rock 'n me. if you listen to it nowadays, u would say i'm crazy, but these 2 songs are close enough in their riffs and were only about 6 or so years apart when hard/arena rock was still a relatively new genre that people did kinda question the ripoff. same with the who's baba o'reilly and bto's u aint seen nothing yet.
another amazing AM radio fave that came out at this time was raspberries go all the way. another classic AM pop smash that classic rock abused.

Another fierce guitar riff. Damn I wish I had been a teenager back in the 70's.
