| Although I think in the end this CD was overrated, I still can't praise Alanis' breakthrough album enough. It's superb. Everything from the album tracks to the five Top 10 hits that it had! What is it that you like about this CD? |

Yeah, this was certainly one helluva debut CD. I remember how I couldn't stand "You Oughta Know" when it first came out back in '95, but now when I think about it, this track has to be one of the best songs by a female rock vocalist of the 90's. One cannot consider it among her biggest CHR hits, but it definitely ranks up there in my mind. "All I Really Want" was also a cool track.
Interestingly, her songs did very well on alternative radio at the time. Somehow, I get the feeling that her success on alternative is done, but hey, there's always memories, right?
People actually find similarities between Alanis and Avril?! Will someone please give me a huge garbage bag because I have to puke that much.

I posted on R and R that I bought it this year (reminder: I started following music in 1999) for "You Oughta Know" and "Ironic."

I didn't get "Jagged Little Pill" until last spring, but it still sounds as impressive as it would've been had I heard it back in 1995-96. It's one of those albums that'll stand the test of time.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing this album because it's just THAT good. Believe it or not, "Jagged Little Pill" was the first CD I got over here in Canada. So this CD was definitely special for me... Back then, my mom was like "Ooh, the singer who sings the swearing songs..." It was definitely funny.

A brilliant album. The first one I ever bought, and I have been hooked on Alanis since. It's a shame though that in terms of commercial success there was only one way Alanis could go following this album. :(
Being such an icon of the mid 90's has probably also limited her success today.

Well at least Alanis is still around and releasing new albums... Radio should have given her more chances with her singles from "Under Rug Swept"...

A great album. My favorite single off this album is "You Learn." That's my 2nd favorite Alanis single of all time (after "Uninvited")

Favorite songs from that CD:
1) Head Over Feet 2) Ironic 3) You Learn 4) Hand In My Pocket 5) You Oughta Know (the first version, not the hidden track)
"I'm short, but I'm healthy, yeah."

But an album track I really liked from it was "Not the Doctor," for some reason that song just clicked with me.

I love this cd so much. It is one of the best debut cd ever. I really don't like the single as much as I do the album tracks but that is only because the radio overplayed all of her songs back than. The one exception would of course be "You Oughta Know". This is probably my 2nd favorite Alanis track of all time. Only behind "Hands Clean".

I love this cd so much. It is one of the best debut cd ever. It was her American debut, but she had more albums in Canada.

It was her American debut, but she had more albums in Canada. Oh yes I should've remember that she was a teen idol in Canda. Thanx for correcting me ;)

I love 'Unforgiven' now! It was never a favourite of mine until rather recently (say, within the last year or so) and I absolutely love it! 'Perfect' is also fine. However, 'Wake Up' is my favourite song from the CD overall! I LOVE IT!

Haven't heard it, but I really like "Uninvited." If you mix up the notes at the beginning of the song, you get John Carpener's "Halloween" theme. ;)

Classic album! I wonder if people will still buy this now that they can get all the singles with her new album.

I'd say so. A lot of classic albums continue to sell even tho they have greatest hits albums out. I think this CD is also a lot cheaper than the GH and a lot of people who want this CD will prolly just get this since they aren't interested much in what came afterward. But it does make you wonder...

Her first proper album. And a very good one obviously.
For me personally it's not my favourite Alanis album though.

It's alright, but it's extremely overrated by some imo.

Great album from beginning to end. Too bad all her other albums are terrible.

only her third best album, IMO. It's probably the album that had the biggest influence on music of this decade (Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Katy Perry and many Indie female singer-songwriters). I do like the vibe behind this album. NOBODY in mainstream today makes such a COMPLETE album anymore.

Love this album, but no where near being her best (FOE and SFIJ are her best IMO).

Forgiven was my jam last year! I actually haven't listened to SFIL... but I do like FOE better than this. Still a really great album.
