"One Sweet Day" is pretty boring. "Macarena" doesn't deserve to even be on that list.

WHen you realize it, yeah the songs aren't so EPIC, but I agree Macarena, little kids know the song and the moves and all, it has surpassed generations. Well I mean every year there's new "dances", Crank Dat was the 2007 dance, just like The Jerk seems to be this year's dance.

Well this certainly won't be the first song to hit the 10 week club that I think is undeserving of it. It will join Candle in the Wind '97, The Boy Is Mine, Macarena, I Swear, I'll Be Missing You, Foolish, Physical, You Light Up My Life, Dilemma, Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, Sincerely, and of course Low as the songs that shouldn't be in that prestigious club in my book. But oh well, I do like it better than most of those songs I listed.

Most of those songs are synonymous with a certain era that when looking back they are songs you can instantly recall.

Sorry, but with the exception of maybe Macerena and Physical I don't see any of those songs that I listed as very iconic of their respective eras. I think most of them fall into the "trendy at the time, but long forgotten" category. There are dozens of songs from each of those eras that I'd say are much more well known and legendary songs.

However, I think any song that notches 10 weeks or more at #1 on the Hot 100 needs to be a truly memorable song that defines an era and will be remembered for decades. Sorry, but this just doesn't fit that mold, even if I do like it. There's plenty of songs I like, but i don't want them spending 10+ weeks at #1.

Well Tabitha can argue that it does fit in the era. What the hell song fits in this generation of music now? T-pain, weezy, pop females, and pop-hiphop are what is NOW. BEP went is staying at #1 for a reason because WE appreciate and purchased it for so long. No other song has stayed #1 on the digital chart this long in a while. It deserves the success that it has received for a good reason.
And trends are what matter now. Its good if it has staying power but quick profits are what are important here and now. This song may be a trend song but this song is sure popular enough to stop many songs from not being as directly popular because of its success.

^You know this song's popularity is just a trend though. The recurrent airplay for this 5 years from now will be dismal, and 10 years from now it will be like the song never existed. That's why it doesn't deserve to spend so long at #1, it's a trend song, not a true mega hit that will stand time.

Do I want this to be #1 any longer? Hell no! Do I think this deserves being #1? Yes. If so many people are listening to this on the radio and buying it on iTunes, then it most definitely deserves to be a #1 song.

Any song that meets the criteria to become #1 deserves to be there. (well at least most do)

Recurrent airplay doesnt count for shit now. you don't hear many #1 songs from ten years ago or even 20 years ago on radio. There isnt a recurrent chart so it doesn't matter. You don't hear many of the songs that have many weeks on the top as well. Ill give you this: it will probably have as much recurrent airplay as Hot in Herre. Better yet, low, which is still featured a lot on many CHR and rap stations.

where was We Belong Togethers airplay by its 9th week at #1? Was it around the same -- I would think it had to be gaining in huge amounts, cause WBTs digital sales were so-so yet it's epic airplay I remember is what kept it on top for so long (14 weeks)

I'm still astounded at how high We Belong Together's airplay went. How did it do on all the formats that the song was played on?

How did it do on all the formats that the song was played on? #1 CHR (11 weeks) #1 Rhythmic (10 weeks) #1 Urban (7 weeks) #1 Urban AC (5 weeks) #1 Dance #3 or #4 AC (It got to #3, but I don't know whether or not it kept it until Sunday) #17 Hot AC #20 Smooth Jazz It was a monster. Which is why I'm surprised BBP might remain atop the Hot 100 for as long as WBT did, if not longer.

I just went according to the Hot Dance Airplay chart, but I'll put it in there.

Not sure at all, but that's the way it went. And I lied, this actually peaked at around 254 million AI, so BBP needs about 130 million more AI to catch up.
