And it sounded like the audience yelled, "so f*ck it"? lmao LOL I love that. That's how I sing it. That Whyya performance was better, but get the lyrics down Kelly! ;)

Now THAT is how you perform Whyyawanna...great, high-energy performance.
With regards to Did You, I like the verses and bridge, but I'm not shocked it was left off the album. Not that it's worse than anything on MD, but it's not overwhelmingly superior. It follows a trend I saw in a few MD songs...great verses, weak chorus. But Kelly's choruses on AIEW have been great, so it is clearly a hurdle she has overcome. These kinds of stepping stones are natural and to be expected in writing, and MD was her "stepping stone" it seems.
Not that MD was bad writing, but there were parts of it that were definitely more amateur, for me. Personally, I really like the album, but I also know Kelly could sing anything to me and I wouldn't really mind it, because her voice just does something for me. But I feel that AIEW is a stronger album as a whole--it's catchier (not that catchy is synonymous with superior), more cohesive, more diverse and I believe the writing is, in general, stronger--including the tracks she wrote.
Granted, as far as writing goes, Maybe and Irvine are far and away my favorite Kelly songs (I like Sober a lot, but I think Irvine and Maybe are lyrically superior), but in general AIEW is a more consistent effort, for me. As far as production, I love hearing Kelly's voice more stripped, but I think that kind of production almost takes away from its radio potential a bit.
In terms of defining career success as radio play, popularity and album sales (which Kelly definitely does not), I think if AIEW came after Breakaway, the public would be more receptive to MD. Kelly gained a tremendous amount of fans after Breakaway, so in many people's minds MD was her second album, not third (even many reviewers have called AIEW her third album, forgetting about Thankful entirely). And, to be fair, I think MD takes a little more time to appreciate. It's not instantly catchy and relatable the way Breakaway is--because it's more personal to Kelly. But, if she came out with an AIEW-esque album after Breakaway, something still definitely commercial but with more artistry laced throughout, I think something like MD could be seen as a nice change of pace--something more lowkey, stripped, and "for the fans."
This is all moot, I understand, because Kelly doesn't define success that way and is evidently happy with each of her albums and when they were released. As am I. I appreciated MD for what it was, and am so glad Kelly was able to do it when she did. I think she is a better songwriter because of it--it allowed her to grow into a stronger one by working on something so autonomously. All that being said, I tend to play AIEW and Breakaway as whole albums more often than I sit through MD, because I hear a lot of greatness, but I hear just as much potential (esp. with Judas, One Minute, and Never Again) as to what some songs could have been with a little outside help. Again, I'm glad she didn't take it, because I think she's a better artist because of it, but looking at MD all on its own, without any of the history or after-effects, I think it could have been stronger.
So, that's my very drawn out, unsolicited opinion on MD vs. AIEW. :)
