@ this fool saying that he has respect in the Black community. I would drag him, but I won't....

I will. He’s not sorry for the ignorant crap he spouted, he’s sorry that he got called on it. The tone of his “apologies” is completely “woe is me, everyone hates me now!” He doesn’t realize that his ego isn’t the center of the universe. His use of the n-word was unnecessary & offensive, no matter the context. His idiotic psychobabble about “what it means to be black” was equally stupid, he’ll never know what it means to be black, and he should have just left it at that. He has no class. The whole "hood pass" thing isn't even the worst of the interview. He insults Jews, women, declares his hatred for every other man on the planet, uses homophobic slurs, called white women crazy, and has no use for anyone over the age of 32. If I were Kerry Washington, I'd put a foot up his narrow behind. He does not know her, but he dragged her name into the gutter. Other than that, he is best ignored. Maybe then he will go away and take his pedestrian, derivative "music" with him. >:(

@ people taking ANYTHING this man SAYS seriously. His music speaks for itself. Are you KIDDING me? The man just needs to stop giving interviews and trying to court trouble, because when people think he is too boring, he dates a high profile chick or gives a stupid interview like this one. Keep doin what your doin, John. Keep making them classics and keep that mouth shut. Thank you. :)

I think it's obvious he looks for attention. This isn't the first douchey move he's ever made. He just got caught this time and it's backfiring.
He did the right thing and put the Twitter down cause it's annoying.

Why are people even bothering if attention is what he's lookin for (which I don't think he is; he was probably stoned or somethin').

36 38 JOHN MAYER COLUMBIA 19,584 +14% BATTLE STUDIES
I don't think it harmed him much considering he had an increase in sale.

And then please give me a list of artists that you like. Your response might give your rant some credibility. In any event, I do believe he is sorry and I don't think we'll hear comments like this from him ever again. A lot of the things he said were quite harsh even for his standards so I do think he must've been on something that day. But we'll probably get a song from him about this somewhere down the road even though "My Stupid Mouth" already fits the bill.

If Half Of My Heart is the next single, the album should have no trouble getting to platinum. With the right single choice, and Grammy love, this could sell around two million or more.

Just like with the last album, John nor his label seem too concerned with pushing singles out there properly. It's a crime that Slow Dancing in a Burning Room was never released and it's a crime again that they let Heartbreak Warfare go to waste.

"Slow Dancing..." despite not being released is arguably one of John's most popular songs. I wouldn't say that "Heartbreak Warfare" is going to waste. It's gone top five on HAC and I think AAA, and it's still gaining in the top 25 on Top 40.
John is one of those artists that sells well without great single choices. I guess that he's okay with that.

He's more of an album artist. I really liked Continuum but haven't been in to Battle Studies. I hear it's pretty good.

Continuum was the better work, but Battle Studies is really good also.
The next single is "Half of My Heart." It should be a huge hit on HAC and a pretty good one on CHR with a little luck.

I really want Edge Of Desire to be a single... One of my favorite songs of him, probably my favorite, along with I Don't Trust Myself...

Battle Studies is so poppish. Continuum's soulful, bluesy sound is his best.

I agree... Continuum is the better effort out of the two!

Continuum is probably the better effort, but I enjoy Battle Studies more, if that makes any sense. "Half Of My Heart" as the next single, and then either "Assassin", "Perfectly Lonely" or an edited "Friends, Lovers Or Nothing" as the fourth single makes the most sense to me.
I know it goes against popular opinion, but "Who Says" is easily my favourite John Mayer song, so I'm glad it was the first single. And I agree that "Slow Dancing..." should have been a single over "Dreaming With A Broken Heart". I think that was a big missed opportunity.

"Assassin" to me seems like the "Slow Dancing..." of Battle Studies. It's the obvious choice but it won't see the light of day as a single.
"Slow Dancing..." would have been huge. It's undeniable.

Ahhh, "Slow Dancing" is SOOO good. And "Assassin" is my favorite song on Battle Studies, it's killer live too. I don't even know how many copies this album has sold so far...I just bought tickets to see him at the end of July though. :)

I think that the last time I saw sales numbers it was around 800K. I think that it's probably close to 900K now.
I have never met a John fan who didn't like "Slow Dancing." To me, that is his best moment. It'll probably always be his best moment, actually.
I hope that you have a great time at the show!

Ahhh, I've seen him a ton of times - but when I went to see him in February, it was the best I had ever seen him. It was right after that whole controversy went down and he was just SO into every song, it was awesome.
Did you see his Crossroads w/ Keith Urban???

It is sublimely written, played and sung. I could hate all JM songs (and I don't, but just being hypothetical) and the quality of Gravity & EOD ALONE would be enough to make me stan for him. Does anyone hear have the live CD he did recently, Where The Light Is? The live version of Gravity kills me every time. I would DIE to hear a live version of Edge of Desire done that expertly. I have never seen John live, even though I have had plenty of chances, given the number of times he has come to Boston. I should take my mom as a gift next time he plays here. Oh...and gravity, I am one of the few fans that doesn't care for Slow Dancing. Blasphemous, I know but I always skip it.

Everything it's been on TV I've had something else that had to get done.

I love the part, "There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me." That sums up the last year of my life perfectly. His live CD was phenomenal. Gravity and Free Fallin' are my favorites. You don't like Slow Dancing? *sigh* That's just asinine. Is there something in particular that you don't like about it? Even people that hate John like that song...

Any other HUGE Mayer fans on this board? I still enjoy his music a lot, even though I think "Battle Studies" isn't on par with his three previous albums. I just felt that album dilutes all of Mayer's most enthralling qualities as an artist and just comes across as an overly safe record, bereft of Mayer's virtuoso slowhand guitar styling and the more topical diversity of his earlier albums. Despite my admission, I do consider "Assassin" one of his finest individual tracks to date, and "Who Says", which I thought was a clumsy lead single choice but nonetheless loved as an individual track, has only gotten better the more I listen to it. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus
