I'm trying to access the Mediabase site that lists the weekly spin totals, and I'm now being told I need to log in. Does anybody know if this is a permanent change?

^Probably permanent, but here's a way to bypass all of that. Go to this page: www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/Reports/Reg/EMDMenu.asp?sngcde=After the '=', put the first four letter of the band or stage name of an artist you want. For example, Paramore is PARA and Lady GaGa's is LADY. For one person artists that use a "name" name, then it's the first four letter of their last name. For example, Kelly Clarkson's is CLAR, Lily Allen's is ALLE, etc. After that, it's the first four abbreviations letters for the song title. For example, Clarkson's "My Life..." is MLWS, etc. The word 'the' is not used for the codes if it's at the beginning of the artist or song title. Sometimes you might have to put numbers at the end of the code to disambiguate between songs. Like to find Lily Allen's "Smile", you have to put ALLES6 as there were five songs released before it that have the code ALLES. You must also put '+' between spaces if the artist name isn't long enough for four letters. Such as Flo Rida. All his codes are FLO+ etc. Right Round's would be FLO+RR. Add a space for every missing letter. So for like T.I.'s "Whatever You Like", the code would be TI++WYL.

Thanks, tcatron565. How would you enter a song like Beyonce's "Halo"? Tried "BEYOH," but that brings up Honesty," as it wasa one-word title that behan with H, and was released before "Halo." The trickery involved. hehe

What about for the video channels? For example, I looked up a song that was in regular rotation on VH1 4 years ago and the "To Date" number for VH1 was zero. But another song I looked up that was played on Vh1 2 years ago, had data listed. Just curious.

^Well, total spins are always up to date, but for specific formats, it's always off for some reason.

How would you enter Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" I tried, "gooi," "ggdi," etc and nothing happens. I tried "flee" for fleetwood mac and that worked, but not sure how toenter Goo Goo. lol
Yeah, the to-date spins are only from a certain time- they were reset at some point. There was a time when they were actually up to date, from when Mediabase started tracking airplay.
And, for the record- does anyone know exactly when Mediabase started tracking? I gather it was sometime in 1998, but can't tell for sure when. I ruled out late 1997, as totals for some hits around that time would be a lot higher if that were the case.
I'm thinking maybe from the start of 1998? Taking Madonna's "Frozen"- it has 69,000+ spins to date- did well initially, but hasn't prospered in the recurrent life. "Ray of Light" has 77,000+- not as big as '"Frozen' initially, but more recurrent play. "The Power of Good-Bye" has almost 38,000- that seems to definitely cover its whole run, given its initial airplay performance.
One other thing I've wondered about- the to-date number of spins probably takes into account airplay at formats not shown in the Quick-Cut page? Because oftentimes, the number will increase more than what the total weekly airplay spins info shows.
What's fascinating, though, is how the small number of dance stations have boosted airplay sums for tracks like "Sorry" and "Give it 2 Me," which didd not do well at all at Pop (unlike TPOG). Yet "Sorry" has 50,000+ spins to date lol

Another question: How would you look up Janet jackson's "Just a Little While"?
I tried:
jackjalw1 (as there's a Mahalia Jackson song that had jalw first)- but nothing janejalw: Nothing
I even tried variations of the title, like lmfa (loveme for a little while), even though I know it's listed as Just a Little While. Thanks. :)

^ The link tcatron565 posted? No, it definitely works. It's just incomplete; without the song code, the page doesn't work because it's trying to access something that doesn't exist. A much easier way to get the song codes is to go to addboard.mediabase.com/SongsMenu.asp and search for either the song title or artist you're looking for. Copy the code from that, add it to the end of the link tcatron565 provided and it'll take you to the pre-Quick Cut page where it asks if you want the building or rolling data.

Unless anyone has already noticed, the Callout tab is no longer in display and for the Canadian formats, the AI values are all listed at zero.
Just another sign of strange things happening at Mediabase...

It seems I can no longer access the information on this site, even using the new way. Anybody else notice this?

Only if you're able to get into Mediabase.com. There's a user name and password floating around somewhere. (Hint: type "Mediabase.com passwords" into Google.)

So... ahem... does anyone wanna go in with me to get an account? If 3 of us go in together, all 3 of us will be able to gain access to the site for about $185/month from each person. Thing is, though, anyone willing has to understand upfront that this data is for personal use only and we can't go publishing it all the time here on Pulse otherwise we'll lose access.
I'm being dead serious about this. I can absolutely afford that payment. Also, it's a steal. 1 user costs $300, so this is nearly 40% off. (2 users is $225/month each BTW. I was not given any pricing info for more than 3 users.)

I am tempted by this, but I need to find out whether and how much of a raise I am getting at work, which I should know within the next 2-3 weeks. I have wanted to play with back data for a long time, especially since Radio & Records didn't start using Mediabase until 1999. I've wanted to examine regional charts & performance for songs, songs that never made top 40 on certain formats, Europe-like airplay charts where there's no recurrents, unsolicited spins, and an all-genre chart for the 90s. Also, do you know what kind of views are available for the data? Also, if someone needs to back out of the account because of money, can we make some kind of plan or agreement for that? For example: - Can I make a regional chart for a single market or a group of states?
- Can I see an inception to date of all spins and audience impressions
- Can the data be downloaded to be played with offline?
- Do they have a list of artists to pick from or is it just text-based searching?
