Wow, doing nicely. Is this purely fueled by the sample or is there actual hype surrounding this girl/song?

Doesn't seem to be any hype to me....just around the song itself.

Wow, doing nicely. Is this purely fueled by the sample or is there actual hype surrounding this girl/song? It's a catchy tune, with or without the sample...It's reminscent of Rihanna...It's radio-friendly. I don't think Kristinia DeBarge has been given any hype at all...She's pretty come come out of nowhere with this song.

This is gimmicky to me. I think that's pretty much the only reason this is rising as fast as it is, besides it being really catchy. Saying that, this won't have a problem reaching Top 10 IMO. The true test will be how she follows this up, unless her and IDJ decide to release something equally as gimmicky.

They are nice...but not 'wow' commercial wise. IMHO

I listened this song just once. I was walking on the street singing "nananana hey goodbye" lmao, it got stucked in my head for like 8 blocks and now I can't remember the hook. It will be huge, its an instant hit.

Heard this for the first time today, twice within a matter of hours. I love it!
At first, I thought it was Rihanna. But then I decided that this person sings better than Rihanna.
I'm shocked at how well this is doing right from the start.

If this were Ri Ri's song, it would have been massive because of the fight with Chris. The lyrics are synonymous in a way.

It's not nearly as present when she sings, so I understand the confusion.

Rihanna's accent is almost non-existant when she sings so the similarities are definitely there.
I think this will go top 5, possibly even to #1!

Played this at the end of last night's The Hills. I hadn't heard it but I had seen this thread title a lot and when I heard her say Goodbye in the song I put two and two together. I loved it! Maybe it's just because it was an intense moment on The Hills? IDK

it is interesting to note, that the most memorable part of the song ("nananana hey goodbye") was sampled / derived from another big hit.. and the whole SOS comparison doesn't help the credibility (for lack of better word) of this song. But i'm not the target audience, so it doesn't matter. Just calling it like I see it. i wish her the best... even though I don't really care for the song. ;)

Just letting people know that I do have a theory why this is picking up so well...
1) This is being used on a commercial that is being broadcasted on hundreds on stations across the country, including two of the major local stations. The commercial started airing about a month ago.
2) The DeBarge name, no matter how unknown that is to the general public, did influence some stations to add it.
3) The song samples a huge and extremely catchy hit. ("Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" by Steam)
4) The sound of the song and her voice is reminiscent to that of Rihanna's "SOS". It can also be related to Flo Rida's "Right Round (feat. Kesha)" as well.
5) For some strange reason, Z100 decided to add this very early. It's adds date was actually today, but Z100 has been all over this for two weeks now.
