i still maintain guetta's insistence on taking top billing is interfering with this song's success. his appearance with her on stage at so you think you can dance is considered laughable by the dance forum on here and dj rico's very popular site. i'm over the song at this point but still hoping tony moran's mix will be released eventually.

It's still America's 'aversion' to dance music after the whole 'disco sucks' backlash that has prevented dance/electronic music from doing all that well in the U.S. There have been exceptions to all that (like the Cascada, September, Alice Deejay, Sonique, Eiffel 65, Pitbull, etc). Note that I didn't include the ones that had alternate ballad version during their initial run. The Cascada and September ones came out towards the end of their runs in the U.S. Outside the U.S. in most countries, Dance/Electronic music charts rather regularly.
There was no shortage of Dance/Electronic music in the 80's and 90's on the charts like all the new wave, synthpop, freestyle during the 80's and then the italo-house, house, and eurodance during the 90's.

True. That was sort of new territory for her as she hadn't done any dance-oriented songs up until that time. Of course there was that brief foray into Disco music in the late 70's. In some of the years prior to "Believe", there were remixes done for some of her singles including "Love & Understanding", "One By One", "Paradise Is Here", etc. I had read that her next album may be dance-oriented too.

What was this "disco sucks" backlash? An angry backlash against disco music and culture emerged in the United States hitting its peak with the July 1979 Disco Demolition Night riot. While the popularity of disco in the United States declined markedly as a result of the backlash, the genre continued to be popular elsewhere during the 1980s. The whole Italo Disco/EuroBeat/Hi-NRG sound began to emerge during the early 80s. Keep in mind that this backlash was moreso within the mainstream. Disco music continued to be played in the clubs. more from Wikipedia: The popular 1977 film Saturday Night Fever prompted major record labels to mass-produce hits, a move which some perceived as turning the genre from something vital and edgy into a safe "product" homogenized for mainstream audiences. Though disco music had enjoyed several years of popularity, an anti-disco sentiment manifested in America. This sentiment proliferated at the time because of oversaturation and the big-business mainstreaming of disco. Worried about declining profits, rock radio stations and record producers encouraged this trend. According to Gloria Gaynor, the music industry supported the destruction of disco because rock music producers were losing money and rock musicians were losing the spotlight.[32] Many hard rock fans expressed strong disapproval of disco throughout the height of its popularity. Among these fans, the slogan "Disco Sucks" was common by the late 1970s and appeared in written form in places ranging from tee shirts to graffiti.[33] Example of Disco Sucks T-Shirt In the late 1970s, Disco music and dancing fads began to be depicted by rock music fans as silly and effeminate, such as in Frank Zappa's satirical song "Dancin' Fool". Some listeners objected to the perceived sexual promiscuity and illegal drug use that had become associated with disco music. Others were put off by the exclusivity of the disco scene, especially in major clubs in large cities such as the Studio 54 discotheque, where bouncers only let in fashionably-dressed club-goers, celebrities, and their hangers-on. Rock fans objected to the idea of centering music around an electronic drum beat and synthesizers instead of live performers. Some historians have referred to July 12, 1979 as "the day disco died" because of an anti-disco demonstration that was held in Chicago. Rock station DJs Steve Dahl and Garry Meier, along with Michael Veeck, son of Chicago White Sox owner Bill Veeck, staged Disco Demolition Night, a promotional event with an anti-disco theme, between games at a White Sox doubleheader for disgruntled rock fans. During this event, which involved exploding disco records, the raucous crowd tore out seats and turf in the field and did other damage to Comiskey Park. It ended in a riot in which police made numerous arrests. The damage done to the field forced the Sox to forfeit the second game to the Detroit Tigers who won the first game. The stadium suffered thousands of dollars in damage. On July 21 six days after the riot the top six records on the U.S. charts were of the disco genre. By September 22 there were no disco records in the top 10. The media in celebratory tones declared disco dead and rock revived.[22] The anti disco backlash combined with other societal and radio industry factors changed the face of pop radio in the years following disco-demolition night. Top 40 radio stations shied away playing music from black artists in an effort to prevent their stations from being labeled with the dreaded "disco" tag. These stations converted to a variety of niche formats. One of the more popular of these formats Country Music fell into favor when Saturday Night Fever star John Travolta had a hit with the film Urban Cowboy a movie that has been perceived as a rejection of disco. [22] The television industry — taking a cue from the music industry — responded with an anti-disco agenda as well. A recurring theme on the television show WKRP in Cincinnati contained a hateful attitude towards disco music. It should be noted that, unlike in the U.S., there was never a focused backlash against disco in Europe, and discotheques and the Disco culture continued past 1980 in Europe. It was during this backlash and decline that several record companies were folded, reorganized or sold. TK Records closed in 1981. ABC Records was sold to MCA Records in 1979, which shut down the label. Casablanca Records' founder Neil Bogart was forced out in 1980 by label owner PolyGram. RSO Records founder Robert Stigwood left the label in 1981.

Did it ever make the weekly countdowns? If not, this could still have a chance of a new peak this weekend...

Yeah, I just checked tha AT40 thread (thanks to jasonharper2004), and it is featured this week as a Breakout! Good! Although the bad news is that "Hush Hush; Hush Hush", WLTO's main rival will also be featured. Hopefully WLTO is more benefitted this time

Well the fact that it is featured this week on AT-40 means a couple things. 1, its spin totals will increase, an 2, AT40 will continue to play the song until it hits the chart (as I understand it...has any breakout song NOT charted?).
I finally heard/recorded the song 2 weeks ago when it aired on Open House party. Unlikely to be 'added' to my CHR WIHT. I dont recall hearing it on Pulse87 when I was in NYC on the 4th either(nor the 3 hours of Pulse I recorded while there).

I think "Lost" by Menudo was a breakout that didn't chart. That's the only one I can think of.
EDIT: But this song definitely will chart.

In addition to AT40, let's hope this will be played on Open House Party this week at least once. It may not be a ton of spins, but every little bit helps. :)

The addition of New York's WXRK to the pop panel temporarily halts WLTO's slide. 7/24/0931 31 DAVID GUETTA When Love Takes Over 1495 1519 -24 8.830 +26 spins +22 bullet +0.394 audience But Quick Cut tells a different story. Surprising update today. It lost those many spins DESPITE being heard on AT40. Although most of the radio stations play the countdown on Sunday, still a song debuting on AT$0 gets some initial boost on the Sunday morning update (+20-30), so this one had a BIG drop spins on regular programming of radios. Sad :(

such a shame this is already falling, it's an amazing song, David Guetta found a perfect way to mix dance with pop/R&B from Kelly. CHR doesn't give much of a chance to dance tracks :(

Disappointing update to be honest. Check the effect of AT40 on "Hush Hush :...; Hush Hush" : +87 spins compared to the official Sunday update Instead, DaGue&KRow only had a +25 This seems ready to fall. Soooo sad. And I keep wondering: Why picking up the forgettable "I'm in Miami Trick" instead of this one

*beats WLTO's chest in an attempt to perform CPR* 7/27/0930 32 DAVID GUETTA When Love Takes Over 1420 1512 -92 8.253 -33 spins -53 bullet -0.600 audience Alternative: 1 spin (=) Hot AC: 41 spins (-4) CHR/Pop: 1727 spins (-17) CHR/Rhythmic: 324 spins (-4)TOTAL: 2093 spins (-25)9.397 million audience impressions (-0.612)*stops CPR and notes time of death* In the little too little and little too late column, WLTO scores three adds this week: WXRK New York (added to pop panel) WKSZ Green Bay WSTO Evansville I'm pretty sure the label has now given up the fight, especially since David Guetta's new single, "Sexy Bi*ch," was released to iTunes today and has already shattered WLTO's peak by smashing into the top 30. All in all, WLTO was added to 71 out of 131 monitored Top 40 reporters, which is more than I expected for a pure dance track. Its somewhat lackluster performance, however, may actually make some of these stations think twice before adding similar sounding songs in the future. But it seems to have definitely opened some doors for David Guetta, which can only be a good thing in the long run.

no, because he produced the song for himself, not for others. That's how billing works, popularity of an artists is secondary. Just like its Wale ft Lady Gaga or Shontelle ft Akon.

well that's fine then....people will now associate the flopping of this song with DAVID GUETTA and not kelly
