I am a great Daughtry fan (and for many years to come) - but i have to be honest about my disappointment in them :( For now, I just feel that they are not really pushing themselves hard enough to sell the band, the single, the album and the tour fall. As a result, I fear for their future - Really!!! In fact - from what I have read and observed - they seem pretty complacent with their current 'achievements' and lack an acute sense of urgency!I am sure that they are aware that the entertainment business - underneath that glamorous veneer - is extremely competitive and that every second counts for your survival!
Apart from the club tour- which is clearly an indulgent for their fans and does not really help in creating real publicity and new fans - and some questionable overseas trips (which created totally no buzz) - they are actually inactive most of the times!!! I thought they already had lots of rest shortly after the initial llauch???What happens to the good old work ethics of working your butt off to seal your current success?!!!
Strategically speaking, the string of promotion/markeing/pr/communication activites after the launch is nothing short of a disjointed series of start-and-stop publicity which actually go nowhere at all!!!!
Right now - the latest leak for their album sales strongly indicate that it is plummeting heavily. I would not be surprise if next week's figure is just a few thousands. Also, I am quite sure that tickets are moving unsatisfactory for their fall tour. As for the current single - lets just say that it is a heavy dead weight and only 'succeeded' in stalling/killing the sales momentum. And don't even get started on the choice for the 2nd single - I honestly think it's moment (by the time it arrives) has already come and gone :( if you know what I mean.
End of the day - I just want the band to crawl out of their comfortzone for good (for the time being it takes to bring the shine back) to fight a good battle!!!! Go out and just sell themselves, the band, the album and their fall tour!!!!! You guys are so talented and have such great songs in the 2nd album - so the battle is already half won :)

Interesting post penpal99. First, per Hits, it looks like album sales are hanging in there pretty good. This album will surely sell 2-3 million by the time all the singles are released. It takes a lot to get a big tour up and going and since this is their first major headlining tour putting the set together the first time may take even longer. There's only so much PR available to rock bands these days. I was surprised they weren't on the VMAs (I didn't watch but I assume they weren't) though.
In the spring he'll get one or two AI appearances which will bump sales. I don't think the situation is as dire as you implied. Hang in there. Chris has received more PR over the past 3-4 years than any other rock artist I know (except maybe Green Day and Coldplay). You can't expect that kind of exposure forever. It's not going to happen. He's not the type of artist to make the tabloids to keep his name out there and he isn't a teen star. I'm sure he'll be everywhere again soon enough.
As for the tour, as I stated, I'm interested in seeing some pollstar numbers. I'm sure the tour will be successful but I'm wondering how big a draw the band is at this stage. I honestly don't know.

Very interesting post penpal. IMO we haven't heard and seen much of them cause they're getting ready for the tour. It's a big one and their first big tour. Also, cause even though NS has gone to top 10, I don't think it's a song people are talking about or that leaves much impact. That kind of kills the buzz. And the album is not exploding the way the last one did, which, 3 years ago, got them lots of attention. Different times.
As for the second single, that's RCA and I just don't get them. I like to think they know what they're doing, but we don't even have a title yet, right?
Just curious, how do you know this? Btw, do you know if they're selling full venues or just part of the arenas? From what I've seen there's been some good promo for the tour.

Aww penpal99, I understand what you're feeling. Hopefully, everything will turn out ok in the end! :) Atgs - Nope, no word yet about the 2nd single. All of them are still at their respective hometowns. They have not shot any video yet and haven't practiced for the tour either. Well, I'm just assuming because they're still at their hometowns. I agree about the press thing, Rumors. It's kinda bittersweet really - I'm very, very happy that Chris is the type that stays out of the media/press hoopla but at the same time you gotta keep yourself out there to stay relevant. Good question about the arena tour too! I'm also curious if they're using just a part of the venue or the entire thing. The thing that confuses me is why they don't release Rock singles and stick with the HAC type ballads as singles but then they tour with bands like Nickelback, TOAD or Cavo. If they wanted to be a soft Rock band, shouldn't they be touring with like Lifehouse or the Fray? Very mixed signals really. It's like they don't know what they want. Then again, those are handled by different entities - RCA handles the singles and 19M handles the tour so... Go figure.

Well, it's not like they had to go out of their way to get a spot on tour with Cavo and ToaD. Nickelback is pretty much remembered as a pop act these days. They'll have a token rock hit or two per album, but Nickelback isn't really targeting rock audiences as much anymore. Don't let Cavo and ToaD's first singles fool you, those bands are trying to go down the same path that Daughtry and Nickelback have blazed. See "Not Meant to Be" and Cavo's latest single, "Crash." Touring with them isn't Daughtry reaching out to the rock crowd, it's Cavo and Theory reaching out to the HAC crowd.

I agree that this was an extremely weak lead single. It was a hit, but got pretty much no buzz and didn't really make much of a mark for them. I doubt it will be remembered in a year or two and it certainly won't go down as one of their better songs. Everything about it was average, including the unmemorable video. I liked it and it grew on me, but it's nothing special. It sounds like a decent album track, not a lead single.
I haven't heard the album but I've heard good things about it, so hopefully they have some treasures stocked up because this was a pretty weak effort.
