Wow... take a chill pill... You just said the answer to your question yourself... This song is a UNIVERSAL song, everybody can relate to it... We all have gone out to party, we all have felt tired or stressed by work or school, we all have just wanted to throw it all out and have fun... That's the reason this song is a massive hit Don't worry, I'm quite relaxed. But that doesn't actually answer anything, there are plenty of other universal songs out there, the first one I can think of is Bye Bye, which we all know was not a huge hit by any standard. What I asked was not why this is successful, but rather if there were an explanation for this songs "unending longevity." Don't you mean "One Sweet Day?" That song lasted 16 weeks on top of the Hot 100.

Assuming it'll be #1 on Wed/Thurs's chart, it's 12 weeks now?

I think the proble for IGF next week is Run This Town and no Empire State of Mind. ESOM has only 10 milion airplay they will need to sell almost 100k more than IGF and I think that is a bit difficult. RTT has like 80 million audience and is getting huge updates and they performed yesterday, this song even has like 4 versions in the top 200 on Itunes. I just hope people get mad with Kanye West ad stop buying this song.
I want IGF break the record for must weeks at #1.

BEP will be #1 this week. Next week is a little hard to decide. "Run This Town" and "Down" keep gaining and I don't even know if they'll even tie "We Belong Together"/"Macarena".

all depends on total point though right? Does it have enough total points to get another few weeks at #1??

It's definitely #1 tomorrow, after that it's up against tough competition from several songs. "Down" and "Empire State of Mind" have the best chances to knock it down.

C'mon, hang in there BEP! If they would have performed this at the VMA's 14 weeks would be a stronger possibility.

This needs to die a bit faster on pop. Taylor needs at least one week at #1!!!!! Then I could care less how fast it falls or rebounds, whatever.
