People.com has said Taylor Swift will be performing at the MTV VMAs on September 13th. She will be the first confirmed Performer.
Russell Brand will return as Host of the VMAs 2009. Muse has been confirmed to perform also at the VMAs 2009.

Seriously, you'd think that MTV would learn from the people's reaction to Brand that they would obviously choose someone new. I sense a repeat of last year, Exact.

Russell again?
I'm sorry but a comedian that goes and apologizes for a joke said about useless little Disney poofs with abysmal music and faux-righteous beliefs merely because something as vacuous as an American Idol reject had a vain, prudish problem with it is a bit crap and needs to pack it in.

Rusell again? I like him, but once was perfectly fine. I hate it when show's chose the same person to host over and over again. They need someone new each year. If they want to bring him back next year fine, but not two years in a row...
Shouldn't we be getting the nominees any time now or until August?
If they do it right, they can have great performances and make this better than years past. The whole performing in different places things is kind of stupid IMO. Build different stages inside the arena and there!

I don't think he was good at all hosting :S, to me he wasn't any funny... I don't know how the nominees will be decided this year, I was expecting the VMA's website to provide that information right away, but they jusy say that the nominess will be announced in the upcoming weeks, they don't say if the fans get to vote again to decide them or not. I have a feeling that will be fan voting again, which I absolutely hate. MTV should decide the nominees not the fans. The VMA's are all about popularity and not music or videos so...

Russell was awful last year and annoying. I am not looking forward to the VMAS this year...though I would like to see Muse perform.
How do we know that Twitter account is fake? It seemed to link to the official Billboard website....

I agree with pdc1987. I'd like to see someone with a pair actually host. Bring back Chris Rock, please. He was the most unapologetic host in VMA history and he went after everyone that could be teased. I think it's humbling for a celebrity (especially if you're not a legendary artist) to be mocked at these kind of award ceremonies. Of course certain fans of artists that are likely to be targets would not agree, but hey, it's all in good fun. The VMAs have begun to take themselves too seriously and that's why they suck. It's all hype, gloss and no delivery. Scale it back and watch the tapes from the 1980s and early 90s, producers. You are not supposed to be creating this prestigious, glittery event, you are supposed to be having fun. They tried with the Vegas theme, but it failed because, once again, they got their heads up their asses trying to be "innovative," instead of keeping it simple. If it ever gets back to the idea of being fun and not trying too hard, I think the VMAs can be good again.
As far as nominations are concerned, I think the problem is that MTV doesn't play videos in the first place, so they half-ass everything when it comes to the nomination process. Why would they actually put any effort into the awards when they don't put any effort into the channel? They let the fans choose sometimes, because they don't care enough to do it themselves, and they have very little information to go on because the channel is essentially reality television. Logic.

Nominees are announced already... you're talking about the nominations list that appeared on wikipedia for example, because that's a fake one. the official site doesn't have that list or any other info about the nominees.

No Britney... her era is done (Radar Won't do much) and I don't think she'll release another single (is she?)... let her keep touring and doing her concerts which is working well for her.

Britney pretty much is the VMA's and has been since 2000. The only time the awards are interesting is when she is there.

I hope a great list of artists can be there this year. And dear lord it HAS to be better than last years absolute MESS. Pink was the only decent performer.
I love Russell but he didn't go a very good job lasy year. Here's hoping he is more adjusted into the role.
Here are some things that would ME want to watch the show when it airs:
Pink opening up with a medley that showcases the very best of her tour (great chance to promo her US leg as well.) I'm talking about opening the show with Funhouse (and the crazy dancing she does, just like the tour), hitting the acrobats for Sober, jaming to PLDM and then closing with the SMASHING So What. And lets face it. It really IS her time to shine in the States.
Either Madonna or Mariah (or both!?) performing. Maraih performing LIVE and WELL. Madonna putting on an awesome show (will Madonna still be on tour in September?)
Lady Gaga putting on a fantastic live show that will promote her new tour with Kanye and up and coming re-release (with her new hit!?!?!?!)
Rihanna premiering her new HOT SMASH SINGLE.
A possible Janet tribute to MJ (otherwise I don't know if there should be a tribute at all... when is it all too much?)
No Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. Dear lord they really do detract from any awards show.
A MUCH better stage set up than last years piece of shit. Why not take a look at the stages back in the 80's/90's shows? They were the simle stage set up and it worked fine. Having 100 stages doesn't make for a good show. It makes for a disjointed one.
Those are a few things that may make the night decent. If all of them could happen and all be executed well... we could be in for a great night, otherwise it will be yet another DUD!

Madonna's last tour date is her second show in Tel Aviv, Israel on September 2nd. So she'll technically be available. Also, her GH is supposedly out 2 days after the VMAs on September 15th, and the single "Celebrate" will be in full swing by then. The thing is, Madonna has ignored the VMA's existence ever since 2003, I doubt she'll show. And I can't really blame her, the VMA's have been horrendous from 2004 onward and are so far below acts of her caliber.

Madonna performing at the VMAs? Too good to be true. It would also be proper promotion, and Madonna is allergic to proper album/single promotion.

I'm just going to say right now that Gaga will probably have the big "event" performance of the night and will likely get the most nominations/wins
