Just took another listen. IMO, the dance beat/RedOne is so unnecessary. It sort of lacks the "epic pop song" sound that they usually have. Everything is overshadowed by the shoddy production. A pop backing track would fit better.

It's such an obvious attempt to try and ride the coattails of the dance pop movement of the moment, but whenever older artists try to fit a current trend it almost always fails.

They have songs produced by Redone, who did GaGa's three singles. It's his sound, not hers. GaGa didn't even synthpop or dance-pop. Can we please stop acting like she did...Even Rihanna had some dance-pop hits before GaGa's in the US. No, its Gaga's sound. She was a DJ underground and performed this same genre. I saw her way back when and didnt really like her lol but she was doing it before with Starlight. Its not completely Redone's sound. Once again, it is not like she came out of nowhere. She has been working the music scene for a long time. Redone production does not mean anything if the artist does not already believe in the sound. The three singles are RedOne's sound...not hers...He did that same exact music with Kat DeLuna before her...Just because she performed dance-pop music underground, like millions of others before her, doesn't make EVERY dance-pop song 'her sound.' This song doesn't sound very much like GaGa's RedOne songs anyway...it is produced by RedOne. She's got some great dance-pop tunes, but in Europe and Asia people have been using that sound since 2000. Did Kylie Minogue and Ayumi Hamasaki somehow copy GaGa back in 2002? Give me a break. I'm sick of this shit. I love Lady GaGa but her fans are dillusional. I've been listening to this style of music and loving it for years and years before GaGa existed as an underground performer, let alone a major label artist, working with RedOne's signature specific sounds (like the horn, and the Eurotrance synthlines leading the song)... Sorry, I wasn't born yesterday. I was alive before 2008.

^ I love Gaga, but +1. She didn't create a new sound.
I am really loving this, but I don't think this is a "comeback single" or anything.

^ BSB still has a very loyal fanbase. And no matter what people think we all know who they are. Most of my girlfriends can still name who their favorite Backstreet Boy was. And AJ and Nick are like 30! People act like they're like 100 years old. Sheesh. And... I'm obsessed with this song! It's sooo good! They just keep making me so happy with their music. I have more BSB songs on my ipod than any other artist. I have 78 songs of theirs! Their albums are suprisingly filler free. The deep cuts are actually the best ones.

I agree with whoever said it sounds more like "Takin' Back My Love" than it does RedOne's work with Gaga. The improvement it has on that song is that the chorus is fleshed out and there's no duet partner whose vocals come off sounding comparatively thin. (And don't get me wrong - I'm fine with Ciara. That was just a poor way to use her, in my opinion.) The lyrical layering at the end of this song is a bit messy, though. Overall, it's decent. I like it. Don't love it. Don't think this will be too successful, but it might get some minor play a la "Inconsolable."

Ciara totally brought down that song! As soon as she starts "singing" the energy goes dooooown...Get the German version with Sarah Connor.

While doing my daily rounds of blog-surfing yesterday, I came across a stale crumb from the ’90s that I thought had died for forever: the Backstreet Boys. The boys of BSB have pried themselves out of the peaceful hammock of marriage and rehab to punch out a new single… and (maybe this is just the Generation Y nostalgia talking) it’s good. Who would have thought that the Backstreet Boys could stand the test of time? Let me pose a question to naysayers: why does a “comeback” band’s new single need to automatically suck? Let’s strip away the Backstreet Boys’ embarrassing stigma for a second and look at their track objectively. 1. “Straight Through My Heart” was produced by all the right people. Even if the Backstreet Boys failed to extend their reign into the new millennium, they still know how to pick a producer. Leading dance/Europop/club music producer RedOne took the reigns on the Backstreet Boys’ comeback, and he did his job. The Swedish/Moroccan production artist comes equipped with a gleaming resume, having produced Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and “Poker Face,” and has also worked with other bona-fide pop artists like fellow Swede Robyn, Akon, New Kids on the Block, and Christina Milian. In conclusion, not all cred has to be snobby cred. In the world of pop/Eurodance music, RedOne has barrels of it. 2. Dance clubs have needs, too. Have any of you been to the clurrb recently? “Straight Through My Heart” was written with dancers in mind. Its synthy, Euro-fied beats are trend-friendly and utterly danceable, recalling today’s bubblegum singers (Miley Cyrus, Pussycat Dolls, Kylie Minogue). This doesn’t necessarily give the boys any artistic integrity, but did they ever have that? Madonna is a key figure of the ’80s. So why does she get to perform well into her 50s scorn-free? Maybe if the Backstreet Boys were women, they’d have a little more slack with audiences. But, I digress. The point here is that every musical genre serves a purpose. And Euro-dance/pop has its purpose in the clurrbs. 3. It’s (grudgingly) getting good feedback. News of a new Backstreet Boys single has pushed its way through the blogs. Idolator and Perez Hilton have covered it, and are currently streaming “Straight Through My Heart.” Idolator’s Maura Johnston is addicted: “This song is definitely built to bring them into the mold of current retrograde synthpop. I can’t stop listening to it! And not because of some weird tech problem, either.” flavorwire.com/30692/3-reasons-why-youll-like-the-new-backstreet-boys-single

Them and record company need to pimp this. I dont know if they have anything stronger, so they better promo this correctly. Also the impact date is 17th. It will officially added on the clear channel stations. Hope it picks up speed closer to that date.

Thanks for the info. I've been wanting to know how this is doing. Sounds like a decent pre-adds start. They need to do some promo ASAP. The TCA would have been perfect.

From what I thought they were, all their songs have been pretty decent size hits on radio, in Canada anyway, I thought they did well on US radio as well, but I guess Im wrong? Maybe just Toronto loves them!

Why aren't stations spinning this? I know it's BSB, but dammit, this song is FIYAH! They should at least give them a chance! >:(
