Might be his first CHR hit in what seems like centuries. With Kanye and Rihanna, this will be pretty big.

You better believe people here will be going "FINALLY Jay Z releases something good" because it''ll be pop orientated.

Oh my god..what a trio..I really wanna hear it..I hope this be a good songs..There were so many duets that disappointed me..The biggest might be "beautiful liar"..that song was so bad so I hope this be sick and help rihanna to re-start her career again..

Swagga like Us was dark? is that a joke? Darker than Living Your Life? F*ck yes. Did I say it was 'dark'? No, but now you mention it the big ominous minor chord melody, seizure/nightmare-like repetition of the hook, aggressive narcissistic rap verses with the distorted frantic production make it pretty damn dark for a song that went Top 5 on the Hot 100. In fact, name a 'darker' song that went Top 5 in the last year...or were you just being a smart ass?

What does chart position have to do with your statement? Im not even going to fully address your pretentious, BS, analysis of the song's arrangement. "seizure/nightmare like"? are you serious? The song's message is not dark at all. Thats not the point of the song at all. aggression and darkness are not mutually exclusive. I think you've made all the wrong assumptions from a song that is merely following a trend of production and elements that are very much a part of rap and hip/hop culture. The song went top 5 because of the all-star cast, not because of its 'dark' nature. You are make all sorts of false correlations. I have no idea why you are coming across as so aggressive.

Awesome RiRi+Kanye! Could care less about Jay, the guy is easily the most overrated rapper of all time.

I hope this doesn't flop like "When You Believe" but right now it seems like a really strong combination of stars

Jay-Z, Kanye, and RiRi on one song...If this doesn't hit, something's wrong. Top 10, just on name.

Why do I have to name a darker song that went top 5? Chart position, and the genre/tone of the song has everything to do with my post. I simply said I wanted something darkER than Live Your Life...(which Swagga Like Us is ANY way you try and argue it). And you come on and patronizingly sweep by basically saying "SLU dark???!!! RU KIDDING ME roflcopter!!" as though I said it was Slipknot. I'm familiar enough with the trends of rap and hip hop, thanks though. 'Swagga' was so successful because of its all star cast, true. If 'Run' becomes hugely successful, then it will no doubt be partly for the same reason. My point, which YOU seem to have missed is: for what is no doubt going to be Jay's most 'mainstream/pop' track in a while, I hope it's less schmaltzy and sentimental like 'Live Your Life' and instead darkER and more narcissistic like Swagga (a comparable hip-pop track with an all star cast that was very successful). I was merely saying for a Top 20 Pop song, and Top 5 billboard hit - all star cast or no all star cast, it's darker in tone and sound (if not lyrics) than the majority of songs that have done the same thing. The message for 'Swagga' isn't lost on me. As much as my (brief, fairly straightforward) analysis of it annoyed you, you seem to not believe a lot of what people write..."Are you kidding/are you serious?" Do you mean this or is it a sound byte you throw out? Could the sound of the hook be described as nightmare like? Yes. Is the stuttered/frenzied repetition of the line seizure-like? Yes. Stop over analyzing what I've written for the sole purpose of disagreeing with me/asking if I'm serious. I am. I'll make it clear when I'm joking.

If it helps freedomtime, I completely agree with you. I've always thought of SLU as a strangely sinister and aggressive track. The synths and all four of the MC's deliveries back that up.
I hope this cut is in the same vein. Very excited to hear this.

And I suppose it's up to interpretation, but I think sinister is the perfect way to describe Swagga (which I thought was the sh*t). Again, I hope Run This Town is along the same line...cool, cocky etc.

Hope I like this cuz he's capable of so much more than DOA.
Oh and yeah, Swaaga Like Us is definitely a "dark" track.

I haven't LOVED a song from Jay Z in years. Probably since "99 Problems" in 2004. I hope this is good especially with Kanye and Rihanna being on the track.
