How exactly does she not look "clean and fresh" though? Is there dirt caked on her face? Are there stains on her clothing, tangled or greasy hair? I don't think people who are calling her unhygienic even understand what the word means. Again, I perfectly understand the meaning of the word. I just don't think the majority of you realize that there is more to the definition than just being dirty or greasy, etc. Like ~~Only~One~U~~ said, the term "personal hygiene" also applies to one's overall image (which includes things like clothing and weight, two areas in which Kelly obviously has no sense of hygiene). There isn't more to hygiene than cleanliness, though. You can think her clothing choices are atrocious and that they aren't flattering, and that's fine. But the word hygiene, even "personal hygiene", refers to cleanliness and health...not whether her clothes fit correctly, or her hair is the wrong color, or whether her shirts "have too much stuff going on" as ~~Only~One~U~~ said. Either way, you're entitled to think however you please. I think her "personal hygiene" is perfectly fine.

hy·giene : conditions or practices of cleanliness conducive to health It is a statement such as the one that I quoted that remind me to check one's posting history to assess his/her terribly sad ignorance.... First of all, even though I clearly don't share your "Kelly is a beautiful, normal girl who can do no wrong!!11" attitude, there's no need to be a smart ass. The vocab lesson is unnecessary. Second, the fact that my feelings on Kelly don't fall in line with your skewed image of her doesn't make me ignorant. I'm more than entitled to my own opinion, and whether or not you agree with it isn't my problem. Third, the definition that you provided above actually supports my point: Kelly is overweight, which is a condition NOT conductive to her health (meaning, it is the total opposite of good hygiene). So, thanks for helping me out. You are welcome if you truly believe that I "helped you out". Sadly again, the vocab lesson was necessary because you did not read the definition properly as it states "conditions of cleanliness conducive to health", not "conditions conducive to health" as you wrote. Nice try though, not really..... I do not feel I have a "skewed view" of Kelly's personal hygiene (definition used properly here) as you state. I find no reason to question her cleanliness. Further, unlike some folks on this forum, I am personally not at all bothered by the fact that she has put on weight in the past years or that she has horrid taste in clothing, because those things have no role in my own view of Kelly as a vocally gifted, warm-hearted, down-to-earth, jovial young lady with an seemingly exceptional view on life. If you feel that statement of mine represents a skewed view of her, then we simply disagree. Finally, I do think that your equating bad fashion sense and/or gaining weight with uncleanliness does "make you ignorant" as you say for obvious reasons. Cheers.

Ha, the talk goes to looks to personal hygiene now? I can't even eye roll anymore....it is just laughable at this point.....isn't the poster's icon of Britney? Talk about hygiene issues in the past....now THAT would qualify.....going to public restrooms barefoot? Sorry nothing against Britney....just don't understand people at times. And again, some of the talk of Kelly's looks I can understand...but hygiene? Again laughable....

Personal hygiene is NOT about gaining a few pounds or wearing clothing that fits. Unless you stop showering when you do these things. Maybe you guys are trying to say personal appearance? Taking care of one's appearance? That would match your critique a lot more than hygiene.

'All I Ever Wanted' Has been slowly rising on the Australian charts for a second go at the top end of the chart. It's gone from its lowest position at 42 to 38, and now sits at 32. Personally, I'll be happy to see her get a top 10 hit from 'Already Gone' and possibly the fouth single, and the album going platinum, hopefully double. Right now I think a third top 10 from this album and platinum are in the bag. Accidentally posted this on the single's thread.

^ I think it's a big misconception that people who look like they don't brush their hair, dress terribly, and are overweight have poor personal hygiene. It's just the image that those three factors convey, although it's "technically" far from the truth. It's a terrible assumption that most people would make, and that's undeniable.
Having said that, I stopped caring months ago what Kelly looks like. If she now has red hair, what's the big deal? Her entire image this era has been a complete joke. Every performance we see, we cross our fingers hoping she's dressed just fine so that her wardrobe doesn't overshadow her vocal performance, as it's done plenty of times this era. Her voice and personality have been phenomenal this era, but the rest has lacked by pop superstar standards.

The vlogs are great, I have thought for a while she should do those instead of her blog, which is a mess and rarely updated. Kelly's a talker, not a writer.
The red hair is nice, but I preferred the blonde color she had before.
I think the hygiene thing may be people reacting to the fact that Kelly sweats a lot in concert, so pictures of her taken in the middle of a show make her look like a mess. That's never going to change as long as she's out there working hard in her shows. Also the fact that when she wears the hair extensions, they tend to get all tangly.
Reading what she told Self about that Crossfit routine, I like the fact that she's prioritizing a cardio-fitness regimen that helps her keep her energy up in her concerts. It's obvious that's more important to her than losing weight. She used to run 4-5 miles a day during the Breakaway era and that burned weight off but also left her exhausted and susceptible to repeated bouts of pneumonia. She's right, her shows this year have been very high-energy.

I just looked at the pictures posted here. I think I like her new haircut. It's not so much the color as the style. There's actually a shape do her cut rather than just limp, straight hair. Her clothes are another matter, though. You can be a "rocker" with a sense of style. Yeah, I get it. She doesn't care how she looks but I'm just saying that you actually can do both. Be a rocker and have a great sense of style without looking like you just rolled out of bed.

It's not as if Kelly was a fashion plate before 2009. She's never known how to dress herself, not when she won Idol, not during the Breakaway era, never. The only thing you could ever say for Kelly's style is that it's her own. She is what she is - sometimes for photoshoots, videos or award shows she wears nice clothes and looks glamorous, like in the AG video, but usually she's the same old Kelly. People know by now not to expect much from her in terms of fashion. If style is suddenly an issue, it's only because people are less forgiving of her just slapping on a t-shirt and tight jeans because she's not as thin as she was in the past.

Her voice and personality have been phenomenal this era, but the rest has lacked by pop superstar standards. What the heck are "pop superstar standards"? And if they are what I think they are, they are ridiculous and should be rejected. A bunch of faceless bloggers, self-appointed fashionistas, and Q scorers should not decide what looks good and what doesn't. Besides, time and again Kelly Clarkson has in effect told these people to go f*** themselves, and has refused to kowtow to these unoffical "pop superstar standards." The entertainment industry would be pretty boring if every "pop superstar" looked and dressed like Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Mariah Carey.

I always feel like comments like these should be the end of the discussion, but they never are. Time and time again, about two and a half pages are dedicated to the back and forth discusssion of Kelly Clarkson's worth/self-worth/celebrity/now hygiene (for real?). How about we just copy and paste this every time?

BTW, this is a totally random thought, but seeing Kelly on the golf course kinda reminds me of a pro golfer named Kelli Kuehne, who is just about the same height and build as Kelly, seems like a similar personality, and is even from Dallas:

How about we just copy and paste this every time? I agree with Houster that Kelly looks great doing her own thing regardless of the carping, and with dbhmr that this topic has been beaten to death here (and just about everywhere else). I think the topic keeps coming up so much because people latch onto it as the explanation for why this era hasn't been as uniformly successful as in the past. But then, Kelly has spent basically her whole career with people predicting that each success would be her last. The ironic thing is, the music business has been feeding us prepackaged 'rebels' who push against the same dead-horse taboos for decades now, to the point where their efforts to shock us are all just so many cliches. Like, OMG, it's a rock star who takes drugs! It's a risque pop video! It's a rapper who uses bad words! Stop the presses! It took someone like Kelly, who the industry had forced on it by the public, to illustrate what the real taboos are: making the music she wants and speaking her mind about it, wearing the clothes she wants, being comfortable with a body that doesn't fit the mold. She's a witch! Burn her! There is nothing more subversive than being a normal person.
