According to Billboard, the band has currently given the album the title of Dr Johnny Skinz's Disproportionately Rambunctious Polar Express Machinehead. I'd bet a day's salary they change that monstrous handle before it wraps.

^ That's only there because rockmaniac posted "Hero" went Gold.

I bet Billboard is wrong again. ^ That's cause "Hero" has just gone gold. New news.

It doesn't matter why, it's just funny how topics well over a year old are still being discussed. One for a song completely gone from radio, and one that hasn't aired yet. Just kinda funny. And not to walk on Halo19's math, but over 19 months for this one. Nearly 2 years on Hero. You made this frickin thing. What did you expect?

In all fairness, I said "over 15 months" because I guess I didn't fully navigate when looking into a topic of an unconfirmed song that's 3 pages long.
(I never looked into that Skillet topic.)
Who knows if we'll even have this in 2011.

As the new single approaches, I'm curious to what the posters on this board generally feel is their best release. With 30some Alternative hits, it was tough to narrow this down to 16. I took the simple route and went by peak positions on Modern / Alternative. Note the top 11 seeds were all #1 singles. Ties broken by weeks at peak, then weeks charted. Some classics like Aeroplane, Suck My Kiss, and Higher Ground didn't make the cut, but these 16 cover the entire history of the band.
Tournament 11 of 17 (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Round 1
1 Scar Tissue 16 Warped
8 My Friends 9 Can't Stop
4 Otherside 13 Under The Bridge
5 Snow ((Hey Oh)) 12 The Zephyr Song
2 By The Way 15 Around The World
7 Tell Me Baby 10 Give It Away
3 Dani California 14 Knock Me Down
6 Soul To Squeeze 11 Californication

Good suggestion on "Save The Population". Why they didn't release it as a follow-up single behind "Fortune Faded" always confused me. "Save The Population" could have been just as big as "Fortune Faded" I think. Off the top of my head I'm not coming up with any follow-up singles from greatest-hits albums (in any genre) that have done particularly well. Papa Roach - "Burn" sorta qualifies at this point, but you're right that I couldn't think of any precedent for it.

I was only noting the Hero topic was much older. Don't get on halo19 for that. "Don't blame Conan" - Jay Leno

^ This is the alternative/rock section. BTW, P!nk made it to #1 on pop with her follow-up single ("F**kin' Perfect") from her Greatest Hits album, so really you can't say it's struggling if it's gotten the highest it can get.

That was a consideration, but keep in mind the band has only 27 top 50 singles according to Nielsen. I didn't want to clog the bracket with songs from bands the members have played on such as Guns N' Roses, Pearl Jam, Jane's Addiction, Chickenfoot, etc. I tried to keep it simple and only the minor hits were excluded.

Isn't the bracket a bit out order technically? Though this should work out the same too.

Yeah it works out fine. But it's not the usual NCAA basketball order that you've used for every other bracket up until now. But you're right, the match-ups work out the same way.
