Phew! For a second I thought I'm gonna have to deal with two pages of arguments of who has a cooler head or what is dramatic and yada yada. Imagine, Pulse containing actual discussions in between mounds of "GO OBSESSED! STRAIGHT TO #1 ON ITUNES" comments. We really dodged a bullet there. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) *and now back to your regularly scheduled programming*

I think a lot of you misunderstood what they ment by digtial. If you listen to the both albums from the dreams they are very digtial sounding and it has nothing to do with autotunes. He has thing for producing music that has very 80's feel that is very computerized. OMG THANK YOU!!! extra ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) @ people assuming that digitalized = Autotune. Autotune is a specific computer program. Let's not jump the gun here.

Well hopefully these "live feeling" songs outnumber the "digital" songs. We haven't had a "live feeling" song since TEOM. E=MC2 was very "digital"

I love me some Mariah Carey but she can't belt properly live anymore. Her horrible performance of "It's Like That" at Star Academy is another proof.

You can use auto-tune for more than just adjusting the pitch of one certain note (see the effect in Cher's Believe or this example). This type of effect is what I believe people are referring to.

From MariahDaily (and was also posted here at some point) Standing O "Standing O" was more contemporary and involved the AUTO-TUNEagain.
I love that one of the reviewers said CANDY BLING is very Aaliyah! I loved her!

1. I think lots of people don't know what auto-tune is. They probably think layered vocals = auto-tune like at the beginning of the HATEU demo. 2. Donnie, we got 'I Wish You Well' last era, and that didn't have a beat or any other type of fancy production. That was indeed "live feeling".

Someone of MC's caliber should not have to use autotune so much. To THINK the woman who blessed me with "Can't Let Go", "The Wind", and even "My Saving Grace" has to use that shit. Owell, looks like I'll once again be skipping over tracks trying the find the real MC. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

Spine-tingling, heart-stirring, and just generally awesome are the best three adjectives to describe the six songs I heard from Mariah Carey’s next album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel - out 14 September. Putting all conflict with Eminem (the bitter, twisted loser) aside, Mariah showed that talent speaks for itself and she has that in sack-loads. Although I suspect in Mariah’s case it is Hermes Birkin-loads. Limited edition and expensive, dahlings. Here is what I heard: (1) Candy Bling - a very slow number that showcases Mariah’s unique vocal range. One to put on the iPod and play when someone is pissing you off on the tube / bus as it totally chills you out. (2) Obsessed - the first single and my favourite as it’s more of a dancey number. I am OBSESSED with this song and sing along when it’s on the radio (3) H.A.T.E U - another slow number - very e=mc2- but then if you have a winning formula, why change it. (4) Standing 0 - what a cool title for a song! By visualisng a standing ovation, Mariah is totally gonna get one. (5) Impossible - slow but SEXY in homage to Nick Cannon, I think. She sings ‘U did the impossible…’ and ‘I love you Like…’ (6) I want to Know What Love is - cover of The Foreigner’s classic. Mariah makes it sound so beauitful, it makes you dwell on the lyrics differently. And it shows she wants to properly entertain people - nobody would have expected her to do this. I actually cheered in congratulations when this song ended and I wasn’t the only one. www.zoegriffin.co.uk/blog/?p=2231

I felt pity for her. :(

I'm talking about track like My saving grace, Subtle Invitation, like on the Charmbracelet album. she worked with Big Jim on a lot of that album. And she actually recorded the song with a band in the background. Live feeling with actually instruments and not synths.

IWYW had live piano and didn't have any synths lol, but it was just very stripped down and it didn't have "epic" instrumentation so I get what you're saying. I thought the song was memorable, in that, besides the piano, everything else was her voice. It really showed how fantastic her instrument is. I would never want her to go back to a Charmbracelet sound.

now THIS is dramatic, LOL. People can use auto-tune for effect. We all know Beyonce can sing and hasn't lost any ability or Celine Dion, as another example. What if, for the hell of it, they just wanted to use Auto-Tune. I can see if her whole album was Auto-Tuned like Kanye's last or something like that but it won't be. People are acting like she is going to sing Vision of Love in AutoTune on her album.

LOL Right. I liked the new review, although it was vague. That sig is awesome. I'm also guessing Candy Bling is produced by Timbaland since people are saying it's "very Aaliyah".

Oh hell, plz don't compare Beyonce to Mariah. Mariah does NOT NEED ANY effect on her vocals period. Beyonce on the other hands yoddles so damn much autotune would complement her voice. There's nothing WRONG with a little autotune here or there, but for an artist such as "MARIAH CAREY: RETURN OF THE VOICE" seems awfully decieving cosidering she used that as a compaign during the TEOM era. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

I wouldn't mind if Mariah used Auto-Tune on a few songs. It works to really good effect on "Obsessed."
I'm glad we finally have reviews of some of the songs off the album. However, they're not making me really excited about it. It looks like most of the songs played were slow jams, and I was far more curious about the Timbaland songs.
I still think this album will be good- "Obsessed" is one of Mariah's best singles of the decade behind "We Belong Together"- but I guess I was used to all the hype surrounding E=MC2.

Some artists need to do like Beyonce and stay in their lanes. Autotune is NOT for everybody.

Personally, I don't think the use of auto-tune for a specific effect is any indication on Mariah's current vocal capabilities. Mariah, as a poster previously pointed out, just might have liked the effect when used in other songs and decided she wanted to use it on a few with this album; it seems to be extremely trendy these days. Whether or not you actually like the fact it's being used at all (regardless of reason) is a completely different story.

It's a little premature to even be fretting over the possibility of auto-tune being (overly) present on the album. I somehow doubt she'll be channeling her inner T-Pain throughout the majority of the album. Auto-tune is 'in' right now and if used wisely and sparingly (as in "Obsessed"), it works fine. Let's wait and hear the songs and judge for ourselves before we go on for pages and pages discussing something we have very little information on.
