I really, really like this. I can see it being a sleeper hit in November/December, making the top 15 or so (which would make it his second biggest pop hit I think). The only single of his I like better than this right now is "Waiting On The World To Change".

D. J. said this sounds kinda like James Taylor (pretty much agree) - can't imagine James Taylor (or this) doin much on pop, could do some damage on HAC though

Daughters was his best so far. I fell asleep on that song so many times, but every time I woke up, it was still on... dragging along. Definitely my least favorite Mayer single, and I was disappointed he won a Grammy for it when he's had much better. This is okay. I wish he'd go back to the days of "My Stupid Mouth" and "Neon." Songs with that extra umph in them; head-nodders, even. I could listen to "Room For Squares" in its entirety on repeat.

I like the song. Very easy to sing along to (it's not very complex so duh). I knew the lyrics by the second listen.

That was the last song before this he actually released. Like 2 years ago? That was really the only song you liked by him? That's like his worst song. It's so repetitive. Oh, I didn't realize that hearing a song I liked and then listening to previous songs from the artist's catalog was breaking the rules. Whoops. Don't get defensive. I was just saying that I couldn't believe you hadn't heard of him before that song.

I like this too.
Lyrically it reminds me of something Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows would write, who is known for describing his travels in his songs (both New York and Baton Rouge have come up in his songs) and actually would have fit right into the "Sunday Mornings" half of their most recent CD had Duritz written this.
Sincerely, Lisping Hibiscus

The first song this reminded me of was "I'm Yours". I could see "Who Says" matching the peak of that song's success, if not its longevity (then again, arguably no song can beat the longevity of "I'm Yours").

Could this be his first top ten on billboard? Crazy to think that he hasn't gotten one yet. He's definitely a massive star if his single can go to #2 on iTunes on his name alone. I love this, it's a great follow up to Continuum. I'd be careful with the comparisons to I'm Yours' chart run however, that was the biggest song of the decade.

I already said this wouldn't match the longevity of "I'm Yours". How much clearer can I be? "I'm Yours" hit #6 on the Hot 100 and #1 on CHR/Pop; reverse those, and I think "Who Says" has the potential to approach or match those peaks.

But it still seems kind of funny to bring up I'm Yours if all you mean is topping the pop chart and reaching top 10 on billboard, that's all.

I get a similar vibe musically as well (I like it a little more than "I'm Yours", but then again I think that song is highly overrated); that was the original basis for my comparison, but in my post I focused on its chart potential. My apologies for the lack of clarity.

Yeah, I see this probably outpeaking Mraz on the Hot 100, but def not on CHR. I agree though, I think it's a better track in general. I'm actually surprised that this is selling so well this early.

I hate to admit this, but when I hear this song more often now, I'm reminded of Bon Jovi's "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and I feel compelled to parody that song in the form of "Who Says I Can't Get Stoned?" Sincerely, Lisping Hibiscus
