I saw this on a recent Mainstream Radio Promo cd for November 2009, and the track is already starting to get play on CHR (up to 104 spins this week) so I thought it would be ok to start a thread.
Love their newest album, and I've always thought this song could do something if released to pop. I'm not holding my breath, but if KOL can hit it big I don't see why Phoenix can't at least get some minor success.

This song is pretty good. I'm not sure of it's CHR chances though.

20 on 20 is whoring this like it's already in the top 10! Too bad they're no longer on the panel.

Eh, I think they're more likely to have success with "Lisztomania" on more Hot AC-leaning CHR channels.

I've been hearing this here in Canada for awhile now. Hopefully this can take off in the US.

:o Seriously, even a top 50 placing would be a great accomplishment for them! And I also notice the digital sales have been pretty consistent for the last couple of weeks. Such a SMASH!

Chances of this deserving song actually crossing over into the CHR/Pop Top 60. Less than the chances of George W. Bush admitting Iraq was a mistake........or less than the chances of Glenn Beck becoming a prime time MSNBC analyst? You decide.

Good luck! I genuinely wish this song success in this format.

November 10 is the adds date. I think it can enter the Top 40, but as much as I'd love for it to go higher, it won't.

Eh, I think they're more likely to have success with "Lisztomania" on more Hot AC-leaning CHR channels. I think "Lisztomania" would have been a stronger single choice too, but "1901" has more momentum right now. There's always the chance that this one does well enough that they're willing to give "Lisztomania" a try as a follow-up, I suppose.

I wiiiiish (or do I?). "Use Somebody" is a different beast--a by the numbers, derivative beast. "1901" doesn't resemble retro stadium rock that pulls fists into the air & tops right off girls. This will have quite an uphill struggle.

I didn't think "Lisztomania" was all that great on first listen - at least not as pop-friendly as "1901".

Hate this song, just like I hate Use Somebody. Continues to be a mystery why people like this sub-genre of noise.

Hate this song, just like I hate Use Somebody. Continues to be a mystery why people like this sub-genre of noise. Cause of the same reason why some people will never tolerate/understand the music (whatever it may be) you're listenin to...

This song is considered 'noise' now? This is bouncy-pop/rock if I ever hear one, but that's just me, I guess.
Work that promo! Anyway, does anyone know how popular they are in their home region? Or is it just the same 'ol on-the-brink-of-a-breakthrough like in the other parts of the world?

I gave this a listen and thought it was pleasant. :) It'll probably take another couple of listens to get me into it though.

He hates two of the best alternative crossovers/attempts of the year, while finding a way to pimp Sean Kingston, Ke$ha, The Fray, and OneRepublic in his display name. He's also the person who called "Don't Trust Me" "epic".
