1. LUKE'S RAIN: Luke Bryan has the #1 hit in America for the second week with Rain Is A Good Thing. 2. KENNY'S HIGH: Even though Kenny Chesney is lying low this year as far as touring is concerned, that has not stopped him from making a lot of noise on the charts. His newest hit, The Boys Of Fall debuts at #17, making it his second highest debuting song. Don't Blink from 2007 started at #16. His last hit, Ain't Back Yet debuted at #23 and peaked at #3. 3. REBA'S RADIO: Reba McEntire's Turn On The Radio takes a 14 notch jump to #41. It is the fastest rising song of the week. 4. BOSS AND HIS EMPLOYEE: Brad Paisley has a financial intesrest in the Sea Gayle/Arista label. His Water is at #4 while Lover, Lover by Jerrod Niemann is at #3. 5. THE #1S ON THE ZEROS: These were the #1 hits in 2000, 1990, 1980, 1970, 1960, and 1950: 2000: I Hope You Dance-Lee Ann Womack-MCA 1990: The Dance-Garth Brooks-Capitol 1980: Bar Room Buddies-Merle Haggard and Clint Eastwood-Elektra 1970: Wonder Could I Live There Anymore-Charley Pride-RCA 1960: Please Help Me, I'm Falling-Hank Locklin-RCA 1950: I'll Sail My Ship Alone-Moon Mullican-King 6. THEIR TEN BIGGEST: We lost Charlie Rich 15 years ago this week. These are his ten biggest hits. The first number is weeks at #1 and the second number is weeks in the top 40. 1. The Most Beautiful Girl-1973-3-14 2. A Very Special Love Song-1974-3-11 3. Behind Closed Doors-1973-2-16 4. There Won't Be Anymore-1974-2-14 5. Rollin' With The Flow-1977-2-13 6. Every Time You Touch Me I Get High-1975-#3 7. THE YEAR'S BIGGEST: These are the ten biggest hits of 1990 according to the American Country Countdown: 1. Nobody's Home-Clint Black-RCA 2. Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart-Randy Travis-Warner Bros. 3. On Second Thought-Eddie Rabbitt-Capitol 4. Love Without End, Amen-George Strait-MCA 5. Walkin' Away-Clint Black-RCA 6. Here In The Real World-Alan Jackson-Arista 8. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: The last time a foreigner was at #1 on the country singles chart was in 1986 when Anne Murray collected her tenth and final #1 with Now And Forever You And Me. The charts remained quite American for nine years until another Canadian, Shania Twain landed her first #1 fifteen years ago this week with Any Man Of Mine. Twain signed to Mercury Records in 1992 and her self-titled debut CD was released in 1993. It had very limited success (the CD went gold after her next release went platinum). It was the same year she met Robert John 'Mutt' Lange and married him. They decided to write and produce CD #2-The Woman In Me. Her breakthrough hit came in Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under in 1995 (#11). Any Man Of Mine was next, becoming the first of seven chart topping hits. A very sexy video of the song was made propelling Twain to the top of the country music world. The Woman In Me was #1 on the country albums chart for 29 weeks. It went on to sell over 12 million copies. Four more major hits followed: 1. The Woman In Me Need The Man In You-1995-#14 2. If You're Not In It For Love I'm Outta Here-1996-#1 3. You Win My Love-1996-#1 4. No One Needs To Know-1996-#1 Twain released three more CDs which yielded the following major hits: 1. Come On Over-#1 for 50 weeks-over 23 million sold a. Love Gets Me Every Time-1997-#1-chart wise, her biggest hit b. Don't Be Stupid You Know I Love You-1998-#6 c. You're Still The One-1998-#1 d. From This Moment On-with Bryan White-1998-#6 e. Honey, I'm Home-1998-#1 f. That Don't Impress Me Much-1999-#8 g. Man! I Feel Like A Woman!-1999-#4 h. You've Got A Way-1999-#13 i. Come On Over-1999-#6 j. I'm Holding On To Love To Save My Life-2000-#17 While the Come On Over CD was winding down, Twain won the 1999 C.M.A. and 2000 A.C.M. Entertainer of the Year Awards. 2. Up!-#1 for 6 weeks-over 11 million sold a. I'm Gonna Getcha Good!-2002-#7 b. Up!-2003-#12 c. Forever And For Always-2003-#4 d. She's Not Just A Pretty Face-2004-#9 e. It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing-2004-#18 3. Greatest Hits-#1 for 11 weeks-over 4 million sold a. Party For Two-with Billy Currington-2004-#7 Twain gave birth to a son, Eja in 2001. However, her marriage to 'Mutt' ended this year. There is great speculation that her next CD will be released during the last quarter of this year or the first quarter of next year to coincide with a TV show she will be doing on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN for short). Twain was recently ranked #14 in the top 25 artists over the past 25 years. Since Twain, two Canadian acts have topped the charts-Terri Clark and Emerson Drive. Two Australian artists have done the same-Jamie O'Neal and Keith Urban. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING JULY 22, 1995: 1. ANY MAN OF MINE-SHANIA TWAIN-MERCURY 2. Sold The Grundy County Auction Incident-John Michael Montgomery-Atlantic 3. You Better Think Twice-Vince Gill-MCA 4. Darned If I Don't Danged If I Do-Shenandoah-Liberty 5. And Still-Reba McEntire-MCA 6. I Don't Even Know Your Name-Alan Jackson-Arista 7. They're Playing Our Song-Neal McCoy-Atlantic 8. Party Crowd-David Lee Murphy-MCA 9. That's Just About Right-Blackhawk-Arista 10. I Didn't Know My Own Strength-Lorrie Morgan-BNA

We have a new #1 CD on the country album charts. It is Jerrod Niemann's Judge Niemann And The Hung Jury. 34,000 copies were sold in its first week!
P.S.: I did make the correction!

countryhistorian, that should be Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury, not Jerrod Niemann & The Hung Jury.

Well my suspicion was right. I think Jerrod has an interesting enough single out now, and Lady A has been "only" selling about 30,000 per week after almost 30 weeks...couple all that with good reviews for Niemann's album, and the strong Arista label backing him, and it makes sense that Jerrod could edge past Lady A, at least for this one week. I'm sure Jerrod will drop below the trio for next week, and unless I'm mistaken there aren't any big albums expected to outsell Lady A for next week...probably none until Blake's SixPak.

I'm happy for Jerrod, as I went out and bought the CD, it is actually very very good, some really good songs/skits on there, but unfortunately, as said in concerts, my least favorite on the album 'What Do You Want' will probably be the followup single. Oh, and congrats jhomes87 on going platinum.

Oh, and congrats jhomes87 on going platinum. The only other full songs I've heard from the album (other than "Lover, Lover") are "One More Drinking Song" (which was released as a single, but I believe it was prior to Jerrod being backed by Arista) and "Forever Clear". I didn't like those songs a whole lot, but I have heard some snippets of other songs that sounded pretty good, and again, the critics seem to enjoy Jerrod's album quite a bit. He could be sticking around for a while if the right follow-up singles come out. And hey, thanks Phil!

I'm surprised to see Sugarland at #44. That means their Mediabase to Billboard ratio was down around 0.5 or 0.6. Based on other recent releases, I was expecting that ratio to be around 0.9.

I thought they definitely get in the 30's above Reba even since they got so high increases in audience from day to day. Since they had low ratio does this mean most of the songs in the 30's and 40's will have low ratios and not chart as high as your predictions are on your post. I can't believe Sugarland didn't break even Top 40.

I'm sure he did a great job again, and the ratios are probably fairly normal for those songs in the 30's and 40's. What probably happened is just rare--maybe some of the BB stations haven't jumped on Sugarland's new song yet. They could've had a bit slower Sunday too. And keep in mind that, although they're at #44, the audience totals could be very close, and they may have just missed the top 40. I'm sure they'll explode on the next chart (8/14), and they're all but guaranteed to be the greatest gainer. Maybe rowdawg will comment more...I will say I was a bit surprised at the lower-than-expected debut, but I don't think it means anything. I think there are definitely explanations for it, and I gave my guesses, but perhaps someone else knows more. But again, Sugarland should have no problem flying up the charts next week...

Wow... this is not looking good for Julianne Hough if she still hasn't debuted on the Billboard charts yet

^Agreed. I don't know that she will now. She missed by only a few thousand audience impressions (AI's) last week after gaining over 100k for that week, so I thought for sure, with the bottom end struggling, that she'd get in. Train, Bomshel, Jewel, and LeAnn Rimes appear bound for nowhere, and its likely that not even half of those 4 remained on the charts this week with Joe Nichols and Thompson Square debuting...it's possible that Stealing Angels could've re-entered (prediction based on them doing decent on today's MB update).
Julianne was losing audience on today's MB update, so it's possible that she'll have to regroup and come back with a different single from her upcoming album and maybe release "Is That So Wrong" later...I'm surprised tho, that it didn't at least manage to get onto the bottom end of the chart...I still think that the track has potential...

from Billboard Country Update Issue 7-26-10
In other news during the chart cycle, Carrie Underwood logs her 10th No. 1 on Hot Country Songs with “Undo It” (19/Arista Nashville). Underwood is now tied with Reba for the most leaders (#1's) by solo females in the Nielsen BDS era (since January 1990). With nine No. 1 songs during that time frame, Faith Hill remains in second place among women.

Yes, you're correct. The ratios for all the other songs have nothing to do with Sugarland's song. Sugarland ended up with a ratio of .459 (1.724 on Billboard, 3.757 on Mediabase). I'm guessing this unusually low ratio was due to the song doing well on Mediabase-only stations and not so well on Billboard-only stations. Whatever the reason, you can expect Sugarland's ratio to increase a lot next week (probably over 0.8).

I'm shocked no one's brought up the fact that Sugarland's song was just available starting on Friday. It only got....what?....3 full days of airplay? Not to mention the countdown shows on Saturday and Sunday.
Isn't a #44 debut pretty good? We all know it'll have a massive leap on the next chart. Maybe top 20?

LeAnn Rimes, Train and Jewel all fell out of the Billboard charts this week. Stealing Angels did indeed re-enter at #54 as did Zac Brown Band's "A Different Kind Of Fine" at #60.
I don't know if LeAnn could come back with "Swingin'" or is it generally done as a single?

1. JUST UNDO IT: Carrie Underwood (or is it Carrie Fisher?) collects her tenth #1 in Undo It. In the meantime, she sets several achievements: a. For the third time, she collects at least three chart toppers from each of her CDs: Some Hearts-Jesus, Take The Wheel-2006, Before He Cheats-2006, and Wasted-2007 Carnival Ride-So Small-2007, All-American Girl-2008, Last Name-2008, and Just A Dream-2008 Play On-Cowboy Casanova-2009, Temporary Home-2010, and Undo It-2010 b. She becomes the 55th artist in history with at least ten chart toppers. c. She becomes the tenth female artist with at least ten chart topping hits: Dolly Parton-25-1971-2006 Reba McEntire-24-1983-2010 Tammy Wynette-20-1967-1977 Crystal Gayle-18-1976-1987 Loretta Lynn-16-1967-1978 Rosanne Cash-11-1981-1989 Anne Murray-10-1974-1986 Janie Frickie-10-1978-1986 Tanya Tucker-10-1973-1988 Carrie Underwood-10-2006-2010 d. She becomes the fourth Arista artist with ten #1s: Alan Jackson-Gone Country-1995 Brooks & Dunn-My Maria-1996 Brad Paisley-Letter To Me-2008 Carrie Underwood-Undo It-2010 e. She is second to Tammy Wynette in collecting ten #1s (as far as how fast they reached ten): Wynette-My Elusive Dreams-with David Houston-#1 in September, 1967 to Good Lovin' Makes It Right-#1 in August, 1971-3 years, 11 months Underwood-Jesus, Take The Wheel-#1 in January, 2006 to Undo It-#1 in August, 2010-4 years, 7 months 2. REBA IS #9: Reba McEntire lands the 85th top 40 hit of her career with Turn On The Radio (#32 this week). It is the fastest rising song of the week for the second week in a row (up 9). It now places her ninth on the all time list of artists with the most top 40s. George Jones-145-1955-2005 Eddy Arnold-128-1945-1982 Johnny Cash-105-1955-1990 George Strait-93-1981-2010 Waylon Jennings-92-1965-1991 Merle Haggard-92-1964-2006 Dolly Parton-90-1967-2006 Conway Twitty-88-1966-1991 Reba McEntire-85-1978-2010 Webb Pierce-84-1952-1971 3. SUGARLAND'S BACK: Sugarland ends an almost year long draught on the charts as Stuck Like Glue debuts at #44. Their last hit, Joey peaked at #17 in September, 2009. They have something in common with Taylor Swift's lucky number-Glue is the 13th single release of their career. 4. A NEW #1: CD that is. After 24 weeks, Lady Antebellum's Need You Now dips to #2. Jerrod Niemann's Judge Jerrod And The Hung Jury is #1 after selling 34,000 copies. After 24 weeks at #1, Lady A is second to Garth Brooks. His Ropin' The Wind CD was #1 for 29 consecutive weeks between 1991-1992. 5. A 40S LOOK: These were the #1 hits during the last week of July during the 1940s: 1944: Is You Is Or Is You Ain't Ma' Baby-Louis Jordan-Decca 1945: Oklahoma Hills-Jack Guthrie-Capitol 1946: New Spanish Two Step-Bob Wills-Columbia 1947: Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette-Tex Williams-Capitol 1948: Bouquet Of Roses-Eddy Arnold-RCA 1949: I'm Throwing Rice At The Girl That I Love-Eddy Arnold-RCA 6. THEIR TEN BIGGEST: We lost Jim Reeves 46 years ago this week. These are his ten biggest hits. The first number is weeks at #1 and the second number is weeks in the top 40. 1. He'll Have To Go-1960-14-34 2. Mexican Joe-1953-9-26 3. Four Walls-1957-8-26 4. I Guess I'm Crazy-1964-7-24 5. Billy Bayou-1959-5-25 6. Distant Drums-1966-4-19 7. This Is It-1965-3-22 8. Bimbo-1954-3-21 9. Is It Really Over-1965-3-19 10. Blue Side Of Lonesome-1966-1-19 7. THE YEAR'S BIGGEST: These are the ten biggest hits of 1991 according to the American Country Countdown: 1. Don't Rock The Jukebox-Alan Jackson-Arista 2. I've Come To Expect It From You-George Strait-MCA 3. Forever's As Far As I'll Go-Alabama-RCA 4. The Thunder Rolls-Garth Brooks-Capitol 5. In A Different Light-Doug Stone-Epic 6. Brother Jukebox-Mark Chesnutt-MCA 7. You Know Me Better Than That-George Strait-MCA 8. Down Home-Alabama-RCA 9. Unanswered Prayers-Garth Brooks-Capitol 10. If I Know Me-George Strait-MCA 8. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: It was the summer of 1984 and RCA Records threw a party for one of its artists. Why? The artist in question was Earl Thomas Conley and he (and RCA) were celebrating the fourth #1 hit from the Don't Make It Easy For Me CD (our chart topping hit from 26 years ago this week). The song was Angel In Disguise and it set a new chart achievement at the time as NO artist had ever pulled four #1s from an album. Instead of giving you a long story and dance about the feat, I will give you the complete list of those country CDs that have yielded four chart topping hits (minus greatest hits CDs). Ready? 1. Don't Make It Easy For Me-Earl Thomas Conley-RCA You're Love's On The Line-1983 Holding Her And Loving You-1983 Don't Make It Easy For Me-1984 Angel In Disguise-1984 2. Thanks for mentioning Jim Reeves. You might enjoy taking a look at the number of hits, many of them big hits, Jim had after his plane went down. Jim and Patsy Cline both managed to chart regularly and didn't let little things like a fiery plane crashes prevent the hits from arriving on schedule. Especially Jim.
By the way, your list of albums with 4 #1's was interesting, but I would subtract the albums that included previously-recorded #1 hits. Seems a little fake to me, getting 4 #1's by including earlier songs that reached the top from previous albums. Still interesting, though.

That would have been an easy guess. Jerrod probably plummeted close to 50% or so

1. HIS #1 LOVER: Jerrod Niemann collects his first #1 hit in Lover, Lover. It was a chart topping hit for Sonia Dada in Australia in 1992 as You Don't Treat Me No Good. It is the first #1 for Sea Gayle/Arista Records. Niemann is the first new artist this year to score a #1 hit and CD (Judge Niemann And The Hung Jury). 2. NOT STUCK: Sugarland has the fastest climbing song of the week as Stuck Like Glue vaults 22 spots to #22. It is the second fastest rising single this year. Keith Urban's I'm In climbed 23 notches earlier this year (#52 to #29). 3. WAIT NO MORE: Just last week it was announced that Rascal Flatts signed to the Big Machine label (after being at Lyric Street for the past eleven years). This week they make their label debut with Why Wait at #34. 4. A LITTLE BIT OF NASHVILLE IN BUFFALO: It was announced in my local paper last week that Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan will be inducted to the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame this October. They scored three major hits on the charts. They were: 1. Tennessee Bird Walk-1970-#1 2. Humphrey The Camel-1970-#5 3. Somewhere In Virginia In The Rain-1972-#15 What I find amazing is both were born in Buffalo in the 1940s but did not meet each other until the 1960s in Florida. If you are not doing anything October 7, shuffle off to Buffalo and see a national chart topping act inducted to their hometown hall of fame. 5. THE TOP SELLERS: These were the top selling CDs in 2005, 2000, 1995, 1990, and 1985: 2005: Honkytonk University-Toby Keith-Dreamworks 2000: Fly-the Dixie Chicks-Monument 1995: The Woman In Me-Shania Twain-Mercury 1990: Killin' Time-Clint Black-RCA 1985: 40 Hour Week-Alabama-RCA 6. THEIR ELEVEN BIGGEST-COUPLES EDITION: Keith Whitley and Lorrie Morgan were married between 1986-1989. Whitley had his first #1 in August, 1988 while Morgan had her last #1 in August, 1995. These are their biggest hits. First number-weeks at #1 or #2, second number-weeks in the top 40. K.W.: 1. I'm No Stranger To The Rain-1989-2-14 2. When You Say Nothing At All-1988-2-14 3. It Ain't Nothin'-1990-1-17 4. Don't Close Your Eyes-1988-1-16 5. I Wonder Do You Think Of Me-1989-1-14 6. Brotherly Love-with Earl Thomas Conley-1991-1-18 (#2) L.M.: 1. What Part Of No-1993-3-18 2. Five Minutes-1990-1-20 3. I Didn't Know My Own Strength-1995-1-16 4. Out Of Your Shoes-1989-3-22 (#2) 5. Watch Me-1992-2-18 (#2) 7. THE YEAR'S BIGGEST: These are the ten biggest hits of 1992 according to the American Country Countdown: 1. I Saw The Light-Wynonna Judd-MCA 2. Achy Breaky Heart-Billy Ray Cyrus-Mercury 3. Is There Life Out There-Reba McEntire-MCA 4. What She's Doing Now-Garth Brooks-Capitol 5. We Tell Ourselves-Clint Black-RCA 6. Dallas-Alan Jackson-Arista 7. Boot Scootin' Boogie-Brooks & Dunn-Arista 8. I Still Believe In You-Vince Gill-MCA 9. Neon Moon-Brooks & Dunn-Arista 10. Some Girls Do-Sawyer Brown-Capitol 8. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: I had saluted Jimmy Dean in November, 2009 during the 48th anniversary of Big Bad John becoming the first triple #1 (on country, pop, and A.C. charts). He would have major hits on the country chart during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. He would go on to future fame and fortune by running meat and restaurant businesses. This year he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame, but did not live long enough for the formal ceremonies. He had his second and final chart topping hit 45 years ago this week with The First Thing Ev'ry Morning And The Last Thing Ev'ry Night. We miss you, Jimmy! This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 7, 1965: 1. THE FIRST THING EV'RY MORNING AND THE LAST THING EV'RY NIGHT-JIMMY DEAN-COLUMBIA 2. The Bridge Washed Out-Warner Mack-Decca 3. Lady Antebellum is spending their 26th week at #1 on the albums chart with Need You Now. That had me thinking, what are the top 25 country albums with the most time at #1? Here is the list. This is NOT according to sales, but the #1 title IS the #1 selling country CD of all time. Ready?
1. Come On Over-Shania Twain-Mercury-1997-50 2. Always & Forever-Randy Travis-Warner Bros.-1987-43 3. No Fences-Garth Brooks-Capitol-1990-41 4. Fly-the Dixie Chicks-Monument-1999-36 5. O Brother, Where Art Thou-Soundtrack-Mercury-2000-35 6. Some Gave All-Billy Ray Cyrus-Mercury-1992-34 7. Ropin' The Wind-Garth Brooks-Capitol-1991-33 8. Killin' Time-Clint Black-RCA-1989-31 9. Not A Moment Too Soon-Tim McGraw-Curb-1994-29 10. The Woman In Me-Shania Twain-Mercury-1995-29 11. Need You Now-Lady Antebellum-Capitol-2010-29 12. Feels So Right-Alabama-RCA-1981-28 13. Country Songs *** No. 1 *** "Free" Zac Brown Band Greatest Gainer/Hot Shot Debut No. 26 "Mine" Taylor Swift Debut No. 41 "My Kinda Party" Jason Aldean Debut No. 42 "Anything Like Me" Brad Paisley Debut No. 60 "Where Do I Go From You" Clay Walker
NOTE: With Taylor at #26, I think Luke Bryan's "Rain is a Good Thing" probably did go recurrent, perhaps based on spins? I guess I'm not sure, but the reason I think this is because Brad and Jason were each a spot higher too, but that leaves me with 59 songs however, unless the ZBB album cut snuck back in...I guess we'll see later with the BCU!
