Jeff_gluck (NASCAR reporter): Little Big Town to perform Bud Shootout concerts and anthem next weekend. I will gladly put Little Big Town's and Ricochet's acapella versions of the National Anthem up against ANYBODY. Hands down, there is simply no one better.

Loved the Sons of the Desert. Their lead singer Drew Womack just came out with an EP on ITunes a few weeks ago, which he stated was a precursor to a full length album to be released this year.

Well, if there's one thing I can say about Obama, it's that he has great taste, haha.

Interesting. I'm not familiar with the band, so I had no idea what the lead singer's name was, but I find it fascinating that his surname is Womack when they're most known for collaborating w/ Lee Ann Womack on her signature hit.

It was definitely ironic that Lee Ann teamed up with the Sons (who also consisted of Drew's brother Tim) on the iconic song. Since you brought it up, Drew actually has his own take on "I Hope You Dance" on the EP and although not as good as the original in my opinion, he does a great job on it.

Pam posted on twitter last year she was working on a new album, but thats the last I've heard. I'd love more Patty too! I miss the days when both these women were radio regulars during the 90s female surge. Pam Tillis Takes a 'Nice Little Detour' Into R&B Territory by Chuck Dauphin, Nashville She has released some of Music City's top singles of the past two decades such as "Deep Down" and "Maybe It Was Memphis," but Pam Tillis's latest musical adventure has everyone talking - in and out of Nashville! "I'm too close to it to be objective," the singer of her collaboration with up-and-coming R&B singer Kris Thomas, titled "Two Kings." The 1994 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year told Billboard "I have to have people tell me if it's any good or not." The song is a powerful piece of music that blends the legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Elvis Presley, as well as the social and cultural impacts the two men made. Tillis, who wrote the song with Brenda O'Brien, says that she's a little amazed at how much press the song has gotten so far given the humble beginnings of the composition. "I think it started out more or less as a songwriting exercise," she says. "I met Brenda at a songwriting camp. She showed me a lyric. It was totally rough, but there was a great and unique idea in there. So, I made a few little suggestions. I said I could really hear a choir on there. I told her that she had an anthem or at least the beginnings of an anthem. So, she went and stewed on that, and the more she thought about it, the more fired up she became. She started working on it, and she called me and said 'We need to do this." Though the singer's schedule was packed tight, there was something about the song that kept her coming back to it. "Anybody who knows Brenda knows she can be more than a little persuasive," she admits. "So, I told her, 'Let me see what I can do about it.' So, I rewrote it, and finally we made a demo of it. I wasn't even going to sing it. I was going to get someone else to do it. I was just trying to help her finish her song, but it just kind of took a life of its' own. I ended up singing it because I could hear it in my head and how I wanted it to sound." That's when the musical experimentation began. "The demo sounded pretty country, but I thought 'Let's add a loop to it, and then it started not to really fit any one musical category - a little country, a little R&B, and a little Gospel. We just didn't want to pigeon-hole it. We made a video out of it, and we made a master. At that point in time, we found Kris and put his voice on it." The performance and video - shot in Memphis - have caused quite a stir, particularly on YouTube. Her bluesy tones make for one of her most entertaining recordings to date. Could this be a new direction for the singer? She admits it's hard to say. "I wouldn't really say that, but then again, I didn't really write it for myself. Sometimes it's good not to worry about those kinds of things. But, I've always sang some R&B, so it wasn't really that out of character. But, the music that I've sang lately is a lot more country. It's a nice little detour." Tillis says what makes this song so exciting was that there wasn't any major plan. It happened because of the power of the song. "We just put it out there, and didn't really have an agenda. We just said 'This song deserves to have life, so let's just let the chips fall where they fall. We've just been going through the comments and thoughts from people. I hope this is a good way to get Kris's voice exposed to people around the world. He's such a great singer." When asked about her plans for 2012, Tillis said she was going to be on the road a lot. She has her regular concert dates scheduled, then will be performing as part of a all female trio with Megan Lynch and Mary Sue England. She's also got several dates planned with Lorrie Morgan, who she hopes to collaborate with in the studio. Another project she's excited about is an album full of re-recordings of her hits for Arista. She hopes fans will like her newer versions of the songs that added many to her fan base."There are a lot of sloppy re-recordings albums out there, so we wanted to take our time. She also has some new songs that she says she can't wait to record for a new country release. So, in the singer's words, "The Pam Tillis juggernaut hasn't even begun," she says with a smile. www.billboard.com/column/the-615/pam-tillis-takes-a-nice-little-detour-into-1005942752.story#/column/the-615/pam-tillis-takes-a-nice-little-detour-into-1005942752.story

Great video, probably my favorite Sons of the Desert song (although Whatever Comes First is great too). Too bad all that ugliness happened with their label and they never really had a chance.

glad to hear Pam Tillis is still working on music, look forward to hearing new stuff from her. Interested to hear Two Kings
I liked Sons of The Desert, thought they were good as well, wish we could hear their version of Goodbye Earl, though I doubt that'll ever happen

I am a huge SOD fan. I "found" a lot of the songs off of their unreleased album between "Whatever Comes First" and "Change". "Goodbye Earl" was one of those songs and while it's good, it doesn't match the Chicks. I have run into Scott Saunders who played keyboard. I have seen him with Phil Vassar and the guy that did "I'll Walk" (mind went blank) and met him at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. We had a lengthy discussion about the Sons and single choices. The two released albums are in my top 10 all-time favorites. It seems that the Change album got pushed a good bit even with underperforming singles. I have read where Drew Womack would like to get everyone back together but he hasn't been able to.
If you don't have Drew's solo album, it's a must have. I listen to it at least once a week and I will be getting the EP.

Yankee Grey......another great band. Loved that album but felt that "I Should've Listened To Me" would have been a smash if released. I remember them asking for demos when the lead singer had to leave the band and I actually sent one in. I wonder what happen to him? I know it had something to do with his throat but never heard anything after he left.

"All Things Considered" is an AMAZING song. I listen to it almost every day, actually (check out my last.fm, lol). I could see a band like The Dirt Drifters or the Zac Brown Band doing a great version of that song.

YOUNGEST SOLO ARTIST GRAMMY® NOMINEE BILLY GILMAN TO PARTNER WITH SHOE CHARITY SOLES4SOULS® ON PROJECT THIS SPRING10 Feb, 2012 00:00 CET Gilman sets audacious goal of sponsoring 500,000 pairs of shoes Nashville, TN – February 9, 2012– International Shoe charity Soles4Souls has announced a partnership with multi-platinum selling GRAMMY® nominee Billy Gilman, with the goal of sponsoring 500,000 shoes for children and adults in need worldwide. Gilman, who has sold more than 6 million albums worldwide and garnered awards and nods from the ACMs, CMAs, Billboard, and AMAs, has spent the past couple of years writing material for a new CD, working with some of Nashville's top songwriters. He is currently in the studio recording, with anticipated new music from the artist expected in 2012.Gilman has always been a voice for those less fortunate than himself. After seeing a video clip of Soles4Souls’ Founder Wayne Elsey talking about the organization, Gilman was “really blown away at what they do for so many” and decided that he wanted to join Soles4Souls in their mission to help kids around the world in need of shoes. “I am proud to be partnering with Soles4Souls and am excited about what’s to come in the very near future with our partnership,” added Gilman. Formed as a relief effort following the 2004 Southeast Asian tsunami, Soles4Souls has donated more than 16 million pairs of shoes across 129 countries. The charity’s mission includes distributing shoes to the children and adults around the world who live in adverse poverty and have no access to appropriate footwear. A pair of shoes can protect a child in developing nations from soil-based diseases like hookworm and keeps them in compliance with the uniform code at school. “Billy is an extraordinary young man who has experienced more success in his teenage years than most artists only hope to experience in a lifetime,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. “We are beyond thrilled that he continues to use his voice and his platform as a way to help others. He is a role model for so many and we are honored he has chosen to partner with our cause," he said. More details about the project and Billy’s involvement with the charity will be announced later in February. Individuals can visit www.giveshoes.org to hear the latest news on the project. www.cisionwire.com/soles4souls/r/youngest-solo-artist-grammy--nominee-billy-gilman-to-partner-with-shoe-charity-soles4souls--on-proje,c9218758 www.billygilman.com/

Anyone got back issues of Billboard from 1993-94? I'm working on a graph of Kenny Chesney's chart trajectories, and Google Books doesn't have any issues between September 1993 and January 1994 — meaning I'm missing the trajectory for Whatever It Takes.
Also, where was All I Need to Know on 12/9/95 (its last week on)?

Jennette McCudy's album is now available on Justice stores. This is one of the new tracks, the only on I could find online:
And this is a bonus track she's giving away on her website. Yes, it's the same song on Martina's album:

^ Her version of Broken Umbrella sounds so slow compared to Martina's. I don't like it.

I know she wasn't country but being that her biggest hit was a Dolly song, I am TERRIBLY saddened by the loss of Whitney Houston. I grew up listening to her music and it to this day still never gets old.
The Grammy's are sure going to have a different vibe to them tomorrow night, that's for sure.

During her prime, she really had one of the best voices in music. I was really surprised to hear that she died - she seemed to be really turning things around. A lot of country stars (Reba, Dolly, Sara Evans, Lady A, LeAnn Rimes, etc.) have been posting their condolences about this. Even though she didn't release a lot of music, I think her catalog holds up as one of the best of her generation.

I agree with everything you say.
And alot of country singers really looked up to her and wanted to be like her.
Although she never ventured into country, she sure paved the way for alot of female vocalists and I agree, had one of the best catalogs. As for her singles, I probably know most of them by heart. I just posted on my fb prob my fave song of hers and it's one from her last album called I Look to You.
But as I posted as a status in my fb....."R.I.P. Whitney, I Will Always Love You"

Jamie O'Neal has started a new label called Momentum records. Their first artist signed is Rachele Lynae who'll put her first single out in March, "Party 'Til The Cows Come Home". I'm hoping this means Jamie will also be putting out music soon, maybe her sister Minnie can also sign to the label as their father is also part of the label. Source: www.jamieoneal.com/
